This paper deals with the particulars of the Fushimi-castle that met with the rise and fall by the men then in power. And the writer devides this term into five parts by the use of new historical materials. That is; The Ist period ; The residence at Shigetsu for the retreat of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. The 2nd period; From the construction of the castle at Shigetsu by Hedeyoshi Toyotomi to the collapse by the earthquake. The 3rd period ; From the reconstruction of the castle at Mt. Kohata by Hideyoshi Toyotomi to the fall of the castle. The 4th period ; The construction of the castle at Mt. Kohata by Iyeyasu Tokugawa. The 5th period ; From the repair of the castle by Hidetada Tokugawa to the destruction of it by Iyemitsu Tokugawa.

Although architectural quantity survey techniques are always essential in order to plan and rationalize architectural construction activities, there are few historical analysis on the scientific universality of such techniques in Japan. The "Gushikenki" (written in the Edo Period) appears to be known as the only architectural reference book dealing with these techniques. Nevertheless, this book seems to be based on previous Japanese mathematics books that were already concerned with the matter. In this study we intend to examine the architectural quantity survey techniques contained such books, as a first stage for a future and move advanced study on the "Gushikenki" and its mathematical background.

On this part of the paper, the Jurakutei-Castle has been studied from the viewpoint of the history of Japanese architecture by the use of the Folding-Screen Picture of the Jurakutei-Castle and the Rakuchu-Ezu (A.D. 1637, the oldest measured map of Kyoto) that has been discovered recently. And the contents are the following : Chap. 1 A short history of the Jurakutei-Castle from the construction to the ruin; Chap. 2 The planning on the Jurakutei-Castle; Chap. 3 The buildings in the Jurakutei-Castle; that is, Tenshu-kaku (donjon), Hiroma (main hall), Ohte-mon (main gate), and Buke-yashiki (Samurai's residence). As the result of this study, on the one hand the Shoin-style had been completed in this Jurakutei-Castle, and on the other hand the planning of this Jurakutei-Castle built on flat land seems to have been the model of another castle-town. The Jurakutei-Castle was exactly the symbol of the age.

The aim of this paper is to study the characteristics of land use in Spanish cities. We firstly reconstructed city maps, the nanalyzed and compared with respect to the ratio of land use area. The results show the followings; i) land use patterns inhistorical area of Spanish cites are dominated by economic uses, ii) in Barcelona and Madrid, a special patten of land use are observed reflecting their political positions, iii) at the turn of the 20th century, central urban areas were mainly used for economic purpose in all cities.

There are two major styles in japanese pagoda field. One is storied-style pagoda such as five-storied pagoda and three-storied pagoda. The other style is hoto-rui(a variety of pagodas). There is little particular study about hoto-rui. In this paper, we analyzed hoto-rui, which have a number of different types, in Japanese traditional architectural reference books. Its practical examples are not popular, but we also indicate some of those pagodas in existence. We, in conclusion, can classify such pagodas into 13 types.

In this paper, we analyzed various proportions and systematic dimensions of tahoto pagodas in Japanese traditional architectural reference books, to know the content of its design system. The analysis indicates some tendencies of those values, and we show a standard diagram of systematic dimensions. Some of these findings also apply to those pagodas in existence. We can consider, through the edo period, the essence of designing system of tahoto pagoda was getting sophisticated and common.

Design about the eaves is a very important factor to construct exterior on Japanese traditional architecture. In the Edo and Meiji era, many Japanese architectural books were written. But eaves camber design method was not written until Banshouke Kayaoisori Mitugousinri which was written by Tousai Kiko in 1864. After that, 12 books were written. We universalize these methods by functional equations, and attempt to make practicable by CAD. We examine the rate of application for architectural monuments by computer analyzing, and propose Formula of Eaves Camber for CAD as best formula.

The architectural reference book "Gusikenki" is considered as the first encyclopedia for the architecture in Edo era. We examined the contents and bibliography of this book, and clarified the fact that the editor, Masataka Imaoku, then the Nakai's "Touryou" carpenter, wrote and compiled "Gusikenki" in the following four stages. 1st stage ; 1671 : Began the writings concerning the knowledges related to the nearby architecture as a Horyuuji carpenter. 2nd stage ; 1677 : Performed the writings about the architecture in the area controlled by the Nakai Family and about the buildings of temples and shrines. 3rd stage ; 1680/1684 : Wrote articles on the Kyoto Imperial Palace and accounts on matters such as divinity, mathimatics, weight and measures, and completed the whole volumes. 4th stage ; 1685/1686 : Added few items related mainly to time measurement.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the system of stone wall planning of Castles in Korea. This study is based on the methods of analysis from the Hwasung-Sungyuk-Eukwe (HSE). The HSE is the document of the construction of the Hwa castle (Suwon Castle), which was built in 1796, the second half of the chosun Dynasty (1392-1910) in Korea. The HSE offers many facts about the building system of the Chosun Dynasty, stone wall construction system; the supply system of the building materials, the building expenses and the organization of the workers. This is the first step for studying the system of Oriental Castle planning.
