The efficacy of stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) has been well established for postoperative residual and recurrent nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs). However, the risk of visual impairment due to SRT for lesions adjacent to the optic pathways remains a topic of debate. Herein, we evaluated the long-term clinical outcomes of hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (HFSRT) for perioptic NFPAs. From December 2002 to November 2015, 32 patients (18 males and 14 females; median age 63 years; range, 36–83 years) with residual or recurrent NFPAs abutting or displacing the optic nerve and/or chiasm (ONC) were treated with HFSRT. The median marginal dose was 31.3 Gy (range, 17.2–39.6) in 8 fractions (range, 6–15). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and visual and hormonal examinations were performed before and after HFSRT. The median follow-up period was 99.5 months (range, 9–191). According to MRI findings at the last follow-up, the tumor size had decreased in 28 (88%) of 32 patients, was unchanged in 3 (9%), and had increased in 1 (3%). The successful tumor size control rate was 97%. Visual functions remained unchanged in 19 (60%) out of 32 patients, improved in 11 (34%), and deteriorated in 2 (6%). Two patients had deteriorated visual functions; no complications occurred because of the HFSRT. One patient developed hypopituitarism that required hormone replacement therapy. The result of this long-term follow-up study suggests that HFSRT is safe and effective for the treatment of NFPAs occurring adjacent to the ONC.

The effect of ozone exposure (concentration : 0 and 0.3 ppm) during cultivation of Winter mushroom (Flammulina velutipes (Curt. : Fr) Sing.) was investigated on the weight and chemical composition (diameter of pileus, lenght of stipe, water, protein, lipid, carbohydrate and ash as major constituents : and thiamin, riboflavin and ascorbic acid as vitamins) on dry matter basis of fruit body i. e., pileus, stipe and the whole. As to 0 day after the ozone exposure treatment, increase was observed on water, protein, ash, thiamin, riboflavin and ascorbic acid in the whole bodies. On the other hand, as to 5 days after the ozone exposure treatment, an increase was observed on diameter, content of lipid and carbohydrate in pileus, on the length, content of carbohydrate, thiamin and ascorbic acid in stipe, and on the content of protein, carbohydrate, thiamin and ascorbic acid in the whole.

研究の目的は、インタラクションデザインに関するこれまでの学術的な交流や研究の基盤に立ち、日本における新しい教育領域・教育方法としてのインタラクションデザインの可能性もしくは問題点などを、実際の教育現場において確認し、導入のための基礎を構築することにある。本研究の中心となったのは、2012年12月17~21日に開催したスプツニ子!客員教授によるインタラクションデザインワークショップである。これは「Body Futures」をテーマとした、未来における身体の在り方を考えるワークショップであり、公開講評会をKIITOで行ない、提案された各グループのプロジェクトは2013年2月22~28日の期間、同じくKIITOにおいて開催された「Body Futures展」において展示された。このワークショップでは、大学院と学部の連携、大学と企業(アシックス)との連携が試みられた。異なる年齢層の参加者間の連携と、異なる組織領域間の連携が新たな発想を生み出し、「未来の身体」を様々な観点からとらえた科学的な提案が行なわれた。The objective of this study is to identify possibilities and problems related to interaction design within actual educational practice, and thus to construct a foundation for its introducation as a new field and methodology of study in Japan. The main part of this study derives from an interaction design workshop conducted 17-21 December 2012 by Visiting Professor Sputniko! (Hiromi Ozaki) entitled "Body Futures" that proposed to consider further dimensions of physicality. An open forum was subsequently held at KIITO and group projects developed from the workshop were exhibited 22-28 February 2013 under the same Body Futures title, again at KIITO. This workshop attempted to create linkages between the graduate school and university departments, as well as between the university and commercial enterprise (ASICS). It spawned connections between participants of different ages, fostered new thinking across diverse organisational sectors, and proposed various scientific ideas about the future of the body.

A rapid multiplex real-time PCR assay was developed to achieve highly specific, simultaneous detection of two kinds of mushrooms, Omphalotus guepiniformis and Lentinula edodes. Primers and TaqMan minor groove binder probes were designed according to the internal transcribed spacers 1-5.8S region of rDNA and evaluated by the specificity for fruiting bodies of 17 O. guepiniformis, 16 L. edodes and samples from 57 other species. DNA extracts of all the target species had positive signals with no cross-reaction, the limit of detection being 0.00025 ng of DNA. Threshold cycle (Ct) values for raw and processed fruiting bodies and for fruiting bodies (1% (w/w)) mixed with foodstuffs or artificial gastric juice contents ranged from 17.16 to 26.60 for both examined species. This new assay proved specific to the target species, highly sensitive, and applicable to processed food samples and gastric juice contents, making it useful for rapidly identifying O. guepiniformis and L. edodes.

The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between different types of organoboron compounds and various organic halides or triflates in the presence of base provides a powerful and general methodology for the formation of carbon–carbon bonds. The Csp2–B compounds (such as aryl- and 1-alkenylboron derivatives) and Csp3–B compounds (alkylboron compounds) readily cross-couple with organic electrophiles to give coupled products selectively in high yields. Recently, the Csp–B compounds (1-alkynylboron derivatives) have been also observed to react with organic electrophiles to produce expected cross-coupled products. The overview of some of such coupling reactions is discussed here in this article.
