[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Kinesio taping on the joint position sense of the ankle. [Subjects and Methods] The subjects of this study were 26 nomal adults who had experienced ankle sprain. Kinesio taping was applied over the ankle medial ligament and ankle lateral ligament with eight pattern reinforcement taping. Joint position sense was measured using isokinetic equipment (Biodex System 4 pro dynamometer, Biodex Medical systems Inc., USA) during dorsiflexion/plantarflexion and inversion/eversion, before and after taping. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 21.0 for Windows. [Results] Joint position sense after Kinesio taping was improved in the dorsiflexion and inversion positions. [Conclusion] According to the results of this study, Kinesio taping of the ankle is effective for the prevention of ankle sprain.

Human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants. The lack of proper prophylactics and therapeutics for controlling hRSV infection has been of great concern worldwide. Xylitol is a well-known sugar substitute and its effect against bacteria in the oral cavity is well known. However, little is known of its effect on viral infections. In this study, the effect of dietary xylitol on hRSV infection was investigated in a mouse model for the first time. Mice received xylitol for 14 d prior to virus challenge and for a further 3 d post challenge. Significantly larger reductions in lung virus titers were observed in the mice receiving xylitol than in the controls receiving phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). In addition, fewer CD3+ and CD3+CD8+ lymphocytes, whose numbers reflect inflammatory status, were recruited in the mice receiving xylitol. These results indicate that dietary xylitol can ameliorate hRSV infections and reduce inflammation-associated immune responses to hRSV infection.

The relationship between lower institutional case-volume and higher mortality after complex high-risk procedures has been shown. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of institutional volume on patient outcome after heart transplantation (HT) in the entire Korean population.We analyzed all adult HTs performed in Korea between 2007 and 2016 using data from the National Health Insurance Service. The association between case-volume and in-hospital mortality after HT was analyzed after categorizing hospitals performing HT into low-, medium-, or high-volume centers depending on the number of HTs performed. The effect of case-volume on long-term mortality was also assessed.A total of 833 adult HTs were performed in 17 centers. In-hospital mortality was 3.7% (13/356), 10.1% (38/375), and 18.6% (19/102) in high-, medium-, and low-volume centers, respectively. Medium-, and low-volume centers showed increased risk of in-hospital mortality (odds ratio [95% confidence interval]; 2.11 [1.42-3.13] and 3.68 [2.16-2.27], respectively.). Long-term survival of up to 10 years was worse in lower-volume centers compared to high-volume centers (P < 0.001).In conclusion, lower case-volume was associated with increased in-hospital mortality and long-term mortality after HT. A minimum case-volume mandate may be required for hospitals performing HT to ensure the best patient outcome and effective resource allocation.

1.現在、素粒子物理学の中で最も重要な課題の一つに電弱相互作用の自発的対称性の破れの起源という問題がある。標準模型においてはSU(2)×U(1)ゲ-ジ対称性の破れは、素のヒッグス場によって起こるとされているが、本当に正しいかどうかの実験的な確証は得られていない。ゲ-ジ対称性の破れを調べるための鍵として、W_LW_L散乱(W_Lは縦波のW)の研究が重要と考えられる。それは高エネルギ-(E≫m_W)においては、W_Lが等価定理によって南部ーコ-ルドスト-ン(NG)ボソンのようにふるまうからである。標準模型においてはヒッグスの自己結合定数はヒッグス質量の2乗に比例するのでヒッグス粒子が1TeV以下に存在しなければ摂動論は適用できない。猪木は日笠(KEK)と協力して、W_LW_L散乱の分部波振巾を、ヒッグス粒子ドミナンスと破れたカイラル対称性に基づく低エネルギ-定理という一般的要請をつかって、ユニタリティ-を満たすように決定した。すなわち、W_LW_L散乱においてtー、uーチャネルにヒッグス粒子を交換することによってsーチャネルに同じ量子数をもったヒッグス粒子があらわれるという要請をおき、低エネルギ-定理をつかって、I=J=0振巾をヒッグス粒子の自己結合定数λのみであらわすことができた。そしてλ→小のときは標準模型に一致し、λ→大になると標準模型からのずれが大きくなることが分かった。このような理論的予測をLHC/SSC、更にはJLC等の加速器で調べることにより、標準模型をこえた理論をさぐるための突破口としたい。2.LEPの実験結果は、超対称性を持った理論が統一理論の候補として有望であることを示唆しているが、これまでの超対称理論の予言は、摂動の最低次の計算に基づいていた。Zwirner等は近似を進めて中性Higgs粒子の質量および混合角を1ーloopでのふく射補正まで計算し、LEP IおよびLEP IIでのHiggs粒子生成の可能性を分析した。3.Wittenは昨年度、2次元のブラックホ-ルのモデルが可解な共形場の理論の一種で記述される事を示した。こうして得られる2次元のブラックホ-ルは、中心にある特異点においても理論は整合的で破綻せず、特異点と事象の地平線を入れかえるduality変換をもつ、という特有の性質をもっている。2次元ブラックホ-ルを記述するゲ-ジ化されたWessーZuminoーWitten模型は、特異点付近で平坦なU(1)ゲ-ジ場を記述する位相的場の理論に近づく。江口はこの事情をより詳しくみるためにWessーZuminoーWitten模型を超対称化し、これを更にtwistして位相的場の理論を作りその性質を調べた。位相的場の理論はBRS不変性をもつために、経路積分がBRS変換の固定点からの寄与で支配される。ブラックホ-ルのモデルでBRS変換の固定点は中心の特異点に一致する。従って時空の特異点が位相的場の理論で書き表される事がわかった。4.Wittenによって始められた位相的な場の理論は、多様体の位相的構造を調べるための新しい強力な手段であるにとどまらず、2次元量子重力理論が共形不変性を持った位相的な場の理論とみなしうるという発見にともない、物理理論としても非常に重要な性格をおびてきている。通常位相的共形不変理論は、風間・鈴木モデルを代表とするN=2超共形不変理論から江口・梁のtwistingによってえられる。風間は最近、位相的共形代数の一般的構造を調べることにより、今まで知られていなかった新しい位相共形代数を見いだし、位相共形代数の枠を広げた。さらにこの代数が隠れたN=1超共形対称性をもった理論のtwistingにより得られることも示した。5.川合は福間(東大)、中山(KEK)と協力して2次元の重力理論を連続極限として持つようなランダム面の理論を考え、その母関数が満たすべきSchwingerーDyson方程式を調べた。その結果、2次元量子重力や紐の理論の背後にはW_∞という大きな対称性が隠されており、その帰結として、SchwingerーDyson方程式がVirasoro代数やW代数の形式的真空条件として統一的に記述されることがわかった。
