Recently, many subsea pipelines have been developed in busy port areas, including industrial ports, recreational areas, fishing areas, and other port facilities. Under busy ship traffic conditions, these subsea pipelines are likely to be exposed to the risk of damage by a dragged anchor or other dropped objects. In this paper, a model is proposed to estimate the dragged anchor accident frequency on subsea pipelines based on the concept introduced by Fujii. The proposed model is approached by estimating the number of dragged anchor candidates on subsea pipelines, Na, based on an analysis of the anchor stopping distance in a critical subsea pipeline area. The causation probability Pc is estimated using a Bayesian network method that is modified from the model of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Hanninen. Various factors are considered to estimate Pc, including the human factor, weather factor,technical factor, and support factor. Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) data are combined to estimate the lateral probability distribution of the ship traffic around a subsea pipeline area. A case study of anchors dragging on the subsea pipeline in the Madura Strait of Indonesia is performed to demonstrate the implementation of the proposed model. The proposed model is validated by comparing the results for the estimated dragged anchor accident frequency on the subsea pipeline using the proposed model with the actual accidents recorded in the Madura Strait. The results of this validation analysis show that there is reasonable agreement.

In this study, two temperature-induced lipocalin genes SlTIL1 and SlTIL2, and a chloroplastic lipocalin gene SlCHL were isolated from ‘Micro-Tom’ tomato. The coding sequences of SlTIL1, SlTIL2 and SlCHL were 558, 558, and 1002 bp, respectively. By TargetP analysis, no characteristic transit peptides were predicted in the proteins of SlTIL1 and SlTIL2, while a chloroplastic transit peptide was predicted in the protein of SlCHL. The subcellular localization results indicated that SlTIL1 and SlTIL2 proteins were major localized in the plasma membrane, while SlCHL was localized in chloroplast. To understand the function of lipocalins, transgenic tomato over-expressed SlTIL1, SlTIL2 and SlCHL and their virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) plants were generated. The phenotypes were significantly affected when the SlTIL1, SlTIL2 and SlCHL were over-expressed or silenced by VIGS, which suggested that the three lipocalins played important roles in regulating the growth and development of tomato. In addition, the level of ROS (O2− and H2O2) was low in SlTIL1, SlTIL2 and SlCHL over-expressed plants, while it was high in their silenced plants. The changes in the expression of SODs were consistent with the accumulations of ROS, which indicated that lipocalins might have an important role in abiotic oxidative stress tolerance in tomato plants. Especially SlTIL1 and SlTIL2 are localized around their membranes and protect them from ROS. The results will contribute to elucidating the functions of lipocalin in plants, and provide new strategies to improve the tolerance to abiotic stress in tomato plants.

Gaetice depressus, a varunid crab common on intertidal boulder shores, is a potential key organism for monitoring organic matter flow through the food web. In order to elucidate its biogeochemical role, the diet source and trophic position of this crab on the boulder shore of an island off the Izu Peninsula, Japan, were estimated using three approaches: foregut content examination, stable isotope signature (δ13C and δ15N) and pigment biomarkers. The results suggest that G. depressus utilizes green macroalgae (Ulva sp., Ulvaria sp.) as its main diet source together with red macroalgae (Gloiopeltis complanata, Gl. furcata). This crab also utilizes periphytic and planktonic microautotrophs (occasionally tissues of heterotrophs) when macroalgae prove insufficient due to seasonal change. Therefore, G. depressus can be considered to be an omnivore since it consumes both autotrophs and heterotrophs, although it obtains organic matter mostly from autotrophs.

インドネシア・ジャワ島中央部にある、火山弧に直交する方向に直線的に並ぶ3つの火山、メラピ火山、メルバブ火山およびウンガラン火山において、地球物理学的、地球化学的、および地質学的調査を行い、活動年代、地下構造を解明するとともに、火山体内に発達する熱水系(熱と水の流れのシステム)をコンピュータを使って定量的に解明した。さらに、熱水系が十分発達しているウンガラン火山に関しては、地熱資源量評価を行い、地熱発電(電気出力 : 2~40MW)が可能な資源量が存在していることを明らかにした。
