We have developed and commercialized the still picture transmission system using serial interface for Consumer Use Digital VCR. According to this system. PC can receive compressed digital still picture (DV compressed), send control commands to a DVCR and communicate with daisy-chain-connected devices. In this paper, an outline of this system, the communication protocol and the hardware of this system in NV-DP1,NV-DL1 we have commercialized are reported.

This paper presents features of SmartMedia (SSFDC : Solid State Floppy Disk Card) for newly developed Digital Camera, DS-7. The media for Digital Camera are classified with PCMCIA cards, built-in memories, and various small cards. SmartMedia has the characteristic of small, thin, inexpensive and exchangeable for Digital Camera. The system configuration of DS-7,the physical format and the image file format (Exif) of SmartMedia are described.

The MPEG2 standard is expected to be the most promising method for encoding/coding motion pictures of the next-generation digital video discs (DVD). Recently we have developed a variable frame rate method for the DVD systems. In this method the compression efficiency of the information recorded into the discs is extremely improved by not only changing the encoding rate but also the frame rate at the same time. The scheme for realizing variable frame rate is that, when recorded, the data corresponding to appropriate flames of the moving pictures are deleted and, when reconstructed, the frames before the deleted frames are repeatedly read out.

Television transmission services, such as business TV, via communication satellites started in 1989. For these services, we have developped a scrambling system based on the system standerdized for broadcasting satellite. This new system is characterized by positive sync. and modified line permutation resulting in high security and high quality of descrambled signal for video and by range-bit conversion resulting in softer scrambling noise for audio.

前後に配置した実視標、およびHDTV偏光二眼式立体ディスプレイにより同位置に呈示された仮想視標を被験者に交互に注視させ、その時の奥行き方向も含めた3次元注視点を測定した結果、両者の奥行き方向の動きに関して違いが見られた。次に3Dおよび2Dの自然動画像を呈示し、被験者が特定の被写体を追跡した際の3次元注視点を測定した。その結果、注視点の奥行き方向の動きに関して、被写体と異なった動きが認められた。また3D、2Dの両者においても違いが見られた。

We have been studying computer graphics for television programs of sport for several years. And, we developed some systems of creating graphics for several sport programs. One is for displaying the names of racers on a race, one is for doing official time records connecting our system with official result systems, and so on. This time, we happily integrated these graphics systems, and developed new sub-systems. Computers in new sub-systems cooperated with each other, automatically measured necessary data and created graphics for television program of 45th FUKUOKA International Marathon.

ホログラフィック高分子分散液晶(HPDLC)を用いたフルカラー反射形ディスプレイについて報告する。HPDLCは、高分子樹脂中に液晶の微粒子を分散させて作製した、電界によりon/off可能なホログラムである。動作速度は1ms以下と動画表示に充分で、階調表現も可能である。さらに、偏光に依存せず積層が可能なので光の利用効率が高く、色純度も高いなど基本特性において優れている。今回我々は、任意の波長の素子の作製法を確立するとともに、TFT駆動により32×32画素のモノクローム表示パネルを作製し、HPDLCを用いた反射形フルカラーディスプレイが実現できることを明らかにした。

MPEG-2 Verification Tests were carried out for 5 different combinations of Profiles and Levels by several organizations in the world from January 1994 to December 1995. These verification tests were organized according to ITU-R Rec. BT.500 and BT.710 and DSCQS method was used. The assessment tests were carried out by each organization and the data were submitted to the MPEG Test Chairman. The outline of the results were reported at MPEG meetings. This paper describes the test procedure, test materials and the details of the tests results of MPEG-2 Verification Tests for SNRP@ML, SSP@H-14 and MP@HL(H-14).

1993年8月31目から9月3目までフランスのストラスブルグで開催されたユーロディスプレイ'93における発表の内、液晶プロジェククタに関する発表・招待講演1件,S11の7件,そしてPosterの5件を合わせて、13件の概略を紹介した。招待講演はフィリップスのストローマーがプロジェクターにおける光学系の光利用率の概念を導入、LCDはCRTと同等の画質を得る可能性を述べた。S11はヨーロッパ勢が多く光学系の改良が主で、ポスターはLCDパネル(ライトバルブ)の話しで纏められていた。

This paper proposes an adaptive equalization technique for OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) demodulation. This technique estimates a channel response with using pilot signals embedded in OFDM symbols. A two dimensional filter used for interpolating the response estimates the channel response accurately, and also improves the C/N by reducing noise bandwidth. The bit error rate performance of the system in various channels is calculated by computer simulation, and the relative C/N improvement to differential demodulation is about 2.5 dB. And the result shows that the optimum filter can be determined by the maximum path delay time and the maximum doppler frequency of the channel.

A 2/3-inch 760k pixel interline transfer CCD (IT-CCD) image sensor has been developed, which includes twice as many vertical pixel numbers as the conventional 380k pixel CCD image sensor within the same image format, and independent 8 vertical bus lines. These features enable the sensor to be applicable not only to NTSC system (525-line interlace mode), but also to vertical high resolution TV system (525-line progressive mode and 1049-line interlace mode). Furthermore, various application, such as dynamic range expansion mode and smear elimination mode, can be realized for its high driving flexibility.

Formerly we proposed a method for designing parallel gain/shape vector quantizers in the 8*8 DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) domain [12]. This paper proposes a method for magnifying the block of this quantizer. In this method, the block is magnified by symmetrizing the structure of the shape code book. By magnifying the block to 16*16,at a fixed coding rate signal-to-noise ratio is increased by about 1 (dB), and this coding scheme yields a perfomance advantage of 1〜2 (dB) over the DCT coding scheme with scalor, Max-type quantizers.

我々は, 人間が顔を見て男女を識別するときの, 無意識に行う男女識別の過程を解析するために, 中心視の動きを詳しくとらえる装置が必要であると考える.従来, このような研究はアイカメラを用いて行われてきた.しかし, アイカメラでは有効視野に制限がないため周辺視を除いた中心視のみの動きを捉えることは困難であり, アイカメラの複雑な初期設定や被験者にかかる負担等を除くため, 本研究では, 制限した視野領域をマウス操作で動かすシステムを試作した.このシステムを用いて顔画像の男女識別に関する実験を行った結果、被験者の注視点が顔画像に向かって左側に偏るという結果が得られた.また, 識別過程の前半期において, 注視点を左眼周辺, 右眼周辺, 鼻, 口という順で動かす規則性が見られた.
