研究ノート本稿は、米国における制度主義の創始者であるソースタイン・ヴェブレンの著書『平和の性質および永遠平和のための諸条件の探究』(1917)を取り上げる。第一次世界大戦中に書かれた本書は、戦争と平和に関する社会科学の著作として、第一級の重要性をもつものであろう。ヴェブレンの『有閑階級の理論』や『営利企業の理論』は、社会学や経済学の分野ですでに一定の高い評価を得ている。しかし、彼のこの平和論は、その現代的意義にも拘わらず、平和学においてさえ、それに相応しい扱いを受けているとは言い難いであろう。本稿でこれを取り上げる所以である。第二次世界大戦・冷戦を経て21 世紀の初頭に生きるわれわれに、本書は何を語りかけるだろうか。逆にわれわれ――とりわけ日本のわれわれ――は、そこに何を聴きうるだろうか。現代平和学の社会科学としての体系化を学問的課題とする筆者によるこれはそうした一つの実験的試みである。Among many books written by Thorstein Veblen, the founder of institutionalism in the USA, The Theory of Leisure Class and The Theory of Business Enterprise have been most conspicuously read and consequently wasted. But his book on peace, An Inquiry Into TheNature of Peace and The Terms of Its Perpetuation, has not very luckily (?) been paid due attention so far even among intellectuals involved in the discipline of peace studies at least in Japan. But it must be evaluated afresh and read seriously at this point of time confronting the possibility of the most disastrous war which, once accidently happened, could lead to the end of human history. In this paper, the author tries to make clear the implications of Veblen's theory of peace to the present world specifically focusing on the constitutional issue of Japan.

自由論文情報リテラシー教育の最近の動きを概観し、本校の必修科目「研究調査法」の評価を行う。検証の尺度として lnformation Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education を用いる。研究調査法は上記基準で求められている能力の基礎的部分の導入の役割は果たしているが、より高度な情報活用能力の育成には、全学的な情報リテラシー育成プログラムの開発が求められる。After reviewing the recent trend of information literacy education in Japan, this paper evaluates the Research Method course at OJJC by using Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. The course does introduce students to the basics of information literacy. Yet, in order to educate students to be information literate, it is necessary to incorporate information literacy across curricula and in all programs and services on campus.

研究ノートアウトプット仮説によれば、スピーキングあるいはライティングで首尾一貫して正確にしかも適切にメッセージを伝えようとすること(プッシュトアウトプット)により、学習者は言語をより深く認識し処理できるようになり、第2言語習得は促進すると考えられている (Swain,1985,1995)。本稿では、近年のタスクに関する研究に注目し、プッシュトアウトプットを促進する条件について、タスクの種類と構成要素に焦点を当て、その影響を言語習得の3要素である正確さ、流暢さ、そして複雑さ (Crookes,1989; Skehan,1996)の観点から論ずる。

自由論文自然とそれを覆う闇は、The Last of the Mohicans を構成する重要な要素であるだけでなく、作品のテーマを支える重要な意味をも与えられている。自然と闇は、それぞれ、善と悪を象徴的に示している。David Gamut は、Maguaを悪の化身と認識するけれども、自分だけは倫理的に正しいと思いこんでいる。このような David は、ダビデやイエス・キリストのごとく振る舞うのである。 Cooper は、イエス・キリストのように振る舞う David を悪と結び付けて描いている。 David は、偽キリストなのである。彼が偽キリストになってしまった原因は、古い生命力を失ったキリスト教信仰に固執しているためなのである。

自由論文自然とそれを覆う闇は、The Last of the Mohicans を構成する重要な要素であるだけでなく、作品のテーマを支える重要な意味も与えられている。自然と闇は、それぞれ、善と悪を象徴的に示している。悪の化身 Magua は、Munro に恐ろしい復讐をする。Natty Bumppo は、Munro の苦しみを理解するだけでなく彼を信仰へと導く。彼のおかげで Munro は、Cora が Uncas のメシヤとしての使命を果たすための死によって救いを得たことを知る。Munro と Natty Bumppo の間係は、物語の前半部と後半部で対比されている。前半部では Munro は砦の司令官で、Natty Bumppo は斥候として彼に仕えている。対照的に、後半部では Munro と Natty Bumppo の関係は対等な関係である。

研究ノートThis paper describes the process that we went through to produce a study abroad video, highlighting problems and challenges that we had to overcome. This project is especially interesting in that a part-time management staff member and a junior faculty member were given the responsibility to work independently with an outside production company to produce a promotion video. The production company did not have experience working in English. The staff member is a Japanese female; the faculty member is a native English speaking male. The production company staff were all Japanese males. Given these parameters the context was ripe for miscommunication-both interculturally, and inter-departmentally. The value of this paper is that it allows readers an opportunity to take a moment and think critically about collaborative work projects/processes. Too often in our busy schedules as we create new curriculums, as we try to incorporate new technologies, and/or attempt to develop new programs, we do not take the time to look at the process we go through.本稿では、海外留学用ビデオ制作において、著者らが直面した問題、および、解決策に焦点を当てながら、ビデオ制作のプロセスについてまとめる。このプロジェクトの興味深いところは、パートタイムの職員と、教員のなかでも教授や助教授でない専任講師の立場のスタッフが、外部の制作会社とともに、自らの判断でプロモーションビデオを制作する責任を与えられたところにある。この制作会社は、英語で仕事をした経験がなく、制作に関わったのは大阪女学院側は、マネージメントスタッフ:日本人でメンバー中唯一の女性、ティーチングスタッフ:英語を母国語とする男性、制作会社側スタッフは全員日本人の男性、というメンバーで構成されていた-この要素を見れば、いかに状況が、お互いの文化の違いや、部門間の違いから、大きなミスコミュニケーションを招くのに十分な理由を備えていたかが分かる。本稿は、プロジェクトにおける共同作業について、批判的な視点をもって評価する機会を読者に提供する、という点において意義がある。なぜなら、新しいカリキュラムを作ったり、最新技術を身につけたりすることにあまりに多忙であり、新しいプログラムを起動させることに翻弄されていて、自分達の仕事のプロセスを見直す時間がとれないことが、私達の日常にはあまりにも多いからである。

研究ノートThis article reviews two recent books: Koreans in Japan: Critical Voices from the Margin, edited by Sonia Ryang, (2000) and Lives of Young Koreans in Japan, written by Yasunori Fukuoka, (2000). These books will help interested readers to better comprehend the history, context, and current situation of resident Koreans in Japan. Resident Koreans must deal with many issues in their everyday lives, for example, deciding what name to use and when to use it; coping with bullying; overcoming discrimination when looking for a job or searching for an apartment; deciding upon a nationality; and/ or trying to find a spouse from the "right" city in the "right" prefecture in the right "country. Having a better understanding of these issues will help us when working with resident Koreans in our classes and should make us more sensitive educators.本稿は最近出版された2冊の本、ソニア・リャン編集の『周縁からの批判の声』と福岡安則著『若い在日韓国・朝鮮人の生活』を論評する。この2冊はこの問題に関心をもっている読者がさらに在日韓国・朝鮮人の歴史やその社会背景、そして現在の状況を理解する手がかりとなる本である。いつどの名前を名乗るか、いじめをどう克服するか、就職やアパート探しの際の差別をどう乗り越えるか、国籍の選択、いかにして正しい国の正しい県の正しい市から配偶者を選ぶか、在日韓国・朝鮮人は日々このような問題と対峙している。私たち教師がこうした諸問題をよりよく理解することは、在日韓国・朝鮮人の学生を教育する上で役立つ。またこのような問題について学ぶ事によって、私たちも細やかな心配りができる教育者となれる。

自由論文かつての結婚生活、家庭生活に絶望し、孤独と他者拒絶のうちに生活する祖母アビゲイルに孫ダイシーが真摯で率直な戦いを挑むことで、アビゲイルが自分自身をとらえなおす機会を得、傷つくことを恐れずに他者を愛することが可能になる過程を概観するなかから人が十全に生きるうえで不可欠な自己発見、自己実現につながる他者の眼差しの意味を問う。By analyzing the process of Abigail's regaining her selfconfidence through the relationships with her granddaughter Dicey, this paper discusses the importance of sincere interest in a person.

実践報告批判的思考指導をクリシン指導と「批判」指導に二分して、前者の終了した次の授業で、ある主題を実験参加者に与え、論証文を書かせた。これをプリテストとした。さらに、最終週で別の主題を与え、論証文を書かせた。これをポストテストとした。クリシン指導とプリテストのあとに実施した「批判」指導の効果を検証するために、論証文作成力・論証力・パラグラフ構成力・言語使用力の4 項目を分析した。実験参加者を、上位群・中位群・下位群に分類し、どのグループに、どの項目で効果があったかを従属標本のt検定で分析した。その結果、上位群と中位群で、論証文作成力と論証力で有意差があった。"Critical Thinking" Teaching was divided into two categories: basic teaching for critical thinking and refutation teaching. Just after the former teaching was over, the pre-test was administered. It was to write an argumentative essay on a theme. At the final lesson, the posttest was administered. Students were instructed to write another essay on another theme. Refutation teaching was carried out between the pre and post tests. The subjects were divided into three groups: advanced, intermediate and less-advanced. They were examined in the pre and post tests for the four skills: argumentative writing, argumentation, paragraph-making and language use. It was confirmed that the significant differences were found between pre and post tests of the advanced and intermediate groups, in the skills of argumentative writing andargumentation.

研究ノート本稿は、作家・広津和郎が戦後、その文学的営為から一見かけ離れた「松川裁判」批判をなぜ行なったかについて、彼の文学作品の内在的検討を通じて明らかにしようとする。広津の「松川裁判」批判は、不当な死刑・重刑を正当化する権力の言説に対する批判であったから、まさに平和学で言うところの「文化的暴力」批判の一つの歴史的事例である。広津は小説家であり、作家としての彼がなぜこうした裁判批判を行なったかは、それ自体に興味があるだけではなく、現代の諸問題―とりわけ「責任」概念をめぐるそれ―に多くの示唆を与えているであろう。In this article, the author tries to make clear why Kazuo Hirotsu, a Japanese novelist, made a continuous effort after the Second World War to criticize the "Matsukawa Trial", an effort apparently quite apart from his literary activities, through investigating his literary works. His criticism of the "Matsukawa Trial" was a historical example of that of discourse of power, a kind of so-called cultural violence in terminology of modern peace studies, justifying unjust death penalty and severe punishment. This problem is not only interesting in itself but gives us many implications to the problems of today, especially to that of responsibility.
