To display 3D images on a computer-generated hologram, you need to have a very high resolution hologram-recording system. We developed a CD-R. (Compact Disk-Recordable) drive to record CGH data on CD-R disks, that have a high resolution and a dot size of 1.5μm. By using this drive, it is possible to make holograms inexpensively in a short-time without the need for special environments, such as dark rooms, clean rooms, etc. The drive realizes desktop holograrning that can handle all CGH process including model making, hologram calculations, and hologram recordings on a personal computer. In this paper, we describe the system and discuss the hologram-calculation method adapted for CD-R disks.

An SD (semantic differential) method is an effective way to evaluate subjective impression of an AV (audio visual) content. However, because the SD method is performed after viewers watch an AV content, it is difficult to examine their impression of detailed scenes in the AV content in real time. To measure viewer's impression of an AV content in real time, we have developed a "Taikan sensor" that precisely measures the viewer's grip strength and body temperature. Based the Taikan sensor measurement, we investigated the relationships between the viewers' impression and their grip strength. Factor analysis of the viewers' impression was performed on detailed scenes when the grip strength became strong. Results showed that the viewers' impression influenced their grip strength and the viewer received an "active" impression from the AV content when the grip strength increased. Therefore, the Taikan sensor enables real time measurement of a viewer's "active" impression from an AV content.

An OFDM signal is easily is degraded by amplifier nonlinearity. A method for measuring such nonlinearity has been developed and tested in two ways: vector measurement using the two-tone method and comparison between a sinc-shaped input signal and the output signal. Four amplifier characteristics were measured with the methods and represented as AM-AM/AM-PM conversion characteristics. Using these results, computer simulation was run to determine the effect of nonlinearity. OFDM signals were generated and the CN ratios were measured. The results agreed with those of the experiments. Testing of the predistortion in the amplifier with most remarkable AM-PM characteristic confirmed the simulated predistortion.
