ユングストローム、タービンはラヂアルフロー、ダブルロテーションの理想を實現したるが爲めに、蒸汽消費量の減少、重量並に据付場所の輕減等に於て、卓越せる特徴を有して居る。是等は優秀なる設計に依る事は勿論なれ共、尚理想的の構造を實現するが爲めに從來の工作法にのみ拘泥せずして、斬新なる工作法を適用せし事に起因するのである。即ち其インナーパートにエキスバンシヨンリング、ラゼリンスデイスク、シヤフトバツキング及コンバンドデイスク等を採用し、ブレードの組立に鎔接を用ひ又各リングの固定法としてローリングを應用したる事は、全く本タービンを成功せしめたる所以なるを以て、其大略を述べ、尚本タービンは一見甚だ繊弱に見ゆるが爲めに、取級上不安なるが如く思惟せらるゝ向きあるも、最も進歩せる工作法によりて理論的に製作すれば、夫は全く杞憂に過ぎぬと云ふ事を記述したのである。

An NRD guide pulse radar front-end was fabricated for level sensor applications at 60 GHz. Main emphasis was placed on circuit configuration. Typically, an oscillation power is divided by a junction circuit and is introduced into two parts. One is for transmitting wave, and the other is for LO wave to perform hetero-dyne detection. The frequency of the former is up-converted so as to be different from the frequency of the LO wave, and thus, a power amplifier is installed in the transmitting side due to low output power of the up-converted millimeter-wave. In this paper, we proposed a new circuit configuration, which consists of a Gunn oscillator with two output ports to eliminate a junction circuit, a direct pulse-modulator to obtain a high level transmitting power without an expensive millimeter-wave power amplifier, and a filter-based down-converter with an up-converter as a local oscillator.<br>Range finding was performed by using the NRD guide pulse radar, however multi-reflection occurred between a target and a planar antenna due to a pencil beam radiation of our developing planar antenna, so that precise distance estimation could not be performed for short range detection. With this in mind, an FPGA-based signal processor was developed in order to eliminate such multi-reflection. The sequential sampling method was employed to reduce experimental errors, which were investigated in terms of difference of periods between a modulated pulse train and a sequential sampling clock. The error of range finding was successfully reduced to be less than 2 % for the distance range from 2 m to 10 m under multi-reflection environment.

The self-commutated Static Var Compensator (STATCOM) is expected as one of the most effective tools to enhance power system stability and has been applied world-widely in recent years. Since the first prototype of STATCOM was developed in Japan in 1980, continual efforts by utilities and manufactures drove the development forward to the practical application of STATCOM, resulting in the world-first application of 80MVA STATCOM using GTO thyristors in 1991, followed by the 80MVA STATCOM using GCT thyristors in 2003. Since then, the application of STATCOM has been extended to not only power utility systems but also industrial systems. This paper describes historical development events and engineer's efforts to develop the STATCOM, including some episodes.

To analyze multi faults on a power line, we need to perform many complexed calculations. So, in many cases, we used to do them, using computers, in the actual phase domain. But it is difficult to expose the property and/or the physical meaning of the calculated results, because the computer method is based on many complexed numerical calculations.<br>This paper represents a new analytical method for short circuit studies, which can deal with crosscountry multi fault in double-circuit transmission line with zero-sequence mutual coupling. This method is based on the well known &ldquo;two-component network theory&rdquo; for a balanced three phase double-circuit. Procedure steps are; (1) Represent the network seen from the faulted points, with symmetrical component impedance. (2) Construct the symmetrical equivalent circuits for faults, with imaginary phase shifting transformers. (3) Combine these equivalents with each other, and erase the symmetrical voltages at faulted points, because the phase voltages at faulted points are known. (4) Calculate the currents at the faulted points, by solving the simultaneous linear equations.<br>We applied this method to an investigation of a distance relay's &ldquo; underreach&rdquo; phenomena in case of cross-country multi fault occured on a double-circuit transmission line. Effects of line constants to this phenomena have been well understood.

To investigate the mechanism of the polarization fatigue of ferroelectric thin films, we analyzed the relationship between the crystalline defects of electrode/ferroelectric interface and fatigue characteristics of PZT thin films. Pt/PZT/Pt thin films were prepared by the chemical solution deposition method, and conditions of Pt/PZT interface were analyzed by TEM-EDX analysis, thermally stimulated current methods and I-V Properties. The PZT layers of about 30nm near the top Pt electrodes became an n-type due to the oxygen vacancies and they formed the contact similar to the top electrode of Pt/n-type PZT/p-type PZT. Because the height and width of the Schottky barrier in the Pt/PZT interface had reduced with the increase of the fatigue, this band structure was observed in the electric field where the Fowler-Nordheim currents were lower than usual. This is considered to be caused by the increase of crystalline defects near the interface due to the impressing of the bipolar pulse. This phenomenon was observed quantitatively by TSC analysis, and the TSC peak of 490K became larger with the increase of the fatigue. The activation energy of the TSC peak was 0.8ev and the defect density was 2.5×1019/cm3, which is consider to be produced by Pb defects.

This paper presents a control scheme for smooth torque production in permanent-magnet synchronous motor drives. The proposed control scheme consists of two techniques: a feedforward compensation for torque ripple minimization and an online parameter estimation technique for harmonic fluxes. The feedforward compensation is constructed on a position-sensorless vector control system and generates voltage commands to suppress torque ripples. The command calculation process requires the parameters of the harmonic fluxes; therefore, the proposed control scheme includes their estimator and calculates them from detected current information. These techniques are simpler than existing ones and can be implemented on a computational device with a small amount of calculation load. The proposed control scheme is verified by performing simulations and experiments.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are widely used as an automotive motor, and there has been a demand for their further technological advance. A harmonic current control method has been used as a controllable approach for realizing its low vibration of PMSMs. In addition, a dual inverter system has attracted attention as an automotive motor system considering its fault tolerant function. In this study, an open-winding structure PMSM driven by dual three-phase inverters, which share a DC bus source, is used for the proposed third harmonic current control. By using third harmonic current control, it is possible to reduce both the sixth order torque ripple component and the second order radial force. The performance of the third harmonic current control of the open-winding PMSM is verified through FEA and experimental results.
