New small-scale dispersed generation systems, such as fuel cells and micro gas-turbines have made remarkable advances lately and they will be applied practically in the near future. Although a large number of researches on the introduction of small-scale dispersed generation systems have been carried out, only a small number of small-scale dispersed generation systems are considered in these researches. Therefore, little is known about problems to be solved in case where a large number of small-scale dispersed generation systems are introduced into electric power systems. This paper deals with a super distributed energy system that consists of a great number of dispersed generation systems such as fuel cells, micro gas turbines and so on. The behavior of a customer with a dispersed generation system is simulated as the Ising model in statistical mechanics. The necessity of a distribution network in super distributed energy systems is discussed based on the Ising model. The feasibility of decentralized autonomous control using vicinity information is also investigated on the basis of stability analysis of the Hopfield neural network model.

Trials on transmission of olfactory information together with audio/visual information are currently being conducted in the field of multimedia. However, continuous emission of scents in high concentration creates problems of human adaptation and remnant odors in air.To overcome such problems we developed an olfactory display in conjunction with Canon Inc. This display has high emission control in the ink-jet so that it can provide stable pulse emission of scents. Humans catch a scent when they breathe in and inhale smell molecules in air. Therefore, it is important that the timing of scent presentation is synchronized with human breathing. We also developed a breath sensor which detects human inspiration.In this study, we combined the olfactory display with the breath sensor to make a pulse ejection presentation system synchronized the breath. The experimental evaluation showed that the system had more than 90 percent of detection rate. Another evaluation was held at KEIO TECHNO-MALL 2007. From questionnaire results of the participants, we found that the system made the user feel continuous sense of smell avoiding adaptation. It is expected that our system enables olfactory information to be synchronized with audio/visual information in arbitrary duration at any time.

This paper presents a support system for motion training for dances, sports, gestures, etc. In our previous study, we developed a prototype system for supporting motion training using motion caputure, i.e., marker tracking using a DV camera. The prototype system scores a user's motion by comparing tracking data of the user and a model with DP matching. The prototype system has a limit that it cannot accurately obtain acceleration of each part of the body because marker tracking using a DV camera cannot obtain three dimensional motion. By this limit, two different motions sometimes cannot be distinguished. For more effective motion training, in this study, we propose a system combining motion capture and acceleration sensors. We have examined the effectiveness of using acceleration sensors in motion training by comparing the proposed system with the prototype system. Experimental results have shown that two different motions can be more clearly distinguished by using the acceleration sensors.

A severe fault may cause loss of synchronism of a small number of generators. And it may make many generators out of service resulting in wide area blackout. When two groups of generators lose synchronism, the magnitudes of voltage on some lines becomes zero. Therefore an approach that lines with zero voltage are opened has been employed actually in order to prevent loss of synchronism from extension. This paper presents a new method using voltage and current measured on a line during disturbance to detect the line with zero voltage at the instant when loss of synchronism takes place. A method to detect loss of synchronism using voltage and current measured on a line was already proposed. This paper presents results of the tests performed by using power system simulator which is composed of a DC-motor, a synchronous generator, artificial transmission line, circuit breaker equipments and so on. The validity of proposed methods was verified by finding loss of synchronism correctly.

Oxygen-free copper electrodes stored in the atmosphere were used as test samples. Changes of field emission characteristics with 500 repetitive breakdowns and He ion beam sputtering were investigated in conjunction with analyses of electrode surface conditions by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Experiments revealed that field emission currents were detected from electrodes used as the anode after 500 breakdowns, while for electrodes that were heavily contaminated and the cathode after 500 breakdowns field emission currents were not detected. Although anode and cathode surfaces were cleaned by 500 breakdowns, the cathode surfaces were more completely cleaned than the anode surfaces during repetitive 500 breakdowns. Residual carbon may play a role to dominate field emission characteristics and breakdown characteristics.

A modification method of finite element meshes based on the adaptive meshing for optimization of electric machines is proposed. In the optimization process of the machine, the proposed method generates the mesh for the new shape from the previous mesh with minor modification. The locations of the nodes for the new shape are decided by solving the Laplace's equation, whose unknowns are displacements of the nodes. The advantages are clarified by the application to the shape optimization of an IPM motor.

As well known, human sensing is useful for our life. But, the development of the human sensing system is not easy, because the shape and the movement of human are complicated and Indistinct; the environment of obtaining image is not always constant and so on. We have developed some methods of identifying individuals using facial image, counting passing people, observing of human behave and so on. In this paper, human sensing and its applications are introduced. In addition, examples of application are shown.

Moving object detection with a mobile image sensor is an important task in robotics and computer vision, when considering the practical use of robots in human environments. In this paper, we propose a robust method that detects moving objects in the environment using the omni-directional depth information obtained by a mobile Stereo Omni-directional System (SOS). In order to detect only the moving objects within the depth image that are obtained by a sensor in motion, we first estimate the ego-motion of the sensor, and generate a predicted depth image for the current time from the depth obtained at the previous time by only considering the ego-motion of the sensor. Then the predicted depth image is compared with the actual one obtained at the current time, and the inconsistent regions are detected as moving objects. When the senor moves, occlusions will occur in the scene and they will cause false detections. However, these false detections can be suppressed by estimating the occlusion regions using the ego-motion parameters of the sensor and the jump edges in the depth image. The effectiveness of the method is shown with the experiment results on a real environment.

For communication of ALS patients, the authors put emphasis on ERP. This paper described that ALS patient could get high rate of correct judgment on the target word-specific experiment by detecting ERP. For practical use, it is very important that ALS patients can communicate with surrounding person smoothly. The authors discussed how to shorten the time to specify the target word, and discussed the prevention of misjudgment.

Today, many goods are developed using the mental effect by the color. As a typical example, bath salts can be mentioned. In this study, the SD technique was used to quantitatively determine about how the color of solution influence the mental effect by 15 subjects. The results showed that effects by the red shades such as “warmth", and by the blue and purple shades such as “composedness", were high. Also, it clarified about the influence by the white muddiness.

Impact of the ubiquitous information technology on our society is so significant that directing technological development and preparing institutional apparatus are quite important and urgent. The present paper elaborates, with the efforts by both humanity and engineering disciplines, to find out the socio-technical issues of ubiquitous information society in 2010 by inspecting social implications of emerging technology as well as social expectations. In order to deliberate the issues, scenarios are developed that describes possible life in ubiquitous information society. The derived issues cover integrating information technology and human body, producing smart sharable environment, protecting individual rights, fostering new service business, and forming community.

The objective of this paper is to give overviews of text mining or textual data mining in Japan from the practical aspects. Text mining is the technology utilized for analyzing large volumes of textual data applying various parameters for purpose of withdrawing useful knowledge and information. The essence of “Mining” is "the discovery of knowledge or information." And target of text mining is to objectively discover and extract knowledge, facts, and meaningful relationships from the text documents. This paper summarizes the related disciplines and application fields which are applied in text mining, and introduces features and application examples of text mining tools.

Semiconductor magnetodiode with very small size, which has similar operation-principle to the SMD (Sony magnetodiode), has been fabricated on a thin Si film of SOI substrate and its fundamental characteristics are evaluated. This magnetodiode is able to fabricate together with ICs such as amplifier, driving circuits, compensation circuits, etc. using the update semiconductor IC technologies on a Si chip. Double injection in this magnetodiode is confirmed, and the magnetic sensitivity of ΔI/I0∼=10% at H=1kOe is obtained in this double injection regime even under non-optimized conditions.
