The early intake of alcohol and/or nicotine in childhood or adolescence is one of risk factors for alcohol and/or nicotine dependence in adult. Recently, non-alcoholic beverages with less than 0.00% alcohol are on sale for adults as substitutes for alcoholic beverages without strict legal limitations. However, it is unclear whether non-alcoholic beverages could be a risk factor in drinking and smoking in childhood or adolescence. The purpose of the present survey is to clarify the effect of non-alcoholic beverage intake in children on alcoholic beverage drinking and smoking. We examined as follows: the experience of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage intake, and of smoking in elementary school pupils and/or their family members, and interest in or motivation for drinking and smoking in the pupils. As a result, the percentage of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage intake, and of smoking in the pupils were 16.8% or 21.9%, and 0.3%, respectively. The number of family members took the alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage was larger in the pupils took it compared to the pupils did not take it. In the pupils who experienced the non-alcoholic beverage intake, interest in or motivation for drinking alcoholic beverages and/or smoking is higher than in those who did not. These findings indicate that non-alcoholic beverage intake is related to drinking and smoking. We will introduce drug abuse prevention education on the risk of drug dependence among childhood or adolescents based on the findings of this survey.

Falls and fall-related injuries among inpatients are one of the most important concerns in medical safety management and sometimes cause a significant decrease in activities of daily living (ADL). It has been suggested that the adverse reactions of psychotropic drugs related to their sedative-hypnotic, cognitive deficit producing and muscle reaction-related effects are closely associated with falls.In this study, we examined a relationship between the risk of falls and psychotropic drugs based on prescriptions in fall incident reports at Nagoya University Hospital in a 12-month period beginning in April 1, 2005. In July 2006, we conducted an educational intervention involving instructing health care staff on the optimal use of psychotropics. After doing this, we examined prescriptions in fall incident reports over a 12-month period beginning in April 1, 2006. The results showed a decrease in fall incidence due to long-acting drugs in 2006 as compared with 2005 and this indicated that, among psychotropics, sedativehypnotic-anxiolytics were one of the highest risk factors for falls. These results suggest that an educational intervention can be an effective means of reducing the number of falls and fall-related injuries among inpatients.

統合失調症,うつ病や双極性障害を代表とする精神疾患の診断や薬効・副作用評価は,客観的な指標が確立していないため,医療面接により精神症状の種類や程度,臨床経過を把握することで症候学的に判断される.適切な精神科薬物療法を実施する上で,向精神薬の薬理学的特性に精通することに加え,近年ではバイタルサインや医療データ,フィジカルアセスメントによる全身状態の把握も重要視されるようになってきた.本稿では,精神疾患の薬物療法におけるバイタルサインや医療データ,フィジカルアセスメントの有用性について概説する.

We investigated the educational effects of fourth-year pharmacy studentsʼ participation in the case presentation performed by senior students during clinical practice. Two hundred eight fourth-year students participated in the case presentation using Meijo Distance Education System (MDES), and a total number of 509 fourth-year students was administered questionnaires. Of the total number of students, 93.7% answered “watching the case presentation was useful,” 91.2% answered “question-and-answer was useful,” 86.6% answered “I gained useful knowledge,” and 79.7% answered “I was satisfied with the content.” Joining the case presentation is an opportunity for fourth-year students to think about how to apply basic knowledge and appropriate interventions for individual patients. It is useful for junior students to consider senior students as role models to gain further understanding of clinical practice and to improve their motivation to study.

本研究では、幼児・学童期において問題視されている心理社会的ストレスを想定し、幼若期マウスに社会的敗北ストレスを負荷し、社会性行動について評価した。幼若期マウスは心理社会的ストレスに対して、成体期マウスに比べて脆弱であり、成体期まで持続する社会的行動障害を示した。社会的行動障害モデル動物としての評価系を確立できた。この動物の社会性行動障害には、グルココルチコイド受容体の活性化、モノアミン作動性神経系およびグルタミン酸作動性神経系の遺伝子発現変化に伴って、これら神経系の機能異常が関与していることが示唆された。

In February 2005,Meijo and Nagoya Universities concluded an agreement with Nagoya University Hospital under which a resident faculty is stationed at the hospital.Nine graduate students are assigned to the resident faculty under whose guidance they engage in a variety of activities which include inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical services under pharmacists and clinical research in collaboration with doctors at Nagoya University Hospital.In addition,our universities conduct practical training for fourth-year students for four-week periods each year from May to July.In 2007,a total of 41 students participated in the practical training at Nagoya University Hospital.Under the guidance of the resident faculty,graduate students instructed the students in activities conducted in hospital wards and the outpatient asthma clinic (we call this“age-mixing”).After the four-week training programs,a questionnaire survey was conducted to determine the participants’views concerning the training schedule,content of the training and the“Age-mixing Method”.The trainees had a favorable impression of the training with many selecting the responses“Our training went very well thanks to the support of the resident faculty”,“We learned a lot form graduate students”,“The Age-mixing Method is very useful for trainees”and“We realized that‘teaching is learning’”.The introduction of the Age-mixing Method not only allowed trainees to learn from graduate students,it also enabled graduate students to review and reinforce their knowledge and skills through teaching.We therefore believe that the Age-mixing Method is useful for both student trainees and graduate students.
