We developed lanthanoid-doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and attempted to apply them as wavelength conversion devices to near-infrared luminescent sugar sensors. By doping yttrium fluoride with ytterbium and thulium, UCNPs (NaYF4: Yb/Tm) showing upconversion (UC) emission in the near-infrared region (800 nm) were synthesized. A receptor-sensitive near-infrared absorbing dye that increases the absorbance in the near-infrared region (700-800 nm) by complex formation with phenylboronic acid (PBA) as a sugar receptor was immobilized on core-shell type lanthanoid UCNPs covered with a silica layer. When fructose was added to a dye-immobilized core-shell type UCNPs dispersion solution containing a certain amount of PBA (1.0 × 10−3 mol L−1), the UC emission intensity at 800 nm increased with increasing the concentration of fructose (0 mol L−1 to 3.0 × 10−1 mol L−1). This result indicates that the internal filter effect between the dye and UCNPs is eliminated by a change in the absorption spectrum of the immobilized receptor-sensitive dye due to a competitive complex formation reaction accompanying the increase in the fructose concentration. And as a result, the UC emission intensity increased. It was found that when the fructose concentration was 3.0 × 10−1 mol L−1, the UC emission intensity increased by 14.6% compared to the case without fructose.

We investigated long-lasting bubbles by mixing commercially available reagents. The features of the soap bubbles depended on the composition of the detergent, polymer, and other chemical components. Soap bubble containing sucrose, sodium alkyl ether sulfate (AES)- detergent and PVA laundry starch gave a spherical shape on various solid surfaces, including concrete, asphalt, tile, and grass after landing. We revealed that the low surface tension of the bubble was not the singular reason for its long lifetime. The lifetime of the film tended to be prolonged with decreasing humidity.

コンビニエンス・ストア(通称「コンビニ」)における新商品の売れ行き予測に関する学術的な検討が遅れている. 著者らはこれまでに 市販のPOSデータを用いて「おにぎり」と「カップラーメン」の新商品の売れ行き予測に関する予備的な検討として 特定店舗で成立する相関ルールの抽出を行なった. 本稿では 店舗を問わず成立する一般的知見の導出を目指す. 具体的には コンビニ会社A社へのヒアリングを通じて 新商品投入後二週目の売れ行き予測に対するニーズがあることを述べる. そして これを目的変数とした場合の説明変数として有効な変数を A社の協力の下 データマイニングにより導出する. これらの説明変数と目的変数を用いて 店舗ごとにルール抽出を行なうと有効なルールが得られることが確認された.Academic analysis of sales forecast for new items on sale in convenience store is insufficient. As a preliminary analysis, the authors have derived some association rules for every shop concerning demand of new ``onigiri" and ``cup ramen" by utilizing POS data on sale. In this paper, we try to find some general knowledge independent of a shop. Concretely, based on a hearing from a convenience store company A, we describe there exists a need for sales forecast in the second week for a new item. We adopt it as a target variable, and derive its effective explanatory variables by the use of data mining technique, based on the cooperation of the company A. We have confirmed that we can obtain some effective association rules, if we adopt these target variable and explanatory variables and perform distinct data mining for each shop.

[ABSTRACT] Late Professor Hideo Teramura was always saying, "If Chomsky died, what would English linguists in Japan do?" In response to this pet saying, the following three points are reconfirmed or confirmed. First, a native language is acquired universally on the basis of LAD (Language Acquisition Device) insofar as his/her auditory perception is normal. Second, native languages themselves are not necessarily universal, though the acquisition of native languages itself is universal. Third, universal grammar is not always necessary, which is Chomsky's blind spot and current issue.

[要旨] 合併銀行名に関して、昔、東京銀行を三菱銀行が「吸収」して東京三菱銀行に、今、さくら銀行(太陽神戸三井銀行)と若干より規模が大きい住友銀行とで三井住友銀行に、これが通例であり、これに対して、規模が大きい関東銀行と小さいつくば銀行が合併して関東つくば銀行になったことは異例であり、本報告では、合併銀行名の意味論に関して考察を進める。

The aim of this paper is to show that usual names of merged banks (e.g., Sumitomo Mitsui Bank) are different from those of fused studies (e.g.,"psychology of language" or "psycholinguistics"), contrary to those of integrated ministries (e.g., Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, "MEXT"),from a viewpoint of "Equivalence" and "Contact" in the sense of Kanno(2002,2003a,2003b,2009 and in press). Usual names of merged banks belong to "Equivalence", those of fused studies to "Contact", and those of integrated ministries to "Equivalence" oppositely.
