[Introduction] Many antidepressants are indicated for the treatment of major depression. Two network meta-analyses have provided the most comprehensive assessments to date, accounting for both direct and indirect comparisons; however, these reported conflicting interpretation of results. Here, we present a protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis aimed at updating the evidence base and comparing all second-generation as well as selected first-generation antidepressants in terms of efficacy and acceptability in the acute treatment of major depression. [Methods and analysis] We will include all randomised controlled trials reported as double-blind and comparing one active drug with another or with placebo in the acute phase treatment of major depression in adults. We are interested in comparing the following active agents: agomelatine, amitriptyline, bupropion, citalopram, clomipramine, desvenlafaxine, duloxetine, escitalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, levomilnacipran, milnacipran, mirtazapine, nefazodone, paroxetine, reboxetine, sertraline, trazodone, venlafaxine, vilazodone and vortioxetine. The main outcomes will be the proportion of patients who responded to or dropped out of the allocated treatment. Published and unpublished studies will be sought through relevant database searches, trial registries and websites; all reference selection and data extraction will be conducted by at least two independent reviewers. We will conduct a random effects network meta-analysis to synthesise all evidence for each outcome and obtain a comprehensive ranking of all treatments. To rank the various treatments for each outcome, we will use the surface under the cumulative ranking curve and the mean ranks. We will employ local as well as global methods to evaluate consistency. We will fit our model in a Bayesian framework using OpenBUGS, and produce results and various checks in Stata and R. The dog visual system is well suited to dim light conditions due to rod-dominated retina and the reflective tapetum. The topographical distributions of rods and thickness of the tapetum of the dog were quantified in retinal wholemounts stained with thionine, and spatial relationships among the tapetum, rod density and visual streak of high ganglion cell density were elucidated. The relationship between the retina and tapetum was analyzed in parasagittal sections stained with thionine or hematoxylin-eosin. The tapetum was thick in its center, and the thickest part consisted of 9 to 12 tapetal cell layers. Rod density ranged from 200,000 to 540,000/mm2. Maximum rod density was found in the area dorsal to the visual streak, and the density in that area was accorded significantly higher than the rod density in the visual streak and accorded spatially with the thickest part of the tapetum. The horizontal visual streak was found over the horizontal line through the optic disc in the temporal half and extended slightly into the nasal half. The central area of the highest density of ganglion cells was approximately located midway between the nasal and temporal ends of the visual streak. The visual streak was located within the tapetum, but ventrally to the thick part of the tapetum.

超高真空対応走査型トンネル顕微鏡による、不規則構造半導体の断面観察には、現用装置の改造が必要であった。製作企業との数度に亘る討議により、現用の表面観察に支障無く、改造し得る方法を案出した。今後、改造装置により本来の研究を続行し得る。InAs/GaAs量子ドットの規則、不規則配列の形成条件を知るために、スペ-サ層に相当するGaAs層の厚さを順次変えた試料を作製した。高分解能電子顕微鏡による試料断面を観察することにより、(1)GaAs層の厚さが、InAs量子ドットの高さの寸法と同じ厚さと、2倍の厚さの間であると、量子ドットが結合し合って規則的に配列し得ること、(2)薄いと量子ドットが潰れること、(3)厚いと結合が弱まり、量子ドットが互いに関連無く不規則に形成されること、などが分かった。J.Electronic Materials学術雑誌に掲載。InAs/GaAsの積層により、量子ドット数が増し、励起光あるいは注入電流を増すことにより、光量子効果による発光が強められる。InGaN結晶薄膜の成長において、位相分離が生ずることを実験的に見出した。これはGaN中にInNの量子ドットを形成する新しい方法と成り得る。しかしInNの形状を小さくする必要がある。AlN層に関しては、プラズマ励起成長法が如何に光量子物性に寄与するか検討中である。Stranski-Krastanov成長姿態が量子ドット形成に利用されている。層状と量子ドット状の形成において、歪エネルギーと表面エネルギーの和が小さくなる方が安定に形成されると云う考えにより、解析式を導いた。この式による理論値が、InAs/GaAsの遷移厚の実験値と良い一致を示し、今後ドット積層の場合に非常に有効な式となる。Electronic Materials Symp.(July,1998)に発表。研究代表者らは、これまで数多くの不規則超格子を作製してきた。これらの試料で未だ評価しきれていない物性値がある。本共同研究により、今後、上海技術物理研究所と共同で光検出に必要な物性値を含め、それらを解明して行く計画が立てられた。

本科研は、国立極東大学(1920-1939)及び当時の極東ロシアの日本学を考察し、アーカイブス資料に基づき、同時代の極東ロシアの実践的東洋学の意義と役割を改めて位置づけるように努めた。1930年代のロシアにおける大テロルの時代に粛清されたロシアの日本学者についての歪曲された事実を発掘し、ロシアの日本学史に大きな功績と持つ代表的な学者を始め、民間の研究者に至るまで、極東ロシアの日本学の知られざるページを究明した。本研究の成果は、2014年9月25日、大阪大学大学院言語文化研究科と極東連邦大学の地域国際研究スクール共催の国際シンポジウム「極東ロシアの東洋学:歴史・現代・将来」で公表された。

We aimed to document macroscopic variations in the cellular tapetum in the dog, to provide a histologic description of the macroscopic results and to evaluate the correlation between the macroscopic appearance and aging. Fifty three dogs including 5 beagles, 1 Chihuahua and 47 mixed breeds of each gender were used. For a macroscopic study, the fresh tapetal fundi were photographed using digital camera. For a histological study, the glutaraldehyde-formalin fixed eyes were embedded in nitrocellulose and stained with hematoxylin-eosin or thionine. The normal tapetum was triangular with the rounded angles and the smooth contour. The atypical tapetum was smaller and more variable in shape, contour and color than the normal one. In severe cases, the fundus was devoid of the tapetum. The atypical tapetum tended to increase in frequency with aging. Retinal pigment epithelial cells on the normal tapetum were unpigmented. In the eye with the atypical tapetum, regardless of tapetal size and shape, unpigmented retinal pigment epithelial cells showed a similar distribution to that on the normal tapetum, even in a dog without a tapetum. Although there is a congenitally hypoplastic tapetum, the atypical tapetum tends to increase in incidence and severity with aging.

Prostate cancer is a common disease in modern, developed societies and has a high incidence and mortality. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) has recently received much attention as a possible risk marker of prostate cancer development and prognosis. In the present article, we summarized findings from epidemiologic studies of the association between HDL-C and prostate cancer. Low HDL-C level was found to be a risk and prognostic factor of prostate cancer in several epidemiologic studies, although the overall linkage between HDL and prostate cancer has not been definitively established. The mechanisms for this association remain uncertain; however, limited data from experimental studies imply a possible role of HDL in the pathophysiology of prostate cancer. More epidemiologic research, in combination with experimental studies, is needed in this field.

The 2011, Mw9.0 Tohoku earthquake was followed by an abundant amount of seismicity providing a unique opportunity to analyze the triggering mechanism of great earthquakes. Although the Tohoku earthquake occurred close to a dense seismic network, many aftershocks that occurred in the first few hours after the mainshock are not recorded in the earthquake catalogs. Here we use a template waveform approach to recover as many as possible missing events in the first 12 hours following the Tohoku mainshock. Our analysis is able to detect about 1.4 times more events than those listed in the High Sensitivity Seismograph Network earthquake catalog. Combining our new dataset with earthquakes that occurred at latter times, we are able to observe a continuous decay of the aftershock rate and along strike expansion of aftershock area. We relate the latter observation to the occurrence of post-seismic slip over the deep interface.

One of the interesting features of the photoemission spectra of the high temperature cuprate superconductors is the presence of a large signal (referred to as the "background") in the unoccupied region of the Brillouin zone. Here we present data indicating that the background signal is a component of the photocurrent that is separate from the spectral function and is most likely due to strong scattering of the photoelectrons. We also present an analytical method that can be used to subtract the background signal.

We examine the momentum and energy dependence of the scattering rate of the high-temperature cuprate superconductors using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The scattering rate is of the form a + bomega around the Fermi surface for under-and optimal doping. The inelastic coefficient b is found to be isotropic. The elastic term a, however, is found to be highly anisotropic for under-and optimally doped samples, with an anisotropy which correlates with that of the pseudogap. This is contrasted with heavily overdoped samples, which show an isotropic scattering rate and an absence of the pseudogap above Tc. We find this to be a generic property for both single-and double-layer compounds.

We study the first-order finite-temperature electroweak phase transition of the SU~2! gauge-Higgs modeldefined on a four-dimensional isotropic lattice with the temporal extension Nt52. A finite-size scaling study ofLee-Yang zeros yields the value of the Higgs self-coupling of the end point at lc50.00116(16). An independentanalysis of the Binder cumulant gives a consistent value for the end point. Combined with our zerotemperaturemeasurement of Higgs and W boson masses, this leads to MH,c573.366.4 GeV for the criticalHiggs boson mass beyond which the electroweak transition turns into a crossover.

Magnetic and magnetotransport properties of pyromellitic dianhydride-4,4′-oxydianiline polyimide-Co granular thin films prepared by vapor deposition polymerization are investigated. The prepared sample is composed of Co particles with diameters of 2–3 nm homogeneously dispersed in a denatured polyimide matrix. The temperature dependence of the resistivity closely follows the T−1/2 law, suggesting that the dominant conduction mechanism is tunneling between metallic granules embedded in the insulating polyimide matrix. The magnetoresistances at 300 and 90 K are 2.6% and 3.0%, respectively. The results indicate that polyimide is a promising material for organic spintronics.

The study goal was to investigate thyroid cancer morbidity in population groups affected by the Chernobyl catastrophe. The study period comprised 1994-2006 for clean-up workers and 1990-2006 for Chernobyl evacuees and residents of contaminated territories. A significant increase of thyroid cancer incidence was registered in all observed population groups. The most significant excess over the national level was identified in clean-up workers. This amounted to a factor of 5.9, while it was 5.5 for the evacuees and 1.7 for the residents. The highest thyroid cancer risk was observed in persons exposed to radioiodine in childhood and adolescence.
