The purpose of the present paper is to establish a simulation method of the behavior of fresh concrete at its mixing, placing, consolidating, etc. As one of the method to estimate the flow and deformation of fresh concrete, a method of visco-plastic finite element analysis is proposed, and some analytical results are shown in this paper. In the analysis, slip resistance force between boundary surface and fresh concrete can be considered, and the dynamic behavior can be analyzed by calculation of the retardation of velocity change. The results of simulations are in good agreement with those calculated by simple theoretical equations about some examples such as flowing in pipe, parallel-plates plastometer, slump test, and the adequacy of the proposed analytical method is confirmed.

This paper presents some knowledge of vibrations caused by actions of a large audience during concert is given. Firstly, full investigation was made into relationships between vibrations, actions of audience and music programme of a concert. From this investigation, it was made clear that main cause of the vibration was "TATENORI" action "TATENORI" action was done by audience when rhythms of performed music became quick (about 2-3 Hz). Secondly, from the relationships between experimental and analytical investigation, exciting force of "TATENORI" action was estimated. One time history curve was obtained as the exciting force, which was composed of triangular pulses.

Uniformly loaded shallow shells whose shape conforms to an elastic membrane inflated by internal (air) pressure are often referred to as membrane shells. They are advantageous since no bending moments but only axial (membrane) stresses occur. In the present paper, membrane shells are defined analytically on circular, elliptical, and various regular-polygonal boundaries. The analytical results are verified by membrane tests, whereas the deflections of the inflated membranes are mapped by using a reflection-type Moire method. Design applications are introduced and cases of some irregular boundaries are also dealt with.

This paper presents a new method to calculate theoretical seismograms for earth structures considering the layered strata and local soil conditions surrounding an observation point. The reciprocal relationship of Green's functions is employed in the formulation, and the Green's functions are obtained in the frequency domain by combining of the three-dimensional thin layer elements developed by Waas, Kausel and Tajimi and the axisymmetric finite elements. The results in the time domain are obtained by the FFT algorithm. Therefore, the proposed method is called the thin layer finite element (TLFE) method in this paper. The accuracy of this method is examined by comparing its results with wavenumber integral solutions for a buried point source in an elastic halfspace. As a numerical example, theoretical seismograms on the idealized sedimentary basin model are calculated in order to illustrate the effect of local soil conditions surrounding the observation point.

Short-period microtremors are observed at two sites using arrays. It is found that their variation with frequency of amplitude ratio between horizontal and vertical motions is stable during a 24-hour period and is similar to that of Rayleigh waves, and that the frequencies at which the amplitude ratio becomes the maximum correspond to the natural periods of the sites. The frequency wavenumber spectrum analysis of microtremor vertical motions yields Rayleigh wave dispersion curves which reflect the shear structures of the sites. These findings suggest that site effects can be reliably estimated by extracting Rayleigh wave characteristics from microtremors.

In a woody space, we feel at ease and calm. On visual effect, patterns of the grain of wood is often used to interior walls, ceilings and so on. The objects of this study are the following ; (1) Considering of the grain of wood as geometrical stripe patterns and making clear its visual characteristics. (2) Generating a system of stripe patterns of the grain of wood, that are able to vary continuously with every change of parameters.

The woody image consists of various elements such as the grain pattern, the color tone, the gloss, the structure of wood. Among them, only the stripe patterns of the grain were investigated and discussed. The object of the present study is to examine what kind of patterns make us feel woody, and to make clear visual characteristics of the grain patterns. Thirty-nine grain patterns generated from the computer after the svstem are evaluated by questionaire with eighteen adjective rating scales. The conclusion is the following ; (1) The grain patterns appearing to be woody rimind us a good image-affective, natural, familiar, at ease etc. (2) The grain patterns have moderate fluctuation of stripes. The coefficient of variation is considered to be good for the index of the fluctuation.

This paper describes the accelerating test method for the soiling caused by flowing rain containing dirt. 1) The color changes of materials caused by flowing rain containing dirt were observed by rainy day exposure test. And the influence of flowing rain on soiling was clarified. 2) An apparatus for accelerating the soiling process caused by flowing rain containing dirt was developed and appropriate testing conditions of the apparatus were clarified based on the similarity of the results to the exposed materials. 3) The relation between accelerating test cycles and the environmental factors became clear. 4) The color difference between soiled material and unsoiled initial material had a correlation with the psychological scale obtained from a sensory test about soiling.

From an economical point of view of minimizing the sum of the expected value of total loss caused by disasters and the construction cost, the paper describes a probabilistic method for estimating the optimum initial resistance of structures with deteriorating resistance during the life of structures, and discusses the decision making of the load factor for such a structure.

Recent buildings have been more unburnable than before because changing of construction methods, progress of building materials, preparation of the related laws and regulations and so forth. But buildings have been more unextinguishable contradictory, and extinguish time need more longer than before. There are problems ; Is not the water application ratio low ? How much is the water damage area even if the water is used for extinguishing ? If we survey these problems, it is useful in order to make fire fighting planning. Then we investigated these items as a part of basic study on the extinguishing of the building fire.

Site effects on peak ground acceleration and velocity observed during the 1987 Chiba-ken-toho-oki earthquake (M=6.7) were evaluated. Strong-motion records at 173 sites with different site conditions were used for the analysis. The results indicate that 1) the site effects are more significant on peak ground velocity than on peak acceleration, 2) geomorphological land classification is more appropriate for evaluating the site effects than soil profile type or surface geology, and 3) the average shear-wave velocity of ground is a useful predictor of ground motion amplification at specific sites.

This study presents the evaluating method of hardness and slipperiness of aerobic dance floors from a viewpiont of comfortableness, fatigue, and safety. The evaluating indexes and evaluating method are established, based on the correspondence between the judgements of aerpobic dance instrutors and phisical values of aerobic dance floors measured by our original measuring devices.

In order to obtain the basic characteristics of the Random Decrement Technique, the numerical simulation of wind-induced vibration are conducted for single- and two-degree-of freedom systems with a given damping ratio. The effects of various parameters on the resultant damping ratio are examined, i. e. the number of superposition of samples, the value of the damping ratio, band width of band-pass filter and so on. The Random Decrement Technique is applied for evaluation of damping ratios of full-scale buildings. The results suggest that the technique is very useful for evaluation of the damping ratios of actual buildings under random excitations.

In this papaer, inelastic portion of steel beam-columns are modeled as a simple mechanism composed of inelastic bars and a shear panel. A hysteresis rule for the bar behaviors is also proposed in consideration of strain-hardening, softening due to Bauschinger's effect, and resistance deterioration due to local buckling failure as well. The parameters of the model are calibrated to the results of monotonic loading tests on H-shaped and box-shaped members. Then the response analysis based on the model was performed and compared with the results of the on-line earthquake response tests. It was confirmed that their global responses were well predicted by the present model.

A new finite element scheme is proposed to solve numerically incompressible viscous flow problems for high Reynolds number governed by the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations. This scheme serves in the finite element formulation based on the Petrov-Galerkin method using exponential weighting function. The unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are discretized by the semi-explicit scheme with respect to a time variable. As the computational scheme, the fractional step method which is one of the time splitting techniques is used effectively in this study. The validity of the proposed method is shown by numerical solutions of several flow problems.

A procedure for predicting the isoseismal map of a hypothetical earthquake is proposed using the Digital National Land Information as the GIS application to seismic microzoning. The average shear wave velocities of ground from surface to 30m depth, AVS, are estimated from site parameters included in the Digital National Land Information. The isoseismal map is predicted by multiplying of the site amplification factor estimated from AVS, and the intensity of standard ground motion which is obtained from the attenuation law. The calculation was conducted for the 1987 Chiba-ken-toho-pki earthquake. The calculated values showed good agreements with the observed ones.

In the incremental analysis of the critical behavior of an elastic-plastic structure, a conventional iterative procedure for finding the set of element stiffness coefficients consistent with the material flow law may often lead to a pitfall of cyclic process, in which a multiple inconsistent sets of stiffness coefficients are to be alternately or recurrently selected. This is one of the most serious difficulties left unsolved in combined nonlinear analysis. In this paper, the intrinsic mechanism and characteristics of these cyclic processes are clarified for a simple rigid body-spring column model. On the basis of the results, an effective strategy for finding the consistent set is proposed with the use of the eigenvector associated with the smallest negative eigenvalue of system stiffness matrix.
