<p>This paper presents a novel seeds-needs cooperation method using an ICF model and a simplified embodiment model to develop nursing care robots. In the V-process of the nursing care robot development guidebook published by AMED, an ICF model is used to consider role of <i>robots</i> in providing <i>nursing care</i>. In addition, the simplified embodiment model contributes to the realization of <i>robots</i> to achieve better <i>nursing care</i> using the proposed method. In particular, the ICF model and the simplified embodiment model are useful to design and refine the development concept of a nursing care robot. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed by a development record of an all-in-one nursing care robot for transferring and moving support in the Okinawa nursing care robot consultation.</p>

<p>In this study, we aim to develop a robust motion recognition system for an intelligent video surveillance system, that can be used for security, sports and rehabilitation by using extended alternative learning. A robust motion recognition system is necessary for the automated detection of security incidents by using a machine learning approach. However, to avoid the difficulty of collecting a huge training dataset, we propose an alternative learning approach that trains a deep neural network with a 3D-CG dataset to recognize several motions. We present our experimental results on motion recognition from free-viewpoint videos by using deep learning and alternative learning. The trained deep neural network (DNN) is evaluated using actual videos by classifying the different actions performed by real humans in these videos.</p>

<p>In 2019, we proposed an industry-school education skill succession (I-SSS) process and used it to develop a fisheries and marine skill learning system. In this study, we evaluate the appeal of the teaching materials in this system by using the ARCS motivation model from the perspective of learning motivation and search for the components of this system that would motivate learning. We used a teaching material evaluation sheet based on the ARCS motivation model to conduct a survey of students at a fisheries high school after using this system. From the results, we obtained many positive answers with all ARCS model factors, which confirmed that our proposed system had a high degree of usefulness for students. In addition, the results of the factor analysis on the motivation factor for student's learning show that the following the components lead to increased motivation for learning: "Procedure confirmation image, Presentation of finished form", "Basic skills listed in textbooks", "Explanation of practicality of skills", "Explanation of the relevance of skills and work/Qualification", and "Adoption of terms in textbooks, Easy-to-understand expressions".</p>

<p>This paper presents the development of a new method for the estimation and resolution of body occlusion using deep learning for an advanced intelligent video surveillance system. A generative adversarial network is used to estimate and reconstruct an image of a hidden part of the human body. Furthermore, an alternative learning approach using 3DCG that was developed in our previous study is adopted to create a large dataset for deep learning. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method performs well in the estimation of hidden parts of the human body using images of actual people.</p>

This paper presents a control scheme for smooth torque production in permanent-magnet synchronous motor drives. The proposed control scheme consists of two techniques: a feedforward compensation for torque ripple minimization and an online parameter estimation technique for harmonic fluxes. The feedforward compensation is constructed on a position-sensorless vector control system and generates voltage commands to suppress torque ripples. The command calculation process requires the parameters of the harmonic fluxes; therefore, the proposed control scheme includes their estimator and calculates them from detected current information. These techniques are simpler than existing ones and can be implemented on a computational device with a small amount of calculation load. The proposed control scheme is verified by performing simulations and experiments.

This paper proposes a new multivariable filter with variable-frequency characteristics for three-phase signal processing. The filter can make distinction between positive and negative frequencies of three-phase signals and can allow us to process the signals based on frequency polarity. The filter can also change dynamically its filtering characteristics by simply injecting a shift-signal to the filter. The filtering effects equivalent to ones by so-called the filters accompanied with vector rotators are obtained, but in much simpler manner. A unified analysis of attractive general characteristics of the multivariable filter is given for its easy designs and realizations as well. Effectiveness of the analysis and usefulness of the filter are examined and confirmed through experiments. The filter has potential to a variety of three-phase signal filtering applications.

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are widely used as an automotive motor, and there has been a demand for their further technological advance. A harmonic current control method has been used as a controllable approach for realizing its low vibration of PMSMs. In addition, a dual inverter system has attracted attention as an automotive motor system considering its fault tolerant function. In this study, an open-winding structure PMSM driven by dual three-phase inverters, which share a DC bus source, is used for the proposed third harmonic current control. By using third harmonic current control, it is possible to reduce both the sixth order torque ripple component and the second order radial force. The performance of the third harmonic current control of the open-winding PMSM is verified through FEA and experimental results.

This paper proposes new vector controllers in the D-module for controlling current of three-phase systems, which have no vector-rotators in current control loop. Conventional standard vector controller controls current of three-phase systems in rotational reference frame and a couple of vector rotators are indispensable in the loop. Vector rotators that perform sinusoidal operations on current must be realized in discrete-time manner, and sampling of current for the discrete-time processing restricts attainable bandwidth of the current control loop. Broader bandwidth of the loop is desired for both quick response and disturbance suppression. The proposed vector controllers in the D-module are so simple that no vector rotators in the loop are required, and can be realized in continuous-time manner due to its simplicity. Furthermore, under the same bandwidth of the current loop, the proposed one can show the equivalent performance to conventional standard vector controller having vector-rotators in the loop. These features allow broader bandwidth of the loop and better current control performance than the conventional vector controller. Two new vector controllers in the D-module are presented and their usefulness is examined and confirmed through numerical experiments.

This paper proposes online inductance identification methods, including two identification principles, three identification algorithms, and a compensation signal generation method for the sensorless drive of synchronous reluctance motors. The proposed methods have the following features. (a) The identification object is the “in-phase inductance”, which is only required for the “mirror-phase flux estimation”. (b) The inductance can be identified even in the steady state, where the frequency of the signals in the dq synchronous reference frame is substantially zero, and identifications are the most difficult. (c) The superimposition of a special signal, such as an M-sequence signal, is not required for the identification. (d) A compensation signal is essential for making the identified value converge to the true one. A compensation signal generation method that is applicable in the minimum copper loss control is proposed. (e) The identification can be performed, in principle, in the γδ general reference frame but it is practically performed in the αβ stationary reference frame. (f) Recursive calculations are possible, and the amount of calculations required for the identification is very small. This study also verifies the validity of the proposed identification methods with the aforementioned features through extensive numerical experiments.

This paper presents a position sensorless drive of a salient-pole brushless dc motor with a sinusoidal flux distribution. The algorithm is based on the estimation of back emf which is identified by the errors between the actual and estimated currents. Since the direction and amplitude of the estimated emf correspond to the rotor position and speed respectively, the position and speed can be estimated. The stability of the estimation and the design of the estimation gains are examined.The proposed algorithm were verified by using a 6-pole, 200W, 3000rpm test motor. In the results, the sensorless speed control range from 50rpm to 4000rpm under 0_??_100% load was obtained. The estimation algorithm is stable for any position error and any emf error.

<p>This paper presents a new battery self-traction system for high-speed trains. We developed an SiC applied traction system for the latest Shinkansen train, Series N700S. The developed system is so compact and lightweight that it saves space and weight, which can be used for new equipment under the floor of the car body. Utilizing the released space and weight, we started developing a novel battery system for traction to use in case of power failure of the catenary. This is the first battery self-traction system for high-speed trains in the world. In this paper, we introduce the design philosophy and procedures and discuss the results of the running tests.</p>

This paper presents a novel methodology of magnet temperature estimation using a magnet flux linkage observer for a Variable Leakage Flux Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous M (VLF-IPMSM), whose parameters vary depending on load current conditions. The magnet temperature estimation algorithm consists of a Gopinath-Style flux observer, magnet flux linkage observer, and magnet temperature estimator based on the look-up table. The estimation accuracy is evaluated on d-q current plane by using both a behavior model of JMAG-RT and a control model of MATLAB Simulink. Then it is shown that the proposed methodology can be applied to a VLF-IPMSM for magnet temperature estimation.

This paper presents the design studies of a multi-layer interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) with a radially oriented arc-shaped hot-deformed magnet for automotive traction drives. Specifically, by using the IPMSM on a 2010 Prius as a benchmark, we designed an IPM rotor geometry that simultaneously achieves a 20% improvement in both the maximum power and constant output power line with high efficiency while maintaining maximum torque. A prototype of the designed three-layer IPMSM was manufactured and evaluated. The results of the tests conducted on the prototype are reported and discussed in this paper.

This paper considers the improvement of the demagnetization resistance of concentrated winding IPMSMs under high temperature environments by arranging magnets with different magnetic field orientations. The obliquely oriented magnetized magnets to which Halbach array is applied are arranged on the end face of the rotor, thus improving both the magnetic flux density and demagnetization resistance.
