This paper describes the improvements in launching stability and launching velocity of the linear accelerator (LAC).<br>The authors have designed and produced a railgun using the LAC for weaving loom shuttles. The LAC is an electromagnetic launcher which enable a projectile to be launched at a speed of more than 50m/s. It basically consists of an uni-pole linear DC motor and operates the same principle as DC rotary motors, the most difficult problem in this system being the stabilization of the current collection on the projectile.<br>Then we have conducted the various launch experiments. As a result, we have achieved that the carbon projectile was launched at a speed of 73m/s using double-stage type LAC.

In a teleoperation system with communication delay, the contact information on the slave side is transmitted to the master side with time delay. Hence, an operator may misunderstand that the slave has not contacted an object and may add more force. Eventually, excessive force by the slave may collapse the object. This paper proposes model predictive control with a variable dumping method to prevent collision on contact in a teleoperation system with time delay. The prediction method considers the distance to the object on slave side, and variable dumping is implemented on the master side. The proposed method is evaluated through numerical simulations and experiments.

The inverter circuit of dc brushless motor (DCBLM) needs feedback diodes to protect the switching element from counterelectromotive force.In this paper, we describe the computational method of magnetic field analysis of DCBLM with feedback diodes. The electric circuit equations were formulated based on the theoretical formula of the PN-junction diode. And, solving these equations with the magnetic circuit equation by using the FEM, the electrical characteristic and the magnetic property of DCBLM were calculated. By replacing the switching elements with variable resistor, and transforming electric circuit by using Ho•Thevenin's theorem, the route of current is not necessary to change according to the state of feedback diode and switching elements.This method for feedback diodes is confirmed by the analysis of the permanent magnet DCBLM.

Recently, wireless charging via magnetic resonance coupling has gained attention because it has the potential of efficient midrange wireless charging. Here, functions such as sensing at the transmitter and wireless communication from the target are the essential elements to realize a standard wireless charging system. Currently, the sensing and communication protocol of the hardware (i.e., the high-frequency power source and antenna configuration) compatible with wireless charging is gaining attention in terms of its cost and space reduction due to the use of common components for multiple functions. However, this protocol has the problem of narrow effective areas due to the fact that the sensing range depends on the fixed Q factor of the antenna. To overcome this problem, the concept of wide-area sensing based on a Q controllable antenna is proposed, and the effectiveness is verified through a theoretical analysis and an experiment. As a result, it is clarified that the effective area can be expanded up to a ratio of the distance g between the transmitting and receiving antennas to the inner diameter d of the antenna g/d =5.0.

In this paper, construction logic of a man/machine safety work system is presented. Especially in a system where the human and machine cooperatively work on the time axis, safety assurance requires the human and machine to maintain different positions or states. A control of this positional relationship or state change is defined as block section control. In Chapter 3, the safety of the platform door system composed of train doors and platform doors is discussed. These systems are characteristic in that it has two or more safe areas and that its hazardous area change to safety area. The concept of the man/machine safety work system is applied to the station platform door system, and the conditions for assuring the safety of the control the station platform door system are derived.

East Japan Railway Company (JR, EAST) has developed the new type of electronic interlocking device which was applied the general-purpose information technology, and portable radio terminal which was added fail safe function. These new developments contribute to success of the modernization of the railway company and securing the safety fully. This paper informs these fail-safe methods of first practical using in Japan.The new type of electronic interlocking device and portable radio terminal have already installed for many stations, and these effects are not able to be said in a word fully. The new railway signaling technology which is based on the general-purpose information has come to new stage to apply the new railway signaling system. Accordingly this paper informs the significance of applying for the such field and possibility in the future.

Transmitting efficiency is one of the most important characteristics in dynamic wireless power transfer for electric vehicles. In this paper, a simple and efficient topology for a transmitting system called the DC bus system is introduced. Its simplicity maximizes the potential transmitting efficiency. Moreover, a receiving circuit topology and a maximum efficiency control, which is a method to maximize the transmitting efficiency by controlling the secondary voltage, are proposed. A real-time coupling coefficient estimation method is necessary to calculate the secondary voltage command for the control. A simulation and experimental evaluation of the maximum efficiency control was performed using an experimental setup. The results indicate that it provides a large improvement in efficiency and its implementation in a real dynamic power transfer system for electric vehicles is feasible.

The authors already proposed the new control scheme of the PWM converters where the control scheme was performed on the estimated voltage and phase of the source, thus eliminating the voltage sensor.The paper deals with a stability problem of a sensorless PWM converter control. Under consideration of the parameter error, the stability analysis of the proposed control is examined. In addition to that, a design procedure of the estimation gains is also examined. For the stable starting of the system, the initial estimation of the amplitude and phase angle of the source voltage is proposed.The effectiveness of the theoretical stability and estimation gain design has been confirmed by experiments.

Permanent magnet synchronous (PM) motors are widely used for industrial applications. In the PM motor drives, it is difficult to achieve the wide speed and constant power operations, which are desired in traction and spindle drives, because the field-flux of PM motor is uncontrollable and as a result the field-weakening control is not available. The air-gap flux, however, can be weakened by the demagnetizing effects due to the d-axis armature reaction (flux-weakening control). In this paper, the wide speed control method of the interior PM (IPM) motor, which includes the maximum torque-per-ampere control and the flux-weakening control, is proposed. In the high-speed flux-weakening region, there are some cases where the control performances become worse and the control system becomes unstable because of the saturation of current regulator and the effects of magnetic saturation. The high performance current regulator compensating these effects is also proposed. The control performances of the proposed control system are confirmed by the several drive tests with respect to the prototype IPM motor.

This paper provides a new method to estimate very high frequency (VHF) conducted noise from power electronic devices using numerical analysis. The switching waveforms generated by power semiconductor devices, which are the main noise sources, are calculated by a circuit simulation that uses semiconductor device models. The transfer functions from noise sources to voltage measurement points are calculated by the S-parameters on a power electronic device. The S-parameters are calculated by a 3D electromagnetic simulator. The combined results of circuit simulation and electromagnetic analysis create a good correlation with the actual experimental result in the frequency range of 200MHz and below.

Magnetic and mechanical characteristics of adhesive coating non-oriented electrical steel sheet cores were measured in the conditions of motor, comparing with those of welded cores. The deteriorations of iron losses and exciting currents by adhesion are less than those by welding. The noise levels and vibrating levels of adhesive coating cores are about 10dB lower than welded cores. The results of modal analysis of adhesive coating core and welded one support the results of noise and vibration tests. The heat conductivities of adhesive coating cores in lamination direction are higher.

It is desired to develop soft-switching power factor improvement technology and put it into practical use by means of a high-efficiency, low-noise, and low-cost resonant-type converter. Every technology that has been developed and reported so far has many disadvantages as well as advantages, and there are many problems to be solved before they can be put into practical use. In this paper, I am going to explain the structure of the partially capacitor input rectifier circuit that employs soft-switching operation that has been developed a new as the power-feedback-system one-converter circuit. These technologies have enabled us to put the power factor improvement for consumer-use electronic products into practical use.

In order for the Okinawan economy to grow independently, creating new businesses is essential. This will require the cultivation of technologies that will form the seeds of those businesses as well as the training of technicians and researchers.  To promote the creation of new businesses and innovation that are "unique to Okinawa," the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan set up a cooperative research committee for Okinawa-style robot-embedded/sustainable systems.  We proposed the concept of Okinawa-style robot-embedded systems. To realize this concept, we organized technical meetings and promoted research on this topic. At present, our research is focused on the development of ① a playback-type navigation robot for land and air, ② the learning-based super resolution (LBSR) method and hardware implementation for Bilateral Filter (BF), ③ a goat information and communication technology (ICT), and ④ the Bone Cloud for planning and verifying 3D bone models without performing a surgical procedure. Our promotions are now ongoing.

We have been studying the aplication of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for railway vehicle traction in order to reduce the weight and size of direct drive traction motor. As a part of this study establishing a current control system of PMSM suitable for railway vehicle traction should be investigated.In this paper we discuss about designing method of current control system mentioned above and suggest a method which is available under the condition of railway vehicle traction, low switching frequency and long digital calculating period. Next we investigate how to decide current response time constant Td and reach a conclusion that it is about 10ms is appropriate under some assumed condition. Then we checked this current control system for railway vehicle traction through experiments and studies of influence of parameter changing. Consequently we can recognize the current control system has satisfactory performance for railway vehicle traction.
