Hardware accelerators are being considered as important architectural components in the context of datacenter customization to achieve high performance and low power. Compression has played an important role in computer systems by enhancing storage and communication efficiency in the charge of extra computational cost. In this letter, we present a fully pipelined compression accelerator for the Lempel-Ziv (LZ) compression algorithm. The compression accelerator is verified by using FPGA and fabricated using 65nm CMOS technology.

A number of technical breakthroughs in electronics and photonics made since the early 1990s have started to bring terahertz (THz)-wave technologies from laboratory demonstrators to industrial applications such as non-destructive testing, security, medicine, communications, etc. This paper overviews the latest progress in THz-wave technologies in terms of components such as sources and detectors, and system applications, and discusses future challenges towards market developments.

This paper proposes a distributed ramp signal generator of column-parallel single-slope ADCs for CMOS image sensors. This architecture does not require any power-hungry amplifiers of the conventional one but consists of miniaturized column-wise ramp signal generators connected together by metal wires, which achieves high linearity and high uniformity. Simulation results show less than 1LSB nonlinear error of the ramp signal at 12-bit ADC resolution is attained only by having the consumption current of 6.4mA and the area of 2.4mm2 which are much smaller than the conventional one. It is also confirmed that 100mΩ resistive connection attains less than 1LSB gain error mismatching, even though the mismatch of the column-wise ramp signal generators is as large as 20%.

This paper presents a lowpass filter for 5.8GHz Doppler radar with an intermediate frequency signal hold function, which significantly reduces system power by interrupt mode operation. Additionally, it proposes a novel complementary push-pull DC offset calibration method to calibrate the DC voltage of the lowpass filter with the common mode voltage. Compared to traditional methods, the proposed scheme effectively stabilize the quiescent operating point of the receiver. The experimental results show that the power consumption of the proposed filter is 0.019mW, calibrated DC voltage is 1.65V, and residual DC voltage is less than 1mV.

The stress analysis of packaging on packaging (POP) under random vibration loading is conducted using the finite element model. The effect of structural parameters on solder joint stresses is analyzed by sensitivity analysis. Stress fitting is performed using the response surface method (RSM), and the optimization module is used to optimi-ze the structural parameters of POP packaging. The results demonstrate a reduction of 0.016 and 0.0031MPa in upper and lower solder joint stresses, respectively. This optimization of the structural parameters improves the reliability of the electronic packaging structure.

In this paper, we propose to use the junction temperature difference estimated by two temperature-sensitive electric parameters (TSEPs), threshold voltage, and p-n junction forward voltage of the IGBT module to monitor the aging of the bond wires. When the bond wires are lifted off, the chip surface temperature and the overall temperature gradient will increase, making the temperature difference measured by these two TSEPs larger. A new method is proposed in this paper to monitor the aging of the bonding wires of IGBT modules by the difference between them, and the correctness of the proposed method is verified by experiments on IGBT modules with different degrees of bonding wire aging.

In integrated designs of multiple IP cores across clock domains, signal metastability can occur due to unequal wiring and variations in PVT. This leads to inconsistency between the signals obtained by the target and the signals at the source. Establishing a FIFO is one of the crucial methods for addressing data inconsistency. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel array structure based on one-hot coding, where the row and column codes generated by Johnson counters are XORed to create the address pointer. This innovation reduces the area for the FIFO and enables rapid control logic using one-hot coding. Furthermore, a state-based approach is employed to mitigate the impact of memory size on the empty/full detection circuit. It only records the read-and-write addresses, enhancing the reconfigurability of the FIFO. Using the SMIC 0.18µm process, the synthesis and simulation results demonstrate that the FIFO can achieve a maximum operating frequency of 830MHz. Additionally, compared to similar synchronous FIFO, it exhibits a significant 30% reduction in area. When considering different FIFO depths and widths, the method proposed in the paper shows an area reduction of 30% to 47% compared to similar synchronous methods. For a depth of 16 and a data width of one word, the power consumption is about 6.8 mW. The FIFO presented in this paper can serve as a reference for data transmission between different clock domains.

Composite insulation equipment is widely used in power systems, and the detection of internal material interface defects is an important and difficult task in power grids. Terahertz wave can help detect internal faults in equipment in a timely manner, but the analysis of large amounts of data has brought about significant labor costs. In order to improve the efficiency of Terahertz wave detection, this paper proposes a Terahertz wave defect detection method based on spectrum feature fusion and spiking neural network. By performing multiple wavelet basis transformations on terahertz wave timing waveforms, and then performing feature fusion extraction on the data through a self encoder incorporating spatial and channel attention mechanisms, the differences between different defect detection waveforms are expanded. Then, spiking neural networks are used to classify the feature fused spectra to obtain defect detection results. Compared with other typical models, this model performs better in terms of accuracy and training costs.

Electromagnetic interference has always been an important assessment indicator for the inspection of power intelligent Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a structure optimization study to improve the UAV’s anti-electromagnetic interference capability. This paper analyses the flight stability of the UAV at different heights under the strong magnetic environment of the dry-type transformer, and carries out structural optimisation of the rotary-wing UAV design against the standard non-magnetic environment. After simulation and comparison, the UAV’s anti-electromagnetic interference capability is significantly enhanced after structural optimisation. The research results of this paper can further expand the application scope of inspection UAVs and provide a strong technical guarantee for promoting the development of intelligent and automated power inspection.

With the continuous deepening of ocean exploration and the growth of emergency rescue needs, the hydroacoustic transducer, as an important component of sonar, has become more and more demanding. To improve the reception performance of the piezoelectric transducer, we developed a high-frequency, high-sensitivity planar piezoelectric transducer. A variant 1-3-2 type piezoelectric material is used to improve the effective electromechanical coupling coefficient, the upper surface of the material is covered with a brass plate to amplify the reception stress, and two variant 1-3-2 type piezoelectric materials with different dimensional parameters are arranged vertically to expand the bandwidth. We investigated the material properties and determined the material dimensions actually used to fabricate a planar hydroacoustic transducer utilizing electromechanical equivalent circuit analysis methods and finite element simulations. A prototype planar hydroacoustic transducer was fabricated and tested for resonant frequency, receiver sensitivity, bandwidth, and horizontal directivity then. The results show that the transducer’s resonant frequency is about 218.7kHz, the maximum receiving sensitivity is -178.7dB, the 3dB loss receiving bandwidth is about 45kHz, and the horizontal directivity is about 17°. The test results all indicate that the developed hydroacoustic transducer has great potential for application in marine exploration and underwater emergency rescue.

A method for designing a broadband high-efficiency power amplifier (PA) based on a novel loop-shaped filter matching structure is proposed in this paper. By combining a power amplifier matching circuit and a loop-shaped filter structure, a broadband high-efficiency PA based on a new harmonic matching structure is realized. The novel loop-shaped filter can control the second and third harmonics in a wide frequency range and has a specific control effect on higher-order harmonics, which can further expand the bandwidth of class-F PA and improve efficiency. To verify its feasibility, a power amplifier with a bandwidth of 1.6GHz-3.4GHz, a saturated output power greater than 41dBm, a drain efficiency of 65%-72% with a gain greater than 10dB is designed and fabricated using GaN HEMT CGH40010F transistor.

In this study, a mechanical movable device is used to achieve a mechanical tuning phase shifter with adjustable substrate, which has a huge potentiality of tuning range. The main body of phase shifter is microstrip structure. The substrate has two layers with one movable layer. By moving the movable layer, the equivalent relative permittivity of component is changed and tunability is realized. The phase is -128.2° to 96.1° at 6GHz while the transmission coefficient S21 is from -2.09dB to -2.70dB throughout the entire tuning process. The movable layer is better to be with high relative permittivity and relative permeability to reach a wider tuning range.

A novel quasi-planar five-port E-plane waveguide power divider with new computer-aided design method is proposed, which lower down the fabrication costs and expand application of waveguide components in the higher frequency ranges, integrations and massive die-casting productions of microwave circuits. A sample, planar five-port E-plane power divider operating between 3.1GHz and 3.6GHz, is designed from an initial concept of the well-known branch-line waveguide coupler. The sample circuit is fabricated and measured. Tested results show that the input reflection is lower than -25dB, insertion loss lower than 0.1dB. The amplitude difference between two output ports is smaller than 0.04dB, and the phase difference between the two output ports smaller than 0.3 degree.

This paper presents a novel compact and broadband filtering balun using N-shaped spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs). The N-shaped SSPP unit cell’s lateral size has a 48% reduction compared to the rectangle-shaped counterpart. The proposed filtering balun is constructed by periodically etching N-shaped and mode-matching SSPP unit cells into the slotline balun consisting of the microstrip-to-slotline transition structures. The combination of the N-shaped SSPP unit cells and slotline balun realize the compactness and the broadband bandpass filtering response. Moreover, we can individually adjust the passband’s lower and upper cut-off frequencies. Due to the larger phase constant of the N-shaped SSPP unit cell, the field-confined ability of the proposed filtering balun is enhanced. The proposed design is fabricated and measured. It has advantages in bandwidth, stopband performance, size, and degree of design freedom compared with existing SSPP filtering baluns.

This study proposes a novel design method of a neuromorphic electronic circuit: design of a neuromorphic circuit based on appropriately selected hybrid dynamics of sequential logic with a single clock, sequential logic with multiple clocks, and numerical integration. Based on the proposed design method, a novel central nervous system model of C. elegans is presented. It is shown that the presented model can realize typical responses of a conventional central nervous system model of C. elegans. Furthermore, the presented model is implemented by a field programmable gate array and is used to control a prototype robot of C. elegans body. Experiments validate that the presented central nervous system model enables the body robot to reproduce typical chemotaxis behaviors of the conventional C. elegans model. In addition, comparisons show that the presented model consumes fewer circuit elements and lower power compared to various central nervous system models of C. elegans based on the sequential logics and the numerical integration.

This letter presents an integrated 5G NR n79-band power amplifier with high power and efficiency that was fabricated using WIN Semiconductors’ 0.25-μm GaN/SiC technology. The stability and linearity issues of the PA is thoroughly considered. High efficiency and broadband operation were achieved using a continuous Class-F mode output matching network. This two-stage PA had a power gain, 3-dB power bandwidth, saturation power, and peak power-added efficiency of 20.4dB, 3.6-5.4GHz, 39.1dBm, and 50.9%, respectively. Its average output power was 33.3dBm under an error vector magnitude requirement of 3.5% for a 5G NR FR1 256-QAM 100-MHz-bandwidth modulated signal with a frequency of 3.7-5.0GHz.

A high voltage, external capacitor-less low-dropout regulator (HVLDO) with transient enhancement loop is presented in this work. The proposed HVLDO is designed with high withstand voltage laterally-diffused MOS (LDMOS) transistors and a transient enhancement loop is proposed to properly inject/sink current to/from the gate and output nodes of the power transistors to achieve fast transient response and high stability. Fabricated in 0.5µm SOI BCD process, the HVLDO occupies an active area of 0.29mm2. Operating with an input voltage ranging from 5.2 to 20V, it supplies an output voltage of 5V and a maximum load of 100mA. For all load conditions, this design has the power supply rejection of -49dB@100kHz, the phase margin over 68.4deg and achieves a temperature coefficient of 13.15ppm/°C. Measurement results show that this design has a line regulation of 0.88mV/V and a load regulation of 0.22mV/mA. The proposed HVLDO features fast line transient response of 60/20mV@9.8V/µs, fast load transient response of 30/70mV@100mA/µs, and recovery time of 2µs without external capacitors. Compared with the prior art, this work achieves the best transient FOM of 12.19fs.

This paper proposes a near-field focused (NFF) planar transmitarray with low profile operating in the C-band. A frequency selective surface (FSS) unit cell with a profile of only 0.15λ is designed by combining generalised scattering theory with full-wave simulations. To achieve better focusing, the transmission phase of the central unit cell of the transmitarray is adjusted to 90°. The focusing relative bandwidth is 13.7% at a centre frequency of 5.8GHz, which enables a good focusing effect to be achieved. Meanwhile, this paper evaluates the microwave power received at the receiver when the proposed transmitarray used in MPT system. The measured results show that loading the proposed transmitarray can improve the received power up to 510%. Futhermore, in the range of 220-660mm from the transmitarray, the received power can be increased to more than 300%.

A comprehensive study of air core recta-coax line (ARCL) based on MEMS surface micromachining technology is presented in this paper. The ARCL-to-semi-rectangular coaxial transmission line (SCL) ground-signal-ground (GSG) transition is proposed and designed for probe testing and integration with MMIC chips. To obtain the characteristic impedance of SCL, an equivalent model and theoretical derivation process is presented. In order to consider the effects of processing on performance, electrical effects of dielectric support strap parameters and potential fabrication issues including offset layers and over etching are investigated. For verification, the back-to-back GSG transition is fabricated and measured which has a low insertion loss of 0.13dB up to 50GHz, and a return loss better than -23dB within 5-50GHz. As an example, a demonstration of ARCL with GSG transition for MMIC chips integration is demonstrated.

This paper introduces a method to achieve fast scanning power supply for Proton Therapy. To meet the specific needs of this power supply, a new structure consists of dynamic module (high voltage part) and static module (low voltage part) has been designed and tested. The simulation results and actual waveform were listed in this paper. The results showed that the current rising slope can reach 90kA/s.
