We report the cases of 10 patients with acute lithium intoxication who were treated over the past 6 years. The range of lithium overdose was 600 mg to 9,600 mg and the lithium concentration of all cases was greater than the toxic concentration. Three of the 10 cases were treated with fluid therapy. Another 3 cases were treated with continuous hemodiafiltration (CHDF). The rest were treated with hemodialysis (HD). The serum lithium concentration of the 3 patients with fluid therapy gradually decreased. However, it took 24 hours after the treatment to reach the therapeutic level in Case 2 since the slope was comparatively loose. In the meantime, the high lithium concentration of patients with CHDF (Cases 4, 8, 10) and HD rapidly decreased and it finally reached the therapeutic level. But a post-dialysis rebound effect in the lithium concentration was detected in Case 9. This report shows that CHDF and HD is an effective and sufficient treatment for lowering the serum concentration of lithium in a short period in acute lithium toxicity. As the serum lithium concentration of a patient with HD often rebounds and repeated or prolonged treatment may be required, we reaffirmed the patient's condition. Thus, completion of HD should be judged based on not only serum lithium concentration but also sufficient observation of the clinical course.

To investigate the influence of briquette size and density on the combustion behavior in both flaming and char combustion stage, the combustion experiments with the highly densified columnar briquette made from cypress sawdust were carried out. Three sizes of the briquette, φ30 mm×60 mm, φ35 mm×70 mm and φ40 mm×80 mm, of which diameter/length ratio is kept constant at 1/2 and three types of the briquette density, 900, 1100 and 1300 kg/m3 were employed. The water content of the briquette was kept around 10 wt%. The mass loss rate and the duration in both combustion stages were measured. In the flaming combustion stage, it is observed that the average mass loss rate per unit specific surface area is proportional to the briquette surface area, while it doesn't depend on the briquette density. It is expected by considering Fourier number that the flaming combustion duration is proportional to the product of the inverse square of the specific surface area and the briquette density and it is shown that the experimental results correspond to the expectation. It is found that the relationship between normalized mass loss rate and normalized time is nearly the same regardless of the briquette size and density. In the char combustion stage, normalized mass loss can be approximately expressed with the shrinking core model by assuming the effective oxygen diffusion coefficient in the ash layer for each briquette density used in this study. And it is found that the effective oxygen diffusion coefficient in the ash layer obtained by the shrinking core model decreases with increasing the briquette density.

By developing Automatic Identification System (AIS), vessel positioning and detailed movement can be understood in real time. Although vessel movement data including AIS have been conventionally utilized in suspicious vessel detection, collision avoidance, and vessel trajectory analysis, etc., this study focuses on the new application fields of vessel movement data including logistics, shipping, shipbuilding, environment, and cruise industry. In this paper, description of AIS data and literature review of each field are first summarized, then the results of the questionnaire survey to the industry and application service of AIS data are analyzed. Finally, the future prospects of research and application to the industry in the fields that the authors focus are summarized.

地域暖房の熱輸送システムの設計計画問題において, (イ)配線系サイズの縮小化, (ロ)ポンプ規模の縮小化および(ハ)熱交換器系サイズの縮小化という設計目標をそれぞれ独立した目的関数として考え, 一つの非線形多目的最適化問題として定式化した. 上記問題に対し, 計算機を対話形式で援用してシステム構成機器の主要設計要目を合理的に決定する一手法を提案し, 設計事例を通じてその有効性の検証と最適解の特徴を検討した.

Background: Because generic medicines reduce the financial burden on patients and medical insurance providers, they become more popular year after year.  However, there are still few reports that analyze the efficacy and safety of generic medicines, especially in terms of their characteristics and side effects.Methods: Paclitaxel is an antineoplastic frequently used with good results in the treatment of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, gastric cancer, and angiosarcoma, but fat solubility is high and various kinds of adverse events, such as myelosuppression and arthralgia, peripheral neuropathy, and alcohol hypersensitivity are known to develop.  We investigated the efficacy, characteristics, and the incidence of adverse events for the generic product of paclitaxel.Results: Differences were found for the generic version in terms of the characteristics and preparation time.Conclusion: The incidence of adverse events was not significant, suggesting that the generic version could be a reasonable substitute.

Utilization of biomass fuel is attracting more attention due to its advantage to the global warming problem. Biocoke (BIC), highly densified biomass briquette, has unique features such as economical advantages for its versatility of biomass resources, high volumetric calorific value because of its high density and high mechanical strength. The BIC made of Reynoutria japonica (Japanese knotweed), cylindrical blocks with 48 mm in diameter and 85 mm in length, are selected in the study. To investigate the fundamental thermal and combustion properties of the BIC, ignition and combustion behaviors are observed in the hot air flow. The results show that the ignition mode and the mass loss rate during the flaming combustion are influenced by the supplied air temperature with an interesting manner. This may be ascribed to the thickness of the heated layer inside the BIC depending on the preheating condition. This is because the heated thickness strongly controls the evolution characteristics of pyrolysis gas and the temperature distribution inside the BIC depends on the distinctive property of the BIC, high density. Finally, a new concept of BIC combustion method is proposed considering the BIC unique physical features as well as its fundamental combustion characteristics.

第1に,統一後のドイツの財政・租税制度がどうなるかという点である。これはさしあたり,三つの局面に分けられる。ひとつは,ドイツ統合は制度面からみれば東ドイツの5州が西ドイツ11州からなる連邦共和国に加入する形をとったので,西ドイツの財政・租税制度が東ドイツに拡大して適用されるという局面である。西ドイツの財政・租税制度はドイツ特有の連邦主義の国家構造を支えるものであることが明らかにされた。ふたつめの局面は,それにもかかわらず,1990年8月31日の第2国家条約(統一条約)において東ドイツの5州に対して各種の例外措置が認められたことである。州相互間の水平均財政調整への不参加等がその例である。これらの例外措置は1994年をもって廃止されることになっている。三つ目の局面は,1991予算年度からどのような手直しが財政・租税面からおこなわれたかということである。これは現在進行中であるから今後も追う必要がある。第2に,地方財政・地方税制の次元でドイツ統合はいかに進行しているかを分析する点である。地方税制が安定し,これに支えられて地方財政(具体的には,毎年度の予算循環)が順調に経過するようになった時,東西ドイツ統合に伴う財政・租税問題が絡結する。なぜなら,財政の資源配分に係わる機能は,地方財政において主として実行されているからである。この見地から,東西ドイツの市町村を対比した財政構造と各種の財政指標の推移が分析された。さらに,地方税の基幹である営業税の改革の進行状況がサーウェイされた。

An optimal unit sizing method is developed for hybrid power generation systems utilizing photovoltaic and wind energy. Equipment capacities and electric maximum demand are determined so as to minimize the annual total cost and annual energy consumption from the viewpoints of economy and energy conservation, respectively. This optimization problem is considered as a multiobjective one, and a discrete set of Pareto optimal solutions is derived numerically using the weighting method. Two systems interconnected with the electric power grid are inventigated : one has the option of reverse power flow into the grid, and the other, no option. By carrying out some case studies, the trade-off relationships between the two objectives are clarified, and optimal values of equipment capacities are determined. The effect of electricity deficit on unit sizing is also investigated.

カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)を安価に大量に生成できると期待される火炎プラズマを有する燃焼合成法において、直流電場を与えることによりCNT生成が促進される。本研究では、電場印加によるCNT生成場の温度や化学種濃度の変化、生成CNT量および性状への効果を調べるとともに、電気炉中におけるCNT合成に電場を与えCNT成長への電場の効果を調べた。その結果、電場の付与によりCNT成長促進、結晶度の向上が見られ、燃焼合成法における電場付与のCNT合成への効果として、火炎プラズマ移動にともなうCNT捕集増大と金属触媒活性の向上が示唆された。

We developed a support system for pharmaceutical counseling services using a handheld computer loaded with HS-WIN. HS-WIN is standard software for pharmaceutical counseling services that is compatible with Windows X-P, 2000 and 98. Our support system is linked to the pharmacy network system of Oita University Hospital. It enables various kinds of information to be retrieved from the pharmacy network system and shown on the display of a handheld computer. This includes drug information, names, sex, birth dates, heights and weights of patients as well as clinical department and ward-related information. The handheld computers are the VAIO PCG-U 1 and PCG-U 3 (SONY, Inc.) and they are used at the bedside. To evaluate the effectiveness of our system,we measured the time required for the management of medication histories and patient counseling records for three wards.The system was able to reduce the time required per patient by an average of 34 minutes.
