The numbers of heavy air pollution events per year in Beijing have decreased significantly since 2017. To find out the reasons and how meteorology and emissions control have played a role in this change, we used the WRF-SMOKE-CMAQ modeling system to reconstruct the characteristics of the fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations from 2013 to 2019. The model system performed well, and the correlation coefficients (R) between the simulated and observed daily PM2.5 concentrations were all above 0.64. The model results also show that the meteorology contributed approximately ±5 μg/m3 to the annual average PM2.5 concentrations. More interestingly, the coincidence degrees of the simulated PM2.5 concentrations to the heavy pollution (daily PM2.5 concentration > 150 μg/m3) dates decreased significantly after 2016. Meteorology plays an important role in reducing the number of heavy pollution days. According to the model results under the same emission scenarios, the average numbers of heavy pollution days from 2017 to 2019 decreased by 33% compared to the period from 2013 to 2016, while the numbers of good days changed by less than 1%. These results also indicate that meteorology made a significant contribution to decreasing the number of heavily polluted days after 2016.

目的 地域診断により要介護リスクを抱えた高齢者が多く居住する地域を特定し,モデル地区として重点的に通いの場の立ち上げや運営を支援することで,地域レベルの指標が改善し地域間の健康格差が縮小するかを検証することを目的とした。方法 神戸市と日本老年学的評価研究は,要介護認定を受けていない高齢者を対象に全市で実施したサンプリング郵送調査データを用い,市内78圏域(1圏域≒中学校区)の地域診断を行った。複数の要介護リスク指標で不良な値を示し,重点的な支援が必要と判断された16圏域を2014~19年度にかけてモデル地区として指定し,市・区・地域包括支援センター・研究者らが連携して通いの場の立ち上げや運営を支援した。さらに,4回(2011, 13, 16, 19年度)の同調査データ(各8,872人,10,572人,10,063人,5,759人)を用い,モデル地区(16圏域)と非モデル地区(62圏域)との間で,中間アウトカム9指標(社会参加3指標,社会的ネットワーク2指標,社会的サポート4指標)と健康アウトカム5指標(運動器の機能低下,低栄養,口腔機能低下,認知機能低下,うつ傾向)の経年推移を,線形混合効果モデルにより比較した。結果 2011,13年度調査では,全14指標中13指標でモデル地区は非モデル地区より不良な値を示していた。その差が2016,19年度調査にかけて縮小・解消し,年度×群の有意な交互作用が確認された指標は,中間アウトカム4指標(スポーツ・趣味関係のグループ参加,友人10人以上,情緒的サポート提供),健康アウトカム3指標(口腔機能低下,認知機能低下,うつ傾向)であった。たとえば,2011年度の趣味関係のグループ参加はモデル地区29.7%/非モデル地区35.0%であったが,2019年度には35.2%/36.1%と地域差が縮小した(P=0.008)。同様に,情緒的サポート提供は83.9%/87.0%が93.3%/93.3%(P=0.007),うつ傾向は31.4%/27.2%が18.6%/20.3%(P<0.001)となり,差が解消した。結論 地域診断により要介護リスクを抱えた高齢者が多く住む地域を特定し,住民主体の通いの場づくりを重点的に6年間推進することで,社会参加やネットワーク,サポートが醸成され,ひいては地域間の健康格差の是正に寄与したことが示唆された。

By applying a novel active layer of titanium zinc oxide (TiZO), we have successfully fabricated fully transparent thin-film transistors (TFTs) with a bottom gate structure fabricated on a flexible plastic substrate at low temperatures. The effects of various oxygen partial pressures during channel deposition were studied to improve the device performance. We found that the oxygen partial pressure during channel deposition has a significant impact on the performance of TiZO TFTs, and that the TFT developed under 10% oxygen partial pressure exhibits superior performance with a low threshold voltage (V<inf>th</inf>) of 2.37 V, a high saturation mobility (μ<inf>sat</inf>) of 125.4 cm<sup>2</sup>V<sup>−1</sup>s<sup>−1</sup>, a steep subthreshold swing (SS) of 195 mV/decade and a high I<inf>on</inf>/I<inf>off</inf>ratio of 3.05 × 10<sup>8</sup>. These results suggest that TiZO thin films are promising for high-performance fully transparent flexible TFTs and displays.

Antipsychotic-induced metabolic dysfunction (AIMD) is an intractable clinical challenge worldwide. The situation is becoming more critical as second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs), to a great extent, have replaced the role of first-generation antipsychotics in managing major psychiatric disorders. Although the exact mechanisms for developing AIMD is intricate, emerging evidence has indicated the involvement of the microbiota-gut-brain axis in AIMD. SGAs treatment may change the diversity and compositions of intestinal flora (e.g., decreased abundance of Bacteroidetes and Akkermansia muciniphila, and increased Firmicutes). Short-chain fatty acids and other metabolites derived from gut microbiota, on the one hand, can regulate the activity of intestinal endocrine cells and their secretion of satiety hormones (e.g., glucagon-like peptide 1, peptide YY, cholecystokinin and ghrelin); on the other hand, can activate the vagus nerve or transport into the brain to exert a central modulation of foraging behaviors via binding to neuropeptide receptors. Interestingly, metformin, a classical antidiabetic agent, is capable of alleviating AIMD possibly by regulating the microbiota-gut-brain axis. That is, metformin can not only partially reverse the alterations of gut microbial communities due to SGAs treatment, but also play a positive role in rectifying the disturbances of peripheral and central satiety-related neuropeptides. Current evidence has indicated a promising role for metformin on ameliorating AMID, but further verifications in well-designed clinical trials are still warranted.

Aging weakened innate and adaptive immunity both quantitatively and qualitatively. Some components in propolis could stimulate immune function in young animals or cultured immune cells in vitro. Few studies had been carried out in the aged. The present study was to evaluate the effects of Brazilian green propolis supplementation on the immunological parameters in aged mice. Eighty Kunming mice, aged 15–18 months, were randomly assigned to the control and three experimental groups supplemented with different doses (83.3, 157.4 and 352.9 mg/kg.bw respectively) of Brazilian green propolis. The experiment lasted for 4 weeks. Contents of total polyphenol, flavonoid, cinnamic acid and artepillin-C in Brazilian green propolis were analyzed. Splenic NK cytotoxic, T lymphocyte proliferation and antibody generation cells, as well as the phagocytosis of peritoneal macrophages, ear swelling, and serum contents of IgG, IgM, hemolysin and cytokines were measured. After 4 weeks of treatment, the phagocytosis of peritoneal macrophages was enhanced in 157.4 mg/kg and 352.9 mg/kg groups. Ear swelling increased in all propolis treatmented groups. Antibodies specific to sheep erythrocytes were higher in the groups receiving 157.4 and 352.9 mg/kg.bw than that of control group. IgG level dramatically increased in the groups receiving 83.3 and 157.4 mg/kg.bw in comparison to the control group. These results indicate that administration of Brazilian green propolis have a positive effect on innate and adaptive immunity in aged mice.

<p>An offline solid-phase extraction (SPE) approach combined with a large-volume injection (LVI)-gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (LVI-GC-FID) is improved for routine analysis of mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) in vegetable oils. The key procedure of the method consists in using offline SPE columns for MOSH purification. The SPE column packed with 1% Ag-activated silica gel was used to separate MOSH from triglycerides and olefins in variety of vegetable oils. The eluent of MOSH fraction was only 3 mL and the concentration step was quick with little evaporation loss. The limit of quantification (LOQ) of the method was 2.5 mg/kg and the linearity ranged from 2 to 300 mg/kg. The accuracy was assessed by measuring the recoveries from spiked oil samples and was higher than 90%. Twenty-seven commercial vegetable oils were analyzed, and different levels of MOSH contamination were detected with the highest being 259.4 mg/kg. The results suggested that it is necessary to routinely detect mineral oil contamination in vegetable oils for food safety.</p>

This study applies a multiple discrete-continuous extreme value (MDCEV) model to analyze tourist's time use behavior involving multiple activities. The MDCEV model is applied because it has several advantages over other existing time use models, including the joint representation of participation in multiple activities and the allocated time, diminishing marginal utilities (satiation effects), and different baseline utilities. Application analysis is carried out using a data collected from tourists in Japan. Influential factors related to time use in 7 activity categories are explored. Concretely speaking, individual attributes including age, employment status, residential area, travel experience, and trip-related attributes including travel mode, travel party, travel season are found to be important influential factors. It is also observed that the level of satiation is high for shopping activities and low for sport and hot spring activities.
