This paper evaluates the performance of the Doppler measuring system at Usuda Deep Space Center. The system is used for the tracking of Japanese deep spacecraft "SAKIGAKE" and "SUISEI". It will be very important to evaluate the system performance since the tracking accuracies of the spacecraft are very sensitive to the Doppler frequency error. Here we evaluate the system performance by the analyses of the tracking data of "SAKIGAKE" and "SUISEI".

本稿は、AIをめぐる法的因果関係について、法哲学者H. L. A. ハートと民法学者T. オノレが『法における因果性』において展開した法的因果関係論を基に検討したものである。AIをめぐる法的因果関係は、近年注目を集めるAIをめぐる法的責任と密接な関わりがある。ここでは、AIの開発やAIの利用といった人間の行為とAIの判断・指示との関係性が問題となる。そこで本稿では、これらの関係性について、ハート=オノレが提示した人間の行為と他の人間の行為との関係性についての理論を応用し検討した。その結果、ハート=オノレの法的因果関係論が用いる判断基準の曖昧さ、AIと人間の判断のどちらが信頼に足るものかを決めることの困難さ、AI開発において満たすべき基準を定めることの困難さが、AIをめぐる法的因果関係の根幹にある問題であることが明らかになった。これらの諸問題の背景には、AIを対象とする場合に、法的因果関係の存否を判断する際の基準となる「通常」という規範的な概念の動揺がある。これは従来の法的因果関係論とAIが立脚する世界観の違いに起因するものであり、AIが立脚する世界観を共有する法的因果関係論の可能性を検討することが求められる。In this article, the author examined legal causation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) by applying the legal causation theory of H. L. A. Hart and T. Honoré in Causation in the Law, Second Edition. Legal causation on AI has a close connection with legal responsibility on AI, which attracts many researchers recently. In legal causation on AI, relations between developing AI or using AI and estimations or directions of AI become problems. Then the author examined these relations by applying the theory of Hart and Honoré about the relation between a human act and the other human act. As a result, the author found three problems: ambiguousness of criteria for judgment of Hart and Honoré's legal causation theory, difficulties of deciding which is reliable decision human or AI, and difficulties of setting up standards of developing AI. Behind these problems, there is an upset of normative concept "normal" using criteria when examining causation, especially on AI. This issue arises from the difference of visions of the world between existing legal causation theory and AI. Then legal causation theory, which shares AI's vision of the world, is needed to consider.

The Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT) / National Council for Science and Technological Development (CNPq) financed the research project "Identification and Quantification of the Main Chemical Components of Mimosa scabrella Benthan, related to Forest Management Parameters". One of the objectives of the study was to determine the dynamics and structure of carbon fixation in reforestation, quantitatively and qualitatively. It examined permanent carbon storage in living trees using conventional reforestation practices aimed at producing diverse traditional products. The carbon density decreased with the diameter class of the stands : the carbon density in non-dominant trees was 310 kg/㎥, while it was 280 kg/㎥ in dominant trees. The production function for carbon assimilation C (ton/ha) was given by the model : C=I^2/(0.154397-0.011314×I+0.026268×I^2),where I is stand age (years). This permitted calculation of the productive structure. For continuous production, in the optimized regime, the forest in 30 rural farms should be divided into four age classes, each with the same area of production (167.84 ha) ; this would maintain a permanent stock of 13, 131 tons of carbon in the living population of Mimosa scabrella.農林水産研究情報センターで作成したPDFファイルを使用している。

The biomass of sago palms, growing in the natural forest of South Sorong, West Papua, Indonesia, was measured by fresh and dry weights, and the change in the biomass production in each organ/part with age was examined, using the number of leaf scars and leaves as an index of palm age (a total of 16 plants with 19–145 number of leaf scars and leaves). The biomass increased exponentially after trunk formation, especially after attaining 80 leaf scars and leaves and the fresh and dry weights of the above-ground part (shoot) at the optimal harvest stage (from bolting to the emergence of the inflorescence stage) were 3200–3700 kg and 1030–1230 kg, respectively. The trunk mainly contributed to the increase in the shoot biomass, and the leaf contribution was small. With increasing palm age, the ratio of leaves—mainly the petiole and leaf sheath—in the shoot biomass decreased, while that of trunk, mainly pith, increased. The fresh and dry weight ratios of the pith at the harvest stage to the shoot weight were 66% and 57%, respectively, and 80% and 71% to the lower trunk weight, respectively. Sago palms in the natural forest tended to have a lower dry matter percentage in the pith, a higher ratio of bark and a lower ratio of pith in the dry weight at the harvest stage than did the sago palms under cultivation conditions.

Objective Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) is speculated to worsen growth hormone (GH) hypersecretion in acromegaly and to be a cause of paradoxical increases in GH (PI-GH) during 75-g oral glucose tolerance testing (75-g OGTT). Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4is), which increase the circulating concentration of active GIP, are frequently administered to diabetic patients, including those with acromegaly. We aimed to determine whether or not the administration of a DPP4i increases GH concentration, especially in patients demonstrating PI-GH during a DPP4i-OGTT, in which a DPP4i was administered immediately before 75-g OGTT. Methods This prospective cross-sectional study was carried out on acromegalic patients admitted to Hokkaido University hospital between June 2011 and May 2018. The participants underwent both 75-g OGTT and DPP4i-OGTT. For those who underwent surgery, immunohistochemical staining and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the GIP receptor (GIPR) were performed on the resected pituitary adenomas. Results Twenty-five percent of the participants had PI-GH confirmed (3 of 12 cases). Two of the three participants who demonstrated PI-GH exhibited higher circulating GH concentrations during DPP4i-OGTT than during OGTT. The increase in plasma glucose was reduced during DPP4i-OGTT compared to during 75-g OGTT, suggesting that the increase in GH during DPP4i-OGTT was due not to high glucose concentrations but instead increased GIP caused by the administration of DPP4i. The adenoma from one participant with PI-GH displayed positive immunostaining for GIPR and a higher GIPR messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression than the others. Conclusion DPP4i may enhance the GH secretion response during glucose loading, especially in individuals with PI-GH.

<p>The purpose of this paper is to present which components of the kingdom the Hittite kings recognized as their own lands. In the analysis, the usages of the Hittite verb <i>maniyaḫḫ-</i> 'to govern' and the noun<i> irha-/arḫa</i>- 'border' are examined to understand the Hittite concept of territories and borders. Their usages show that, in the Hittite ideology, the state gods were regarded as heavenly owners of the Hittite lands, and the kings were given rule over these lands as divine deputies on earth. Those lands were centered in the Anatolian heartland, but they also extended to Carchemiš in Northern Syria. The Hittites, however, believed that they were not supposed to expand their territories unlimitedly, but rather protect them, since national borders were regarded as equal to the body of the state gods. </p>

Research on human-robot interaction is getting an increasing amount of attention. Since most research has dealt with communication between one robot and one person, quite few researchers have studied communication between a robot and multiple people. This paper presents a method that enables robots to communicate with multiple people using the “selection priority of the interactive partner” based on the concept of Proxemics. In this method, a robot changes active sensory-motor modalities based on the interaction distance between itself and a person. Our method was implemented into a humanoid robot, SIG2. SIG2 has various sensory-motor modalities to interact with humans. A demonstration of SIG2 showed that our method selected an appropriate interaction partner during interaction with multiple people.

A 26-year and 6-month-old male sika deer that was kept at the Showa Park, Tokyo, Japan, collapsed and died of severe disease wasting and severe tabefaction. Grossly, numerous masses, 0.3–1.0 cm diameter, were dispersed throughout the liver. The multiple masses were composed of tumor cells, which had hypochromatic nuclei and abundant faintly eosinophilic cytoplasm, arranged in nests of various sizes. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for cytokeratin, chromogranin A, synaptophysin and gastrin. Ultrastructurally, the cytoplasm of the tumor cells contained abundant membrane-bound electron-dense granules. A metastatic lesion was observed in the renal, hepatic and pancreatic lymph nodes. On the basis of these findings, this tumor was diagnosed as neuroendocrine carcinoma with metastases to the lymph nodes.

Microbiological diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is mainly performed through nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) and antigen test. Although NAAT is the standard diagnostic test, its use is limited by insufficient laboratory resources and long turnaround time. Point-of-care NAAT tests have been introduced to address these shortcomings, but their varied sensitivity and resource constraints remain a concern. Antigen tests require fewer resources but have low sensitivity. Nevertheless, low-sensitivity tests may be useful depending on the situation. In contrast, in some clinical phases of COVID-19, high-sensitivity tests may provide false-negative results. Therefore, the right testing strategy is needed for an accurate diagnosis. In this review, the characteristics and clinical applications of microbiological tests available in Japan (NAAT, antigen test, and antibody test) are discussed. The clinical diagnosis of COVID-19 is slightly complicated, and cases in which the infection spreads from asymptomatic infected individuals are many; hence, laboratory diagnosis is essential to prevent further transmission.

Background: Although the coronary artery calcium (CAC) score as measured with computed tomography (CT) is associated with cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in Western countries, little is known in Asian populations. Methods and Results: Three hundred and seventeen Japanese patients (205 men and 112 women) were followed in the study and they underwent both coronary angiography and CT for CAC measurements. The frequencies of angiographic coronary artery disease (CAD) were 5%, 36%, 76%, 80%, and 94% (P<0.001) and the needs for revascularization were 5%, 26%, 53%, 59%, and 69% (P<0.001) in patients with CAC scores of 0 (n=64), 1-100 (n=58), 101-400 (n=76), 401-1,000 (n=70), and >1,000 (n=49), respectively. In the average of 6.0 (range, 1-10) years follow-up period, 34 patients died including 13 from reasons of cardiac disease. In a Cox proportional hazard model after adjustment for age and sex, traditional coronary risk factors, previous myocardial infarction, and the need for revascularization, the hazard ratio for cardiac mortality in patients with a CAC score >1,000 was 2.98 (95% confidence interval: 1.15-9.40) compared with those with a CAC score=0-100. Conclusions: The CAC score has a predictive value for angiographical CAD and long-term mortality from cardiac disease in Japanese high-risk patients who undergo coronary angiography. In aquaculture and ornamental industries, copepods are recognized as preferred live feeds for marine fish larvae over commonly used organisms such as Artemia and rotifers. Marine fish larvae fed with copepods show better survival and growth. Despite obvious advantages of copepods as live feed, their use is still limited owing to low productivity and cost-efficiency when mass cultured. Copepods can be divided into free-spawner and sac-spawner (egg-carrying) according to their spawning style. In cultivation of egg-carrying copepod, a simple nauplii collection/harvesting method with low labor has not been established, because females carry the egg-sac until hatching. Manual collection of nauplii using a siphon hose and mesh-filters is a common method in copepod cultivation, but automation is necessary to reduce labor costs if copepods are to be viably cultured at a commercial scale. Recently, we devised a zooplankton bioreactor for rapid separation of free-spawner copepod eggs from adults in a tank. The automation collects eggs on a mesh filter in a water flow system which can also function as water exchange device. In the present study, we apply this bioreactor to egg-carrying copepod, and report the results from cultivation at laboratory-scale for 45 days. Species of Oithona are good candidates for live feed because their body size and biochemical composition are suitable for many marine fish larvae which have small gapes. Oithona oculata is widely distributed and a typical dominant species in coastal waters, and was chosen as target species of egg-carrying copepod in present study. 150 adult individuals of O. oculata were placed into a culture chamber which were immersed in a reproduction tank containing 3 L seawater. The culture chamber to retain the copepods has a 100-μm nylon mesh placed 5 mm above the bottom, while allowing passage of nauplii. The copepods were fed daily with a sufficient amount of Thalassiosira weissflogii and Isochrysis galbana and incubated at 28°C for 45 days. Produced nauplii in the reproduction tank were collected daily using water flow of 1.5 L min-1. The species abundance in each development, ovigerous rate and collected number of nauplii were measured daily. In the semi-continuous culture, the collected nauplii were cultured in maturation vessels and returned to the production tank after their maturation, and 45 days cultivation (four generations) was achieved. Total abundance was gradually increased from day 4 to day 20 and reached at 500 inds. L-1. Ovigerous rate varied from 0 to 88% during the incubation period. The maximum number of collected nauplii was 380 nauplii L-1 at day 5. The results obtained in present study suggest that the bioreactor can also be applied to egg-carrying copepod by optimization of the mesh size and the water flow velocity.
