We describe a method for rendering the surface of water, focusing on the problem of realistic color rendering. This method takes into account scattered and absorbed light, interreflection between objects located above the water surface and between those in the water, the shape of the bottom surface of the water and shadows cast on/under the water surface. It can be applied to point light sources with various characteristics of luminous intensity distributions and spectra. Two examples show the effect of the depth and quality of water on this color, comparing simulations with photograph of a pool. They suggest that this method is useful for designing lighting for scenery surrounding water

Blue LEDs are now mass-produced, and road traffic signal heads using LED systems are being used. LED signal heads have advantages such as energy savings and a long life. However, newly proposed LED signal heads have difficulty reducing problems such as the washout phenomenon. In this paper, we have proposed reducing the washout phenomenon of LED signal heads by using LED element 192 and the low-reflection black plate called a“phantom board”on a blank area between the elements. On the basis of light intensity distribution and luminance uniformity measurements, it was confirmed that the LED signal head we proposed satisfies the conditions described in the traffic signal lighting specifications of the National Police Agency. The visibility of the signal head was improved, as apparent from the before and after improvement pictures taken in the morning and the evening when the sun was at a low altitude and as a result of the phantom ratio.

Illuminance and exposure time are controlled to avoid rapid deterioration of museum objects. However, it is possible that the effect of harmful ultra-violet rapiation and visible light on objects is evaluated incorrectly by integrated illuminance. In this report, an evaluation method for light exposure levels for museum objects is discussed. Exposure tests of textiles with different light sources were conducted, and the progress of deterioration of the textiles was evaluated with two different light exposure level indexes : integrated illuminance and effective radiant exposure. The results show that effective radiant exposure can be used to evaluate light exposure levels causing damage to textiles more accurately. Furthermore, this paper proposes a new method that corrects illuminance and integrated illuminance. The new method easily improves the precision of evaluating light exposure levels with conventional integrated illuminance.

The clear sky light is generated through the process that the direct sunlight is successively scattered by the air and aerosol in the turbid atmosphere and repeatedly reflected by the earth's surface.The scattering-transmitting functions of the direct sunlight and the reflected light from the earth's surface were set up theoretically and the spectral power distributions of the clear sky light were estimeted.It became clear how following factors effect the change of the clear sky light respectively.(1) The scattering light by the air and that by the aerosol.(2) The first scattering light and the higher order scattering light than the first.(3) The reflected light from the earth's surface.
