This paper discusses our listening evaluations of the affective values of different percussive rhythms consisted bytwo kinds of MIDI timbre. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (pattern×BPM) were used to analyze. The resultsconfirmed that affective values changed with changes in rhythms. The applicability of this study to music therapy isalso examined.

People live in stress time with various problems: for examples, friendship, jobs and money. Therefore, it is thought that people should release the stress to keep the mind and body healthy, and to keep the life relaxed and wealthy. A robot therapy was utilized in this research to release the stress in such a daily life. In recent years, the robot therapy is attracting attention instead of animal therapy. The robot therapy is a psychotherapy by which a robot (such as pet robot and personal robot) is utilized to heal patient's mind. In this research, whether the effect of stress mitigation would be acquired by contact to a dinosaur type pet robot named "PLEO" or not will be investigated. First, shortened version of POMS on "Current feelings" is asked (about five minutes). Afterwards, subjects touch PLEO (about 15 minutes). Shortened version of POMS is asked again after touch and answer to the "Current feeling after begin to touch" and the questionnaire concerning PLEO (free description and selection type) are answered (about ten minutes). 77.4% of the subjects felt the pressures reduction by coming in touch with PLEO.

This paper considers a highly accurate extracting method for facial area and facial parts from a natural background based on moving and color information. To obtain facial parts, Q-element in the YIQ color model and Quesi-chrome (Qc) in the modefied HSV color model are mainly used. In our previous method, more than 90% of extracting accracy of facial areas was obtained. However, there still remain problems to be solved such as extraction accuracy and the evaluation of the facial area extracted. In this system a robust extraction system is proposed. From the computer simulation using 14,179 images, 97.10% for facial area and using 3,562 images, 92.70% for the mouth and 89.80% for the eyes are correctly extracted, respectively.

In the natural world, various crowds exist. Ants form a procession in the process of looking for food. Fish defend themselves from foreign enemies by crowding them. It is called "Swarm Intelligence" when a living thing takes a simple action to crowd in a unit and to do a complex and ordered action. For many controls of robots, Swarm Intelligence is advantageous. In this laboratory, a Swarm Intelligent robot has been researched. Two operations (approach and repulsion) have been achieved amongst three basic operations needed to achieve Swarm Intelligence. Concurrent motion insufficient in Swarm Intelligence to date was achieved with a geomagnetic sensor and communication system in this research. Moreover, to make the best use of the advantages of Swarm Intelligence, the function to deal was added to the breakdown. In addition, a geographical feature search system using a communication system is porposed.

This paper presents a software for DJ mixing. Most valuable point of this software is that there are no GUI turntables that the user has to control. Therefore, anyone can easily enjoy listening to the songs that this software mixes. There are two important processes in this method. First, the user acquires the beat positions from the song using sound wave GUI. Then, two songs that are selected at random are mixed automatically on this software, and a WAVE data of the mixed song is folded in the exclusive folder. It is only necessary that the beat positions are acquired by user. However this process is not complicated.

This study is a part of the investigation and the analysis of the market places in Tokyo during the transitional periods in the modern urban history. The purpose of this study is to describe the relationship between the characteristics of site and the function of buildings. First, the investigation is focused on west gate of Shibuya station about how long the commerce and the offices on the first floor had stayed as they were. Secondly, superposed the distribution of those commerce and offices from 1958 to 2004 along with the lapse of time, and analyzed those distribution. Showing the characteristic of site on Shibuya that has changed remarkably after the war by Tokyu and Seibu department store is essential to consider urban cities in the modernizing Japan.

This study is a part of the investigation and the analysis of the market places in Tokyo through the transitional periods in modern urban history. The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics and the developmental process of the urban space. The investigation and the analysis are focused on the area around the east gate of Shinjuku station through the functions of the commerce and office buildings. The buildings have generally several stories in height. However, as part of the analysis of urban space, the street level would represent an important characteristic of the buildings. Therefore, this study investigates and analyzes only the first floor, the street level that directly relates to the urban space. The commerce and office buildings are functionally classified in twelve types.

In recent society, global warming causes emission of carbon dioxide and raises remarkable issues. This study investigated the quantities of carbon dioxide on reinforced concrete buildings in the Tokyo metropolitan area during the manufacturing and transportation of materials to be used. Moreover, those quantities were compared between a basic RC building and a building using scallop shells. Scallop shells can fix carbon. As a result of calculations, scallop shells can contribute to the reduction total carbon dioxide quantities because they can store carbon dioxide on their own, and achieve the carbon-neutral theory, which states that quantities of emission and absorption of carbon dioxide are equal in the life cycle.
