In this paper I would like to discuss the identity of Puerto Rican People in the United States. Since 1898 Puerto Rico has been a US territory and since 1917 Puerto Ricans have had US citizenship. This fact has caused many Puerto Ricans to emigrate to the mainland. Now Puerto Rican emigrants' population on the mainland is on a level with the homeland, Puerto Rico. With the growth of Puerto Rican emigrants to the US, the image of being Puerto Rican has been changing. Now, not all Puerto Ricans speak Spanish and love the Puerto Rican dishes. We can say that Puerto Rican identity has been changing as society has changed.

本稿は、韓国の流動する人口移動を概観し、国際結婚を具体事例として定着の実態と支援策を検証することを目的とする。送り出しと受け入れ両面から描き出した流動の様態からは、在外同胞の還流が特徴として浮かび上がった。他方、農村地帯の深部に日を転じれば、フィリピン、ベトナムからグァテマラに及ぶ10カ国以上の結婚移民者の暮らしが営まれる文字通りの「多文化社会」の現出を見出すことができる。これらの現状を踏まえて韓国政府は外国人政策の基本法「在韓外国人処遇基本法」を制定した。サービス伝達体系の中枢として「結婚移民者支援センター」が整備され、就労支援を始めとする定着支援が動き出している。

This paper explores the studies of children and childhood in the western society in the Middle Ages. Since the publication of "Centurirs of childhood" in which Aries asserted that the concept of childhood had not been recognized in the western medieval society, many writers have supported the idea. Recent findings of medievalists' researches, however, show different results from Aries's. Pollock, Schultz and Shahar argue that the concept of childhood existed in the medieval centuries. This paper states how these researchers believe of the childhood, image of children and how children were treated at that time.

本稿では、1995年度のミス・アメリカに選出された、へザー・ホワイトストーン・マッカラム(Whitestone Mccallum, Heather)という米国の聴覚障害女性の物語を中心に描く。 本稿の目的は、第一に、彼女のミス・アメリカ獲得までの道のりを文献等によって整理し、第二に、それによって、彼女の著作、行動や生き方が、聴覚障害や女性学の世界にどのような影響を及ぼしたのかを考察することである。その際には筆者の学問領域でもある障害者福祉はもちろんのこと社会政策、ジェンダー視点も含めて考察を行う。This report presents the story of a hearing-impaired woman in the United States, Heather Whitestone Mccallum, who was elected Miss America 1995. This report summarizes her activities until winning the title of Miss America through a literature review. It also considers how her writings, behavior, and way of living influenced hearing-impaired persons and women's studies around the world. Considerations will include not only the issues of welfare for disabled persons, the author's field of study, but also social policy and the viewpoint of gender.

プエルトリコでは,女性問題解決に向けて女性たちが連帯することを最優先し,既成の政党政治の在り方に対し距離を置くようになった。このような勢力が,植民地に関する議論や政党政治の政策に大きく影響を与えた。しかし,米国本土におけるプエルトリコ女性においては,同様の政治的影響力を明確に見出すことはできない。しかし,マイノリティグループとして草の根運動のレベルで白人中心主義の政策や女性解放運動に異議を唱えている。また,プエルトリコとは異なる環境に生きるプエルトリコ人女性はそのナショナル・アイデンティティも現実に見合った多様なものに変容しており,それがこれまでのネイション,ステイト,アイデンティティの概念に新たな視点を提供している。

An examination on the reliabilities and validities of a Japanese form of the Test of Self-Conscious Affect-3 (short form) (Tangney and Dearing, 2002) was done using by the responses of 123 university students. Cronbach's α-coefficients of this form were slightly low, especially in Detachment (D) and Externalization (E) scales. Although the score of Prosocial Behavior Scale (PSB: Kikuchi, 1998) highly related to those of Guilt (G) scale of TOSCA-3, and Empathic Concern (EC) and Perspective Taking (PT) scales of Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI: Davis, 1998), significant relationships were not found, as expected, between the score of PSB and those of Shame (S) scale in TOSCA-3 and Personal Distress (PD) scale in IRI.

With the rapidly graying population in China in the late 20<th> century, elderly support and care has become a serious social problem in the urban communities, especially for those over 65. The problem is acute among the elderly who had worked and retired during the "Economic Planning Era" and also among the low income category as well as those with poor health or without any kin and kith to provide such care and services for this group of senior citizens. This paper examines the various issues and solutions of community-based in-home care for the elderly in Minquan JieDao, Dalian, China including an innovative approach for the care of the elderly poor in China.

不法移民労働者の問題は主に国家間、国内間の不平等な富の分配によって引き起こされる地球規模の現象である。アジアにおいても不法移民労働者の問題は(特に先進国にとって)国の社会経済、政治、社会福祉に大きな影響を与える問題である。本論文では日本を中心として、アジアの不法移民労働者問題の課題、今後の展望を考察する。本論文は(1)単純労働者、セックスワーカーを中心とした、アジアにおける不法移民労働者の労働形態とその現状。(2)日本やNIEs諸国へと不法移民労働者が流入してくる要因。(3)不法移民労働者に対する政府の法律と政策。(4)不法移民労働者の劣悪な労働状況や、雇用主による搾取。(5)アジア諸国の政府の対応。(6)この問題に対する国際社会とNGOの取り組みを論じ、続いて日本における不法移民労働者の現状と課題を考察する。不法移民労働者の問題に対しては柔軟な対応が必要となる。政府は不法移民労働者を斡旋するシンジケート、並びに不法移民を雇う雇用主に対する監督を強める必要がある。また、移民の労働形態や人権に関する多国間同士の協定を結ぶことも、不法移民を緩和するための有効な政策である。不法移民を軽減するために、もっとも重要なことは政府の政治的意思である。しかし、現時点ではそれは不十分なものであり、その結果この問題を助長させてしまっている。アジア各国の政府は不法移民の問題を真正面から捉え、取り組む必要がある。

This research note provides an overview of what care conference is about. It begins by positioning care conference. Care conference is defined to have important functions in care management as mediator, supporter and realizer, of client-oriented approach. The author points out sources of confusion around care conference to be clarified in improving the effectiveness and quality of future care conference. In the second section, the development of case management concept within the context of Japan is outlined. Issues of accessibility and availability of services, which call for strategic approaches to meeting client's needs and means, are brought up. Three conceptual models of care management (Minimum Model, Coordination Model, Comprehensive Model) originally proposed by Ross (1980) are presented. Each model reflects the phase of care management, functions and goals. Third, care-package as potential focal point of care conference is considered. As a proposal of conditions towards effective care planning, Hardcastle et al. (1996)'s conceptualization of SMARRT is mentioned. SMARRT stands for Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic, Result Oriented and Time Specific. Care conference can be viewed as decision making stage of care planning in the process of care management. Care-package as home-care service plan can be one of the care plan themes to be discussed and explored. As the term speaks to itself, care management is managing care as a whole rather than case-by-case. Thus, care conference is holistic and cohesive in nature. Defining significance of care conference, then, is necessarily multiple dimensioned by the webs of human relations of individuals involved in and through the process of care conference. As the forth section, the significance of care conference is delineated in relation to client, client's families, care providers, care manager, service providers and social resource of the community. Finally, the view of care conference as collaboration among teams of multidisciplinary professionals is pursued. Teams can be classified into client team or manager's provider group, network association team and formed teams (Ovretveit 1993). Recognizing care conference as an essential procedure of care management and examining team relational patterns can contribute to make care conference more effective. As a conclusion of the research note, key issues of care conference in relation to the implementation of the new system are briefly pointed out. In addition, future necessity of developing theoretical framework of care conference is proposed.

This research note examines three studies on care managers' professional understanding of care conference and discusses the content and process of care conference under the new Health Insurance Act. The studies outlined here sequentially follow the implementation of the Act and focus on different groups of care managers. The first field research looked at those who have passed the official examination before the new Act. The second was conducted two years after the new Act and involved those who were in practice. The third highlighted those who actively participated in the training opportunity. One of the findings shared among the three studies is that the care managers' understanding of care conference was at the developing stage. Their further understanding of the significance of care conference holds the key to their professional growth and improvement in their practice.
