科学技術振興機構バイオサイエンスデータベースセンター(NBDC)では,バイオインフォマティクスに関する人材育成のための新たな仕組みを検討するにあたり,2013年1月にアンケート調査を行った。この分野の人材を取り巻く現状や,必要とされている人材像,ならびに人材育成を進めるうえで留意すべきことを把握するためである。回答者のほとんどが人材が不足していると回答した。また,必要としている人材像については,「自分で生物実験系(ウェット)の研究開発を行い,新しい情報技術などを開発できる人材」が最も多い回答となった。また,人材不足の理由として,キャリアパスの未確立が指摘された。

All statisticians are expected to produce statistical outcomes of high quality and reliability. To ensure reliability in statistical performance and outcomes and to meet societal expectations, certain standards of conduct (SOC) must be established such that individual statisticians embrace their own principles and so that the community of statisticians as a whole functions with more self-control.In 2008, the Biometric Society of Japan began revision of the code of conduct, and the working group drafted an SOC. This particular draft re.ected the opinions of statisticians and the basic concepts which aligned well with ethical guidelines of the American Statistical Association and the International Statistical Institute. As forced guidelines rarely result in full compliance and increased ethical conduct, the SOC offers a framework to encourage individual biostatisticians to establish and hold their own principles and to act responsibly with integrity.The SOC comprises a preamble, mission statement, values, ten principles and background information. The draft SOC was approved by the Council of the Biometric Society of Japan in November 2013.The SOC will help statisticians improve their capacity to perform sound statistical practices, improve the working environment, cultivate the next generation of statisticians with professionalism, and acquire societal trust.

科学技術振興事業団(JST)は,日本の電子ジャーナルサイトが,他の電子ジャーナルサイトやデータベースとのリンクを効率的に行うために,JSTリンクセンターを開発し,2002年9月より運用を開始した。JSTリンクセンターの中核となるデータベースであるリンクマスタ,リンク情報を管理するためにJSTリンクセンターに登録されたコンテンツに対して付与されるJOI(JST Object Identifier),引用文献の自動解析等を中心にJSTリンクセンターの仕組みについて述べる。また,JSTリンクセンターの利用イメージをJ-STAGEからPubMedへの引用文献リンクを例に挙げて紹介する。

バイオサイエンスデータベースセンター(NBDC)は,独立行政法人科学技術振興機構(JST)に平成23年4月に設置された組織であり,ライフサイエンス分野のデータベースの統合を推進している。NBDCでは,Integbioデータベースカタログ,生命科学データベース横断検索,生命科学系データベースアーカイブなどのサービスや,ファンディングによって開発されたサービス(新着論文レビュー,領域融合レビュー,統合TV,TogoDoc,BodyParts3D/Anatomography,生物アイコン,Allie,inMeXes等)をポータルサイトから無償で公開している。本稿ではNBDCの取り組みと各サービスを利用した医学関連データベースへのアクセス方法やツールの活用例を紹介する。

Eugenics can be defined as a science which deals with the improvement of hereditary qualities of human beings through scientific breeding. Today, facing the new age of scientifc technology, particularly life-manipulating technology, we feel an urgent need to pay attention to the historical significance of eugenics once more. For from this word, eugenics, we are reminded of the Nazi's inhumane cruel act, which we should absolutely not repeat in the future. It's quite natural for us to condemn the Nazis for their crimes, but on the other hand, as a backdrop, we must clarify objectively what eugenics was and how it originated in Europe about the turn of the century. Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919), a famous zoologist from Germany, was also well known as a social Darwinist and played an important role at an early stage in the history of eugenics. From the abovc-mentioned viewpoint, this paper will examine his eugenic thought and clarify its characteristics.

We daily use the public transportation system such as trains, buses or streetcars, to go to the office, school, shopping, etc. In the inside of these cars, the passengers are required tacitly to feign inattention to one another. For they just happen to be there, for a short time, as strangers. From the viewpoint of communication in the public sphere in the city, this rule is very important to keep our relations smooth, but it is not strictly formulated. Recently we are often annoyed in the cars by behaviors and disturbances such as talking over a mobile phone, noise leaking out of a mobile stereo, people sitting directly on the floor, people putting makeup on, etc., feeling that this is a violation of the tacit rule in the public sphere. But people who behave so assert that they obey the rule of inattention and cannot understand why they are blamed. There must be a misunderstanding. By analyzing some typical examples of the nuisances, the true meaning of this rule will be shown. This paper will clarify, what this tacit rule is -historically and sociologically-, why the above-mentioned behaviors are against the rule, and particularly what kind of effect the new mobile medium has on human relations in public.

科学技術振興機構(JST)が継続的に収集している国内の科学技術関連資料(9,098誌)について電子化の現状を明らかにするため,出版者サイトおよび国内のアグリゲータ機関からの全文情報の提供状況を調べた。調査の結果,3,558誌(39%)の全文が電子的な状態で提供されていることがわかった。電子化されている3,558誌について,出版団体,資料の種類,分野別に分析を行った。科学技術関連資料のうち,学術誌・学会誌の電子化率は47%であった。
