Ultra-high definition (4K) imaging allows us to achieve considerably higher image quality than would high definition (HD) imaging. The present study examined how 4K and HD imaging could influence subjective impressions of movies differently, in association with the quantities of motion and fields of view of these movies. We found that stronger impressions regarding comfort and impact were evoked for 4K movies with smaller quantities of motion and medium field of view. Stronger perceptions of impact occurred for HD movies with larger quantities of motion and larger field of view. HD movies also gave stronger impression regarding dynamics regardless of motion quantities. Additionally, HD movies down-converted from 4K movies tended to induce higher impressions regarding evaluation and comfort in some situations. These results suggest that subjective impressions of movies are influenced by the differences in resolution images, as well as interactions between imaging types and characteristics of movie contents.

This study aims to develop a method that enables the person to accept recommended make-up looks positively as the make-ups looking suit them. Participants made up with a make-up simulator using face images otherized from their self-face perceived as a different person’s face so that they have a holistic view of their self-faces. After repeating make-up on the modified faces, their impression on the recommended make-up style was improved. However, participants who repeated made-up on the original self-face did not show the improvement of impression. This result supports the possibility that the intervention of make-up on a modified self-face could improve voluntary positive acceptance of the make-up change.

In relation to the recent development of ultra high definition imaging technique (4K) that have quadruple amount of pixels relative to high definition imaging (HD), it has been reported that observer’s subjective impression differ between these imaging. The present study examined how differences in resolution (4K and HD imaging) influence subjective impressions of movies in association with movie contents (natural/artificial objects) and fields of view (wide/medium/narrow) (Exp1). We also investigated the effects of the quantities of motion on subjective impressions of movies in different im-ge resolutions with the flame rate higher (59.94 fps) than the previous study (23.98 fps) (Exp2). We found that 4K movies, as compared to HD movies, induced stronger impressions regarding evaluation and comfort especially when they were presented with natural scene and/or larger field of view. It was also shown that 4K movies with higher flame rate induced stronger impressions regarding desirability and comfort regardless of motion quantities, contrary to the previous finding that 4K movies with the larger quantities of motion gave observer lower impression regarding desirability and comfort than HD movies. These results demonstrate that the differences in image resolution could modulate subjective impressions of movies in accordance with the differences in movie contents, fields of view, and flame rate. Moreover, the current findings suggest that there exist some desirable conditions under which the ultra high definition imaging could effectively enhance observers’ subjective impressions of movies.

分岐鎖アミノ酸がストレス下の培養細胞に対し、細胞死抑制効果を持つこと、細胞内ATP濃度低下の抑制効果を持つこと、が明らかになった。また、分岐鎖アミノ酸を網膜色素変性モデル動物や緑内障モデル動物に投与することによって、視細胞変性や網膜神経節細胞死が抑制されることが明らかになった。網膜色素変性モデル動物では、分岐鎖アミノ酸投与によって、網膜の機能低下が抑制されることが明らかになった。分岐鎖アミノ酸は、小胞体ストレスの抑制や細胞内ATP濃度低下の抑制、mTORシグナルタンパクの活性化を介して、細胞死抑制効果を示していた。分岐鎖アミノ酸は、眼難治疾患の新たな治療法になる可能性がある。

Presently we often think that various problems in educational environment, such as bullying and truancy, result from the dilution of human relations in our daily lives. In such contexts, we tend to think that the concept of relation is something substantialsomething we can actively and manipulatively deal with. However, in order to grasp the invisible aspect of the relation, we should take a different approach. This article casts new light on the concept of relation by reexamining Weil's idea about μεταξν. By using the Greek preposition μεταξν as a noun, she shows us the importance of "medium" or "mediation" in our encounters with the other whom we may not recognize easily. Such encounters put us into the state of confusion and conflict. It is the function of μεταξν that gives us energy to tolerate it. In the following, first, our daily lives will be discussed as the state of oblivion of relation. Next, examining her usage of μεταξν, another possibility entailed by the concept of relation will be revealed.

他者の運動が自身の運動に及ぼす影響を調査するために、他者の運動の観察による印象評定についての研究を更に進めた。更に複数の他者の動作を知覚する際の視覚的特性を検討した。平成23年度の本研究員の成果は以下の通りである。(1)受け渡し動作における丁寧さの評定:本研究では人が物体を他者に渡す際の渡し方について、丁寧さの印象に関わる要因について検討し、特に受け手の性別による違いについての影響を分析することを試みた。被験者は渡し手が丁寧に物体を差し出す場合と普通に物体を差し出す場合のビデオ映像を観察し、各動作について印象評定項目に回答した。印象評定項目得点の分析の結果、受け渡し動作について丁寧さの印象を判断するために男性は女性に比べると運動の特性や機能的側面により敏感で、女性ではその魅力といった対人的な特性を重視する傾向にあった。この成果は今年度開催の国際学会KEER2012において発表され、発表内容は同学会論文誌に掲載される予定である。(2)他者の歩行方向判断における周囲の人間の動作の影響の検討:集団の中で特定の他者の運動を特定する際の知覚の特性について、周辺視野で複数の物体が固まって提示されると個々の物体の同定が困難になるというクラウディング効果を利用して研究を行った。実験では歩行している人間の関節運動情報のみから構成されたバイオロジカルモーション(BM)刺激を複数体、周辺視野で観察させ、その中の1体の歩行方向を判断させた。その結果、観察者はターゲットの歩行方向を正しく回答することが困難になった。更に、ターゲットとなるBMの歩行方向の回答は、近接する妨害BM刺激の歩行方向の影響を受けた。以上から、人が他者の動作を認識する時には対象に近接する人間の動作から妨害を受けかつ動作の影響をも受けるということが示唆された。この成果は今年度開催の国際学会ECVP2012において発表される予定である。
