In order to investigate the effect of indoor sound environment in a classroom on learning efficiency, laboratory experiments were conducted. In the experiment, the percentage of correct answers of each task, subjective judgment on degree of disturbance and the power level of frontal midline theta rhythm (Fmθ) were measured under the three types of sound environmental conditions (no-noise, air-conditioning noise, talking noise) in anechoic room. From the result, it was confirmed that the sound environment condition significantly change the percentage of correct answers, the subjective judgment on degree of disturbance and the power level of Fmθ for listening task and proofreading (under the acoustical condition of signal to noise ratio (SNR) 0 dB). Furthermore, the possibility of improvement on learning efficiency by amplifying speech level was investigated. From the result, it was suggested that the amplification of speech signal level decrease the influence of sound environment in classrooms on learning efficiency.

In this study, the relation between the thermal environment and the thermal comfort of occupants in a main line vehicle in the summer was investigated. At first, to understand the characteristics of the thermal environment in a main line vehicle, a field survey was conducted by measuring the temperature and humidity in regular passenger services from the morning to the night. The observation range of the temperature was from 23°C to 28°C, and that of the humidity was from 38%rh to 68%rh. Then, to obtain the fundamental data about the occupants’ thermal comfort, a subjective experiment in which 44 subjects in total participated was carried out. The subjects rode a main line vehicle stationed at a rolling stock center, and they experienced the temperature changing approximately in the range observed in the field survey and answered the questionnaires about their thermal comfort. Furthermore, the relationships between the thermal indices called PMV/PPD and the subjective evaluation values were analyzed. As a result, it was indicated that the error of the PPD in predicting the percentage of dissatisfied subjects became large in the range PMV>0, where the effect of the sweat sensation became significant. However, the PPD agreed well with the actual percentage of people who reported to have the feeling of ‘slightly cold’, ‘cold’ or ‘slightly hot’, ‘hot’. Our results suggest that the PPD can be used as an index of the variability of thermal sensation, but not as an index of thermal comfort in a main line vehicle in the summer; in order to use the PPD as an index of thermal comfort all the year around, it should be corrected taking into account the seasonal characteristics of the relation between the PMV and the actual percentage of dissatisfied occupants.

A survey to investigate environmental behavior difference between the period of programmedblackout (March of 2011)and one month after the finish of the blackout (May of 2011)hasbeen performed. Three respondent groups and three behavior groups are obtained by clusteranalysis of the questionnaire data of environmental behaviors. The positive people forenvironmental behaviors do almost of all listed behaviors, the moderate people do two thirds ofthe behaviors, and the negative people do one third of the behaviors. It has a tendency that thenegative people think public offices have responsibility for environmental conservation, andhave less knowledge of ecorogical information.

The government of Japan has developed a plan to promote cycling in response to recent increase in cyclist. The plan includes the use of a bicycle for tourism and daily transportation on riverside road; however, local governments are mainly responsible for implementing the plan and maintenance of the cycling road. The purpose of this study is to obtain knowledge to help determine a maintenance policy by understanding the impressions of cyclists. Here, we have conducted a field test using the caption evaluation method for the cyclists in tourism and daily transportation on the Kinugawa Cycling Road.

In this research, we conducted an interview survey using the evaluation grid method with elements of additional signs posted at the station as elements. As a result, we clarified the evaluation structure of preferable additional signs for users in the station and extracted considerations to be addressed for a better sign plan. The findings obtained are summarized below. · From the perspective of evaluating the additional sign of the station user, the four perspectives of "time reduction", "sense of security", "fatigue reduction" and "reliability" came up in this survey, and we found that these four factors are important. ·In order to raise the credibility of additional signs it is important to make it permanent rather than handwritten or handmade. ·In order to realize the movement smoothness contributing to above the three high-level concepts of "time reduction", "feeling of security", and "feeling of fatigue", “ease of finding" and "ease of judging the direction to the destination" is important. ·In order to achieve "ease of finding", "expression on the board surface itself and contents in the board" and "proper sign arrangement within the view" are important. ·The contents and directions drawn on the additional sign are easy to understand, making it easier to understand intuitively, and as a result it is easier to judge the direction of the destination. As a concrete design method of the "easy to understand contents and directions", " expression about contents in the board " and "proper sign arrangement on the plan of the station." are important. Compiling also the knowledge obtained in the past research, there were things that could be useful knowledge not only for additional sign but also for official sign , as described below. ·It is important to show the information that we want to emphasize in the sign beyond the height of the line of sight. ·The size of letters on the signboard surface and the posting height of the sign influence "attractiveness". ·"Enhancing movement smoothness" by the additional sign leads to an increase in the comfort of stations such as spiritual clearance and convenience as a result. We are considering "preference" from the results of an interview survey using elements of additional signs in this research. But from now on, based on the fact that differences in purpose affect the evaluation on the same sign, we want to explore better information provision methods for station users by considering the design and planning method each use purpose of the signs, such as assuming the situations at the time of using the station or conducting experiments using different elements.

In order to investigate an influence of indoor sound environment in office on knowledge creative activity, subjective experiments were conducted in our study. In this experiments, subjective evaluations on “ease of meeting”, “quietness of sound environment” and “listening difficulty of speech” in two different types of group meetings (decision-making meeting and discussion to think of creative ideas) were measured under five types of sound environmental conditions (no-noise LAeq, 5min 38 dB, ambient noise (conversation noise) LAeq, 5min 40 dB, 45 dB, 50 dB, 60 dB) in a meeting room of the university. From the results, in regard to “quietness of sound environment”, we found that subjects start feeling noisy (not quiet) in sound environmental condition of ambient noise 50 dB, and that of 60 dB have an increased “listening difficulty of speech”. In the ambient noise 50 dB, “ease of meeting” was the highest evaluation for discussion to think of creative ideas among these experimental conditions. Furthermore, to investigate psychological factors related to ease of meeting, multiple regression analysis was performed using the data obtained from subjective experiments. These results of multiple regression analysis show that a quiet sound environment is not necessarily desirable in discussion to think of creative ideas. It was found that very quiet sound environment decrease the evaluation of “ease of meeting” in discussion to think of creative ideas. Thus, it was suggested that recommended indoor sound environmental condition to conduct discussion to think of creative ideas was ambient noise 50 dB.
