The rate of young people leaving their jobs has increased in recent years. One reason given for this is their failure to develop interpersonal relationships in the workplace. We think educators must cultivate young people's communication skills and the ability to work in teams. This paper examines modern youths' interpersonal motivations and conforming behaviors. We conducted questionnaire research with 148 university students to obtain basic psychological data that we hope will enable us to support them in constructing smooth interpersonal relations. The analyses showed that interpersonal motivations had an influence on conforming behavior. One of the interpersonal relationship styles, conforming to others overtly, has led to difficulties in and dilution of reliable relationships. These characteristics may negatively affect interpersonal relationships in the workplace. Understanding the importance of interpersonal relationships and achieving self-understanding might help young people to develop healthier interpersonal relationships. In addition, we hope that these results will be helpful to those working to support young people in choosing and establishing careers.

Computer-dating, the meeting with others through the Internet, has proliferated for several years. The aims of this study are (a) classifying the purposes of computer-dating usage and (b) investigating the computer-dating users' behaviors and interpersonal relationships (i.e., how many people they contact, how much they are satisfied, and how long they continue to use it). Then it might be expected that (c) they are related with the level of the users' loneliness. Twenty-six participants, who have used computer-dating, were recruited through the Internet and completed questionnaires that examined their loneliness, purpose of computer-dating usage and items regarding usage of computer-dating. The results showed: (1) there were two different types of purposes, "making relationship" and "conversation," and (2) the more loneliness they had, the higher "making relationship" purpose they had. In addition, (3) the purpose for "making relationship" promoted the later interpersonal behaviors on computer-dating.

The authors collected questionnaire data concerning conditions of multipurpose spaces set up in public elementary and junior high schools at the end of March 2006. The results showed that on average about 30% of all the schools had the multipurpose space though regionally the rate was different. And between the elementary schools and junior high schools, the rates of having the multipurpose space, size, and concepts of local administrations were different. We also saw that the number of the newly set up multipurpose spaces is decreasing reflecting the recent economic depression and the decrease of the number of pupils and students. Multipurpose space is indispensable for the teaching activities based on the new educational outlook. The activities can not be fully developed by only applying the excessive classrooms to the multipurpose spaces. To advance the set-up anew, promotion of remodeling as well as new extention and reconstruction of school buildings are needed, and therefore, the research into the mode of remodeling for the desirable multipurpose space will be a matter of importance.

Quedlinburg, in the state of Sachsen-Anhalt, was a capital of German kings and Holy Roman emperors at the time of the Saxonian ruling dynasty. The city had prospered as a trading town since the Middle Ages. The numerous high quality timber-framed buildings range from the 14th century to the Modern Ages. The variety of their construction methods and decoration makes Quedlinburg an exceptional example of a medieval German town. The author traces the architectural history of this town and is of the opinion that the Collegiate Church of St Servatius (c.1070-1129) is a faithful successor to Ottonian architectural style and an outstanding example of this type of building.

Changing values in contemporary society confront educators with complex, multi-faceted demands. These changes in society make necessary a reform of school governance and management. Now, more than ever, we need competent and able teachers. Effective teacher training and professional development is essential. Especially important is self-study by teachers themselves, and it is necessary that school-based, in-service training programs promote teachers' self-study and guide teachers in recognizing the importance of such self-study. School-based, in-service training for teachers must be regarded as a part of teachers' regular work. It is important this training should enable teachers to understand the importance not only of school-based training, but also of self-study. This paper examines actual cases of school-based, in-service training and focuses on how they have influenced teachers' development and educational activity. The study suggests that the effectiveness of in-service training depends on teachers' attitude towards the training. In light of this, a major concern is that in-service training administered by the board of education (for example: teachers' induction courses and 2nd/3rd/6th/10th year follow-up courses) may not be as effective as it should be. In the prefecture here studied, the board of education administers several kinds of in-service training: job-specific training such as student guidance and educational counseling, as well as subject-based training and curriculum, and mandatory in-service training once every 3 years. Such training should be informed by and relevant to the changes in contemporary society. Further, individual teachers need to make use of the contents of the training within the context of the actual conditions and assignments in their own schools, and the training itself must aid them in applying what they have learned to their individual situations. This investigation makes it clear that the training administered by the board of education is not being used effectively. It is important that school-based, in-service training be employed extensively and effectively. To that end, the leadership of vice-principals or chief supervisors is invaluable in creating an environment that ensures relevant and effective training. Such leaders must take responsibility for creating effective training programs.
