Francis Bacon, who was by nature a reformer, could not content himself with the traditional philosophies and learnings. He intended to reform them and published Instauratio Magna (The Great Instauration) in 1620. Besides this book, his thoughts are clearly stated in many works between 1603 and 1609. Bacon set a great value on Natural Philosophy which had been degraded to the offices of a servant, and appraised her to be the great mother of learnings. For the control and mastery of nature, he advocated using the true induction. Though his inductive method did not bring any discoveries, Bacon's ideas were able to exert much influence upon other thinkers, especially upon French Encyclopedists, through the image of progress.

In this paper, we proposed the real-time control system on non-real-time OS using the micro computer with USB interface. Generally, it was expensive and difficult to construct the real-time control system. However, we achieved proposed system inexpertly by using the micro computer as a scheduler.The characteristic are no special interface for the control software like MATLAB and the real-time control performance on the non-real-time system. Moreover, we developed the 2-link robot arm to evaluate the performance of the proposed system. As a result, the proposed system operated in the low-speed area.

Acceptable limit for delay in response of computers was investigated, by means of an experiment in which 27 subjects played specially designed Othello game with delay in response. Subjects are split into two groups, one of which consists of 5 impatient subjects with patience rate with delay in response below 25%, and the other one of which consists of 22 subjects with patience rate over 70%. Further 22 subjects are split into two groups, one of which consists of 11 subjects with patience rate of 75〜97%, and the other one of which consists of 11 subjects with patience rate of 100%. Acceptable limit of delay time of impatient group would be 2s because they can wait for the response of computer at clicks under only 13% to all clicks in case of delay time over 2s. Acceptable limit of delay time of medium group might be 3s, but even than they can wait for the response at clicks over 86% to all clicks.

At this moment, when Olympic Games are expect in Mexico City, in the course of this year, voices of criticism are being raised against rather poor results got by the Japanese during the Tokyo Olympics. Really some people go so far as to suggest that in view of the difference in physical strength, wholesale adoption of Weight System in all sorts of sports events would be the only solution enabling us to cope fairly with foreigners. Then, what was the scope and extent of the so-called difference in physical strength in any particular branch of sports ? In the following essay I shall try to give some light on that question, making use of an idea of what I should like to call "Volume of Physique" by way of a parameter for measurable physical strength. Though I use the term "volume", I don't mean to include in my survey those bullcalf or fatty types, but I shall confine the object of the study to "steel-like" physique that has gone through severe, all-round training.

Laser-induced-fluorescence (LIF) is a useful technique to examine structures and conditions of photosystems, and reactions of them to intrinsic and extrinsic environments of leaves. In this investigation, fluorescence spectra were measured using intact leaves of rice plants applied various amounts of nutrients and containing various concentrations of chlorophylls. The spectra were resolved into Gaussian components of fluorescence emitters by curve-fitting method, and the effects of nutrient deficiency on structures of photosystems and self-absorption of fluorescence within leaves were discussed.

シェイクスピアの戯曲には深甚な政治的観察がうかがわれる。彼は秩序の維持が社会の原動力であることを力説する。ルネサンス期のイギリスに充満した権力闘争を強く非難している。浅薄な民衆迎合の日和見主義が国家の危機を招くと主張する。権力と大衆との不安定な関係に懐疑的な目を向けるのである。コリオレイナス、ジャック・ケイド、ブルータス、その他を考察の対象にして、シェイクスピアの政治観を探った興味深い論文である。
