It is necessary to make the system for the preservation and succession of KYO-MACHIYA in the historical centre of KYOTO. The purpose of this study is to know why MACHIYA inhabitants go to succeed to MACHIYA against the extra economical pressure and how MACHIYA will be. Therefore we found those who are proud of MACHIYA and asked them about their requirement of MACHIYA succession by questionnaire, and it made sure that they hope to succeed to MACHIYA and to live in there, while we could understand that the bigger pressure.to demolish MACHIYA in near future (probably half within 10 years).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of an intruder and partitions on personal space with reference domains of demonstrative pronouns and physiological responses. 1) The person's psychological territory could be expressed with demonstrative pronouns. 2) An intruder on personal space caused a decrease in the "kore" area and increase (p<0.01) in CV_<R-R> levels. 3) The "kore" area and BPmin tended to decrease (p<0.05) in the group who felt decrease in mental pressure because of setting a partition on personal space. 4) Mental pressure was not always in accord with the feeling of avoidance.

This paper deals with the mechanism of the Strong Earthquake Response Analysis Computer specially designed to obtain the linear and non-linear response of structures subjected to actual earthquakes of various intensity. The Strong Earthquake Response Analysis Computer (SERAC) is the Direct Current (Slow type) Analog Computer which can calculate the earthquake response of one to five mass-spring system (shear type) having linear and non-linear restoring force. Force-displacement relation in earch story spring has the hysteresis characteristics simulating the yielding of structural members. Kinds of response which can be obtained by SERAC are as follows: Relative displacement in earch story. Shear in earch story. Relative velocity in each story. Absolute acceleration of each floor. Yield excursion of each story. Overturning moment, etc. As an example, the response of two mass system subjected to El Centre earthquake (1940. NS. maximum acceleration 0.33g) is shown in the figure.
