Global Value chains (GVC) provide a new channel of innovation for firms participating in value chains or utilizing the value chain strategy to grow. Upgrading to high value added segments of GVCs step by step is a linear model of innovation. Our analysis on the Chinese firms involved in the value chain of the iPhone shows that the Chinese mobile industry has climbed up ladders of the iPhone value chain and performed relatively sophisticated tasks beyond simple assembly. In addition, by examining foreign value added and technology embedded in the smartphones of OPPO, Xiaomi and Huawei, we argue the Chinese smartphone vendors primarily follow a non-linear model of innovation, jumping directly to brand development before acquiring sufficient technology capacity. They have been focusing on incremental innovations and product differentiation by taking advantage of available technology platforms. The value chain strategy enabled them to overcome technology deficiency effectively and opened a short-cut to catch-up foreign rivals and evolve into leading smartphone makers in both domestic and foreign markets.

わが国では,ヒトiPS細胞の樹立が契機の一つとなり,再生医療や細胞治療(再生医療等)の研究と実用化の促進のため国を挙げた取り組みがなされている.特に再生医療等を支える医事・薬事の各種規制の抜本的改革が精力的に進められてきた.医事規制では,安全な再生医療等を迅速かつ円滑に患者に提供する目的で『再生医療等安全性確保法』が制定され,薬事規制では,『薬機法』において「再生医療等製品」が定義されるとともに,再生医療等製品の特性に応じた条件・期限付承認制度が導入された.しかし,実用化・産業化における開発・製造に関するコストなど解決すべき課題はまだ多い.特に米国では2016年末に21st Century Cures Actが成立し,日本の条件・期限付承認制度に類似した制度が設けられるなど,追い上げも激しくなりつつある.本稿では,大きく動きのあった再生医療等にかかる規制について国内外の動向と再生医療の現状と今後対応すべき課題について概説する.

「2ちゃんねる」は日本最大のオンラインコミュニティサイトである.ところが,そこに書き込まれる情報はときとして「便所の落書き」と揶揄されるように,一見すると意味のない言葉や記号にしか見えないものも多い.これは非常に奇妙な現象である.というのも,便所の落書きを見るために毎日数十万人もの人が訪れるとはとても考えられないからである.ではなぜ2ちゃんねるはあれほど盛り上がっているのだろうか.実は傍から見れば意味がないように思える言葉や記号のやりとりが2ちゃんねるのユーザには意味があり,これが2ちゃんねるが盛り上がる要因となっているのかもしれない.このような動機から本稿では,2ちゃんねるにおけるコミュニケーションの特徴に着目して,2ちゃんねるが盛り上がるダイナミズムを解き明かすことを目指す.特に,コミュニケーションの特徴として,メッセージのサイズや投稿数,返信率,投稿される早さなどの基本的な属性に加え,2ちゃんねるに特徴的な名無しと,2ちゃんねる語やアスキーアート(AA)などの定型的な表現技法に注目する.共分散構造分析により構築した「2ちゃんねるモデル」は,定型的表現傾向が議論発散傾向と議論深化傾向に及ぼす関係などを明らかにしている.

This study investigates the influence of strong southerly moisture flux on an extreme rainfall event over western Japan in early July 2018, by using a global atmospheric reanalysis dataset. During its peak period from 5 to 7 July, extensive and unprecedented rainfall observed along the well-defined quasi-stationary Baiu front was attributed to two branches of extremely moist inflow from the southern confluence into western Japan. One was a shallow southerly airstream enhanced by the surface North Pacific Subtropical High, and the other was a deeper southwesterly airstream accompanying enhanced convection over the East China Sea. Both the vertically integrated moisture flux from the south and its convergence into western Japan reached the highest levels for 60 years due to an overwhelming contribution from the intensified southerlies. Anomalous diabatic heating associated with the active convection over the East China Sea acted to maintain the southwesterly moisture flux by inducing low-level cyclonic potential vorticity anomalies. During the rainfall event, a strong meander of the upper-level subtropical jet associated with the intensified surface North Pacific Subtropical High accompanied an amplified upper-level trough over the Korean Peninsula, which acted to induce ascent dynamically along the Baiu front.
