In this paper, we develop an automatic image sonification system using auditory icons and their stereophonic presentation. We evaluated the effects of scene sounds and action sounds on the understanding of the scene and the sense of presence. The results showed that the scene sounds contributed to the understanding of the scene and the sense of presence and that action sounds also improved the sense of presence. On the other hand, it was confirmed that object sounds alone can convey scene information in images and have a high index of sense of presence. Our sonification system is expected to provide not only a more immersive experience for sighted people through images but also an opportunity for people with visual impairments to share the experience through social networking services (SNSs).

Peripatellar fat pads are intracapsular extrasynovial adipose cushions that accommodate the changing shape and volume of articular spaces during movement. Variations in bone geometry, passive and active stabilization mechanisms and/or functional demands may lead to peripatellar fat pad abnormalities. While peripatellar fat pads may be affected a variety of conditions such as synovial inflammation, tumor and fibrosis, a mechanical origin should also be considered. Commonly, the clinical term “impingement” is used synonymously in the radiological literature to refer to three distinct entities of structural peripatellar fat pad abnormalities: superolateral the infrapatellar fat pad (Hoffa fat pad) edema, suprapatellar fat pad edema, and prepatellar fat pad edema, implying a mechanical origin of these conditions. The aim of this pictorial review is to describe the normal anatomy of the extensor mechanism of the knee, and discuss the relation of patellofemoral maltracking to the above-mentioned peripatellar fat pad conditions based on current evidence.

The hypergeometric series, which forms the subject of this paper, has for a long time attracted the attention of mathematicians, comprising, as it does, a very large number of series of well known functions, and furnishing, in addition, the means of integrating a special class of liner differential equations of the second order. Euler was the first to give, in Actis Academiae Petrop., two general transformatric series of the same kind. These transformarions were afterward derived and proved in various ways by Pfaff, Jacobi and Gudermann. Moreover Gauss published in Comment. Soc. Gotting. (Tome II. a. 1812.) his investigations on this series. It is well known that this paper contains, in a brief space, not only a large number of the fundamental properties of the hypergeometric series, but also the thoroughly complete theories of two transcendental functions closely allied with it, and it's application to continuted fractions and definite integrals. This paper is however only the first installment of a greater memoir which has not as yet been published. Especially it lacks the comparison of such hypergeometric series with each other, in which the last element x is different. This will consequently be the chief object of the present paper. The numerous applications of the formula which we shall derive, are chiefly concerned with elliptic transcendents, a large number of which is contained in the general hypergeometric series. The results obtained by Gauss in the above-mentioned paper will, wherever it is necessary, be assumed as known. We shall also retain the notations introduced by Gauss.

1. A synergistic action of vitamin E for insulin with respect to glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis has been demonstrated in diaphragm from protein-depleted rats.2. Vitamin E added as a dietary supplement brings about increases in pyruvic acid accumulated during incubation of the diaphragm, but no synergistic action for insulin in this respect was found.3. The findings are discussed, and it is suggested that the action of vitamin E invo ves the synthesis of ATP.

私は,企業家研究の領域において,社会関係資本と社会ネットワークの概念を用いた研究を行いたいと思う者達を対象にして,これらの概念や原理についての批判的なレビューを行う.私はいくつかの興味深い研究課題とそれに応える方法論について描く.第1に,社会ネットワークを介した社会関係資本の力を示したい.そして,社会ネットワークの潜在的な力は,社会文化的な制約条件のために実現されないことがあることも示す.同類指向,社会的境界,制限された合理性という概念は,社会ネットワークについてのこうした制約条件を検討し,一般的に捉える上で役立ち,そして実際の観察結果を経験的に理解する枠組を与えてくれる.私は,それぞれの概念について論じながら,社会関係資本論と社会ネットワーク論のこれまでの研究を振り返って,これまでの理論的貢献と実証的発見について検討する.

"針聞書"は大阪地域に住んでいた医師によって作成された1568年の日付の日本の原稿です。 原稿には、それぞれ独自の名前を持つ63個の虫の絵が含まれています。 これらのワームは人体に住んでいて寄生虫のようです。 しかし、ワームの名前は空想的であり、ほとんどの名前は他の医学書には載っていません。 63の虫のそれぞれについて、患者の症状と病気の治療法についての簡単な説明があります。"針聞書"について真剣に研究した外国人研究者は他にいません。 私の研究の第一段階は"針聞書"を翻訳することです。 さらなる研究には、"針聞書"と同様の期間の他の日本の医学書との関係の調査が含まれます。

Genetically engineered animals can be produced quickly using genome editing technology. A new electroporation technique, technique for animal knockout system by electroporation (TAKE), aids in the production of genome-edited animals by introducing nucleases into intact embryos using electroporation instead of microinjection. It is difficult to confirm nuclease delivery into embryos after electroporation using the conventional TAKE method. We previously reported the successful visualization of fluorescently-labeled tracrRNA in embryos after electroporation Cas9 paired with the crRNA:tracrRNA-ATTO550 duplex. However, the amount of fluorescence signal from labeled tracrRNA in embryos did not correlate with the genome editing rate of the offspring. This study examined the visualization of Cas9 protein in embryos after electroporation and its correlation with the genome editing rate of the offspring using a fluorescent Cas9 fusion protein. The fluorescent Cas9 protein was observed in all embryos that survived following electroporation. We found that the efficiency of Cas9 protein delivery into embryos via electroporation depended on the pulse length. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the amount of fluorescent Cas9 protein detected in the embryos correlated with the genome editing efficiency of the embryos. These data indicate that the TAKE method using fluorescently-labeled nucleases can be used to optimize the delivery conditions and verify nuclease delivery into individual embryos prior to embryo transfer for the efficient production of genome-edited animals.

The aim of this study is to elucidate post-elastic mechanism and the nature of failure of a machine-made paper under the condition of uniaxial tensile or edgewise compression loading. In order to obtain a direct evidence of the inelastic deformation of the sheet related to its structural changes, observations were made both at the sheet surface and on cross sections of the sheet after reaching prescribed strain levels.In this study, the oriented 80 g/m2, and the 240 g/m2 NBKP machine-made sheets were used. The damaged sites, that is microcracks, on the specimen surface were clearly detected as bright spots, known as electron charging, under SEM observing conditions. From the preliminary test, it was found that these charging spots were not caused by artifacts, but were generated only by the applied external force. The damages occurring within the sheet under loading were counted by using a digitizer along a set of scan lines depicted on the enlarged photo mosaic, which covered the whole sectional view of the test specimen.As a result, the strain at elastic limit of the tested sheets was 0.2%, and the residual strain was increased proportionally as increment of the applied strain. The sheets always behaved as a orthotropic body such as a oriented-fiber reinforced material. This may suggest that mechanical properties for MD and CD highly depend on the amount of load-bearing fibers, thick-walled fibers, laid down in MD and CD, which correspond to the framework components within a sheet. On the other hand, the matrix components, such as thin-walled fibers, fines, loosened fibrils, and exudated hemicelluloses etc., should contribute to carry or to redistribute stress concentrated locally among the load-bearing fibers. As the strain increased into the inelastic regime of the stress-strain curve, partial debondings at the interfiber crossings took place and developed into the minute cracks. The number of the damages increased drastically in the inelastic region. As the strain level approached to the failure point, the fiber breakages began to take place, and they always occurred on the thin-walled fiber aligned parallel to the direction of loading. This damage-developing process was clearly observed on the CD specimen. Furthermore, the internal structure of a sheet also changed by means of the externally applied force. The bonding-ratio (BR) of specimen strained close to the failure point was approximately 7% less than that of the unstrained specimen.These experimental evidences strongly suggest that the post-elastic region of sheet deformation is characterized by the permanent interfiber deformation, accompanying with the partial debonding between the load-bearing fibers and the matrix substances, and the breakage of fiber itself.On the contrary, compression failure is a very localized phenomenon. The appearance of the failure zone shows pronounced out-of-plane deformation such as creases of bucklings. At the failure zone, fiber debondings and fiber bucklings were prominent, but there is no evidence of such damages even at the site 2 mm apart from the crease.

Heterodoxus spinigerによる刺咬性シラミ症と診断された1歳齢の雄犬において,サロラネル2.5 mg/kgを用いた単回の経口投与にて良好な治療成績を得た。投与後,急速な皮膚病変と掻痒の改善が認められた。治療後28日目の時点でも,皮膚検査の結果は基準範囲内であり,シラミは検出されなかった。本報告は,筆者の知る限りHeterodoxus spinigerによる刺咬性シラミ症と診断された犬に対してイソキサゾリンを用いて治療を実施した初めての報告である。
