A wide field of vision is important for driver safety and vehicle operability. However, the window area of vehicles is limited. Therefore, we developed head-tracked retro-reflective projection technology that displays vehicle blind spot information. The system enables the driver to observe the surroundings in the blind spot as if seeing through the inner wall of the vehicle. The system uses a head-mounted projector and multiple cameras. We describe the system design, the implementation of a prototype, and performance evaluation experiments. Early experiments showed that the system effectively displayed the blind spot information corresponding to the operator's looking around motion.

人間の視覚は色相の変化に敏感であるため,カラー画像の強調処理を行った場合,色相が保持されることが望ましい.色相を直接的に扱うためにはHSI色空間やCIELAB色空間等を利用する方法が考えられるが,工学的にカラー画像はRGB色空間やCMY色空間で取り扱われることが多いため,画像処理もこれらの空間内で行えると便利である.NaikらはRGB色空間での色相保存の条件を示し,これを用いた画像強調の方法を提案している.しかしながら,この方法には彩度が低下する問題があるため,この問題点を修正する方法が幾つか提案されている.本論文では,RGB色空間において色相を保持したまま彩度を調整するための一方法を提案する.提案手法では,井上らによって提案された彩度最大化の方法にガンマ補正を導入することで所望の彩度を得ることを試みる.実験結果により,ガンマ値を変更することで彩度が適切に調整できることを確認した.

衛星回線および運用の高効率化を実現したSNGシステムを開発した.多チャネル化による周波数効率の改善とSNGとしては初めて回線をIPネットワーク化したことで,IP伝送装置との連携等,利便性が大幅に向上した.また,一部の帯域にTDMA方式を採用し,車載局と固定局間のIP双方向通信を実現し,耐災性に優れた連絡回線(IP電話)を構築した.さらにこの回線を用いることで,衛星回線を通じて車載局からインターネット接続が可能となり,大災害発生時に公衆回線が利用できない場合でも,車載局が情報ハブとして機能することで報道制作等における利便性が大きく向上した.また運用面では,システムによる自動化を導入したことで大幅な効率化も実現した.

We describe a display calibration model that is suitable for liquid-crystal displays (LCDs). In conventional display calibration models, the spectral radiance of light emitted from the display is estimated using the data measured for each primary color based on the assumption of RGB channel additivity, however, this assumption does not hold for LCDs. With only a few measurements of the spectral radiance or tristimulus values, the proposed model accurately approximates the colorimetric characteristics of the display. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model, we used it to measure the RGB primary colors, the CMYK secondary and the tertiary colors. The colors were analyzed based on principal component analysis to identify the effect of channel interaction. The proposed model was found to be more effective than conventional models for the colorimetry of LCDs.

Voice activity detection is an important part of the development of speech functions for on-board car navigation and assistance systems. It is difficult to detect voice activity using only sound information in a vehicle environment that has a wide variety of sounds and noises. We propose an suitable image feature and integration method that can be used to develop a robust bimodal voice activity detection (VAD) systems using a driver's voice and facial images. We select the normal correlation value between sequential mouth images and the number of low-intensity pixels in mouth image, which we then used as the feature for VAD. We propose a system in which the discrimination function consist of the sum of weighted singles feature discrimination functions and combinations of logical addition and multiplication of singles feature discrimination functions. The experimental results show that the proposed sound and image features can be useful and that the proposed integration method has a 97% hit rate, which is 9 points better than the previous integration method at the point that false alarm rate is about 12%.
