The purpose of this study was to clarify the influence of different strings on the dynamics of Japanese Bow, and to investigate the relationship between the measured mechanical data and the feeling of shooter. Four strings, aramid fiber "Kevlar", "Technora", polyester fiber "Vectran", and hemp string were used for the shooting experiment by nine subjects. At that time, feeling data through questionnaires were collected. The results were summarized as follows: (1) in the logarithmic decrement of bending and torsional oscillation after release, hemp string was highest in this four strings, (2) the difference of fibers didn't have influence on frequency of the oscillation, (3) in the energy transmission efficiency, Kevlar, Technora and Vectran were about 69%, hemp was 67.7%, (4) it is also found that the feeling of shooter was related to the measured mechanical data significantly.

円形フランジ締結体に曲げ外力が作用したときの各ボルトに発生する軸力の増加分を推定する因子である曲げ内力係数を二次元弾性論および弾性床上のはり理論により解析する方法を示し、ボルト穴中心円直径が曲げ内力係数に及ぼす影響について検討している。さらにボルトに発生する曲げモーメントの影響を考慮した応力についても解析方法を示した。これらの結果を確かめるための実験を行い、両者はかなりよく一致することを示した。

The tribological properties of silicon with and without water boundary lubrication with silicon, silicon carbide and a diamond tip were studied and the following results were obtained. (1) The friction coefficient between silicon and silicon or silicon carbide tips is as high as μ=0.2〜1.0, with and without lubrication. Surface damage occurred due to the adhesion between similar materials. (2) When a diamond is used as the opposite tip, the friction coefficient is as low as μ=0.09〜0.16 without lubrication. With water boundary lubrication, the friction coefficient is as low as μ=0.07. Damage is not observed on surfaces either with or without water boundary lubrication. (3) To determine the reason why sliding with the diamond tip did not result in damage, stress analysis was carried out using the boundary element method for each combination of materials. The maximum Mises stress was observed inside the silicon and diamond bulk when silicon and diamond were tested. However, the maximum Mises stress for the silicon with silicon and silicon carbide with silicon combination was observed.

The first domestically-built mine type electric locomotive is said to be the locomotive used at the Ashio Copper Mine in Tochigi Prefecture, Kanto District. Wheel arrangement of this electric locomotive was 0-4-0, and built in 1893 by Ashio Copper Mine Works. Mechanical and electric engineer relation to this locomotive building was Mr. Kumazo Miyahara who graduated at Telegram Vocational Training School of Ministry of Communications. In addition to this locomotive, other two examples of mine type electric locomotive building are introduced. In the final section of this paper, significance of domestic building of mine type electric locomotive examples are discussed from the perspective of history of technology and mechanical engineering heritage.

In Japan, western technology was rapidly introduced from the last stage of the Edo era. However, a lot of examples of technology transfer failure were included in the process. This paper deals with the cause of failure of the Kamaishi national iron mill. Lack of the domestic pig iron demand and insufficient marketing research, the Kamaishi iron mill generated large amount of deficit and was the greatest failure at that period. Analyzing several remained documents, it was understood that Japanese engineers throw large raw ore into the furnace under operation, to make it blockade. It was the simplest way to avoid further financial loss, and to conseal serious carelessness of preliminary survey. Blockage of the furnace was not the main factor of the iron mill business discontinuance, however, it had significant meaning. It was useful to minimize the initial risk of the following private enterprise, which succeeded the iron mill management. And it had big influence in iron manufacture which had grown up to the Japanese key industry in modern ages.

There are no prediction methods of bearing fatigue life when ball bearing is used under the condition of contact ellipse being over shoulder. To enable this prediction there are two difficulties. The first is contact problem shifts from non-conforming contact problem to conforming contact problem because of large load. The second is there is no practical method for bearing life estimation under the condition like as edge load occurring, though there exist many decision methods about optimal crowning when edge load occurs. For each problem, authors have proposed each solution. Combining those methods, we propose the bearing life ratio estimation method under the condition of contact ellipse being over shoulder. To verify this method, we compare the calculation result with bearing life test result for 50 samples that have different 3 inner ring outer diameters. The both result agree well, therefore the validation of this method was achieved. Ahead of that, we propose improved solution to the first difficulty, and verify the contact pressure and shear stress by comparing FEA result with improved solution when contact ellipse being over shoulder. This solution has been used to estimate above-mentioned bearing life.

In order to clarify vibration characteristics of the horn and capillary system of an ultrasonic wire-bonder, measurements of resonance frequency and mode were carried out with the capillary-tip lightly pressed on simulated work pieces. The results were compared with those in the case of the capillary-tip free, obtained by the previous study, and differences caused by the contact of the capillary-tip with simulated work pieces were made clear. Present and previous results were also considered by theoretical analysis of natural vibration based on a model treating the horn and capillary as beams with tapered portions, and assuming that they were connected at one point.

Human reliability in a complex system has been studied to established the complete safety by analyzing the operator's performance in a control room of a nuclear power plant. In this paper, the connection of a mathematical model with the questionnaire to the plant designers and operators resulted in proposing a fuzzy tool for evaluating the quality of the recent automated control system. The present paper method is capable of calculating human performance by summing the weighted utility of attributes ; (i) this elicits the two dominant attributes with a modified fuzzy measures learning identification algorithm (FLIER) to describe the ill-defined man-machine system, (ii) FLIER reduces a set of attributes until human tasks will be represented clearly, (iii) a change in the performance is illustrated on the two-dimensional map of the dominant attributes with a function of the automated level, (iv) the designers and the operators decided the balance of the manipulated/automated phase on the after careful face-to-face communication.

In this paper, we elucidate the standard creep movement forms (S-shaped curve) of a snake, which is the typical locomotive movement shown by snakes. Serpentine curve in the constant steady state velocity and ex-serpentine curve in the constant steady state acceleration are derived for the uniform creep locomotion of the snake, through analyzing physiologically its muscle characteristics, Muscular force is also discussed for these two types uniform locomotive curves. The results proposed here are demonstrated by computer simulation to agree with previously reported experimental results (Y. Umetani and S. Hirose, Trans. of the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 10-5 1974, 513-518, in Japanese).

A double cavity half toroidal contimlously variable power transmission transmits input torque through a pair of variable units and changes its speed ratio by controlling attitude angels of four power rollers. One power roller among them is controlled by a hydraulic servomechanism and the others are followed it under the control principle of equal force transmission. Synchronization of four power rollers is guaranteed by safety wires, however nonlinearities of friction force on the control pistons or pressure delay in hydraulic lines due to air mix or pipe length cause instability of the speed ratio servomechanism through the safety wires. This paper focuses the relation between the synchronization and stability of the CVT by making bond graph analyses and experiments, and shows design guidelines on the stabilization of the double cavity half toroidal CVT.

Support Vector Machines (SVM) are learning machines with high performance about pattern recognition. But, SVM has some parameters decided preliminarily. As these parameters vary, SVM's recognition performance severely varies. In this paper, we propose an optimizing method of SVM's parameters using Reinforcement Learning. By the proposed method, the Actor-Critic method that is a kind of reinforcement learning was used. Actor-Critic method can use continuous action space. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by a one-dimension pattern recognition simulation. And, we verify practical effectiveness of the proposed method by experiments about handwritten character recognition. As results, the recognition rate of characters increased to about 90% with parameters of SVM optimized by the proposed method.

This study examines the influence of dynamic stiffness in the contact region on disk brake squeal. The frequency of squeal becomes higher as the thrust pressure grows larger. We think the cause of this phenomenon is that the stiffness of the pad depends on thrust pressure, because the vibration characteristics of the disk and the caliper are not change by thrust pressure. Therefore, we measure the contact stiffness of the pad. The results show that the stiffness of the pad has pressure dependency. To clarify the influence of the pad stiffness on squeal, we analyze the disk-pad-caliper system as the surface contact analysis model, which combines the disk with the pad-caliper by distributed springs.

This paper proposes a simple relation of the lateral guidance mechanism for automatic guided vehicles and Dual Mode Trucks, and named it SSM (Sensor Steering Mechanism). SSM consists of a guide bar and deceleration gear which reduces the bar angle to one-second. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of this relation, this paper examines the stability of the dynamic behavior of the front wheel steering of the vehicle. These results show that there is no Iimitation of the moving speed unless without a slip of the tire. For the test, a self-standing mobile robot, reduced to a scale of one twentieth of the real car, is developed. Experimental results show that high-speed automatic moving is realized by using this relation.

This paper compares two path-tracking control procedures, one using the steering angle as the control input and the other using steering torque as the input. This comparison will make clear the characteristics of both approaches. While steering angle control provides superior robustness, the control system configuration does not allow the driver to intervene in the steering process. In contrast, steering torque control provides some degree of freedom for allowing the driver to steer even during the control process, thus offering the potential for the provision of a steering assist mechanism.

In this paper, we present the possibility of biological machining by bacteria as a new technique for metal removal. There are some kinds of chemolithotrophic bacteria which gain energy from inorganic matter and fix carbon dioxide of the air. Among them, there is a particular bacteria, Thiobacillus ferrooxidans, which "eats" metals. Machining of grooves on pure iron and pure copper by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans is experimentally investigated. The experimental analysis made it clear that biomachining was possible, since the depth of the groove generated on the workpiece increased approximately proportionally to the machining time. Furthermore, electric field assisted biomachining proved to be even more effective, because the removal rate became much higher under an electric field.

本論文は, ねじの幾何学的形状を考慮して, より実機に近いモデルでのねじ締結体の有限要素法による解析方法について紹介したものである. これによると, らせん状に突起したねじ山を有するねじ部の, 三次元有限要素法による解析方法が, 明らかにされたのみならず, 従来解析がなされていなかった植込ボルトおよび押えボルトなどのねじ締結体の軸対称有限要素法による解析方法も明らかにされた.

本研究では,摩擦トルクが極めて小さく汚染の心配が全くない静圧空気送りねじの開発に取組んだ。ねじをモデル化したコニカル軸受の静特性理論解析法は,実験的にその妥当性が確かめられ,静圧空気送りねじの設計および静特性解析の基礎が確立された。この結果をもとに静圧空気送りねじを実際に設計,試作し,半径方向および軸方向負荷容量を測定した。さらに,これらの測定結果と理論解析結果とを比較検討した。

This paper is concerned with a study of the high performance realization of electronic engrave technology. Using actual piezo actuator for ultra-high speed electronic engrave machine, we designed several control systems to realize a good performance, after the system identification and modeling. The designed control strategies consist of (i) LQI servo control, (ii) Two-degree-of-freedom control system, (iii) Sliding mode control with observer, (iv) Sliding mode control with output feedback. Incidentally, we also find out the compulational speed limit of DSP system via the experiments. We realized the good performance using the two-degree-of-freedom control and the sliding mode control with observer. The most important contribution of this study is that the experimental results can be directly used to commercial machine.

The cooling lubricants are still widely used for machining operation today to extend the tool life and to improve the quality of the machined surface. However, due to increasingly strict regulation aiming at controlling environmental pollution, the costs of using cooling lubricants are rising. It is, therefore, necessary to reduce the amount of cooling lubricant used in production lines. The logical step which can be taken to avoid the environmental problem is dry machining. But sometimes dry machining is not possible due to manufacturing process aspects, such as extensive tool wear and insufficient surface quality. To solve those problems, this study proposes cutting with minimal quantity lubrication(MQL), which is able to achieve the function of the cooling and lubrication with an extremely low consumption of lubricants and great amount of air flow. In this paper, the mechanism of the MQL system is introduced and by using this system, milling provess on carbon steel and aluminum alloys is tested to see the effectiveness of the MQL method.
