The results of vehicle performance tests often vary depending on differences in the road surface temperature. It is believed that these changes can partially be attributed to the effect of tire surface temperature. The aim of this study is to develop a tire force model considering the dependence of tire surface temperature. The newly developed tire model is composed of two functions, the thermodynamic function that allows us to consider changes in the tire surface temperature and the force function that allows for the effects of tire surface temperature. The parameters of this model are identified using the measured data obtained with an indoor test facility. To prove the validity of the developed model, the surface temperature and the tire force values are predicted using this model. The simulation results agreed rather well with the experimental results.

Spatiotemporal local changes have been extracted for evaluating physiological phenomena by an image reconstruction algorithm of electrical impedance tomography (EIT) using sparse Bayesian learning (SBL). The proposed method identifies a region of interest (ROI) by a priori information on conductivity distribution σ of each biological tissue and automatically learns block-sparsity and temporal-correlation in the identified ROI in the form of blocked column vector (BCV). Two types of numerical simulations are conducted to model lymphedema (LE) and venous edema (VE) that cause spatiotemporal local changes in σ of subcutaneous tissue fluids in human calf phantom which consists of three parts: great saphenous vein (GSV) as ROI and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and muscle as background. From the results, spatiotemporal local changes in σ are clearly extracted only near GSV by the proposed method even in a field where the time-varying σ in the background is large. Furthermore, the accuracy of the proposed method is evaluated under the variant conditions of conductivity ratios of SAT and muscle relative to GSV, i.e., ρGSV/SAT and ρGSV/muscle, respectively, and area ratio accuracy ARAGSV is the highest in the case where ρGSV/SAT = ρGSV/muscle, which achieves ARAGSV = 2.241 regardless of the values of ρGSV/SAT and ρGSV/muscle.

自動車用ブレーキホースのかしめ構造の決定は,従来,試作品を実験で評価して行われているが,本研究では,耐久信頼性向上,開発効率向上のため,FEMで定量的に解析する手法を検討した.本稿では,ホースを構成するゴムにへたり(圧縮永久歪)が生じた場合の液漏れに影響するシール性能を考察し,これを基にホースの使用環境温度の違いによるホースの寿命推定を行った.これらの事から,ホースを構成するゴムにへたり(圧縮永久歪)が生じると,シール性能に大きな悪影響を及ぼすことを示した.さらに,寿命推定では,使用環境温度が高くなればなるほど寿命は短くなるということを示唆することができた.

In this research, the dynamic characteristics of a small wheel bicycle are investigated. The bicycle model is formulated by using multibody dynamics. Then, the stability of bicycles is analyzed by parametric study using the bicycle model. The effects of the parameters of tire diameter and head angle are examined by focusing on a small wheel bicycle. The straight-ahead stability and upstanding stability are evaluated at each parameter. The results show the tendency of stability at each parameter and the influential parameter to the small wheel bicycle is found. The driving experiment using the small wheel bicycle is performed. In the experiment, the stability of the small wheel bicycles with variable head angle is evaluated by the subjects. It is confirmed that varying head angle increases the stability of the small wheel bicycle. The results are corresponding with the simulation results and it is shown that the simulation captures the tendency of the stability and expresses the characteristics of the small wheel bicycle.

Drive video recorders (DRs) have been installed on a plenty number of the taxicabs in large cities in Japan. This paper discusses how to carry out a detailed traffic accidents analysis using drive video recorder data obtained in Tokyo. The sequential motions of the cars concerned before and after the crash are illustrated throughout a process in the case studies of two traffic accidents. The causes of the accidents are discussed as well as measures to prevent the accidents and the DR data requirements for effective analysis based on the motion picture and the log data recorded by the commercial DRs. This newly-developed approach makes those possible to carry out the reproduction of the accident process, the estimation of the causes and the background factors, and the consideration of the preventive safety measures. It is more effective to make such analysis by using not only the DR data but also the Internet resources such as a map, an aerial photograph and other information. The requirements of DR hardware and DR data for the proper analysis of the accidents were also examined.

最近,海水は従来より広い温度・圧力の範囲で利用される機会が増した.冷却水としての利用,海洋温度差発電,淡水化あるいは深海での機器の伝熱などがその例である.本研究では従来のデータのない30℃以上を含めて,0℃から80℃までそして400bar程度までの高圧域で,海水の粘性係数を閉回路式の高圧用毛細管式測定装置によって実験研究を行った.試料としては,標準海水を用いた.得られた結果から,純水の粘性係数に対する海水の値の比を広い範囲で表す実験式を作成した.

Generators with small gas turbines that generate less than 100kW are drawing attention as a power source of cogeneration systems. Dynamic pressure type air foil bearings are expected to serve as shaft bearings. The design that these bearing are simply designed, easy to produce and maintenance free without requiring lubrication, holds the key to miniaturization of micro-gas turbines. However, the details of such design guidelines have not been clarified though this technology is used in APC for aircraft units. In this study, in order to obtain design guidelines of foil bearing, in making the foil to be the discretion beam, the modeling of the foil was carried out. Taking the frictional forces of attachment part of the foil and the protrusion, etc. into consideration, static characteristic and dynamic characteristic were analyzed to examine performance and stability of the radial foil bearing.

Children with visual impairment and teachers of school for the children request new Raised-Line Drawing Kit for practical use in the field of education, because the existing drawing kit do not have sufficient performance to satisfy their various needs. In this paper, we reported that the development of the test model of our Tactile Drawing Pen using beeswax enable people with visual impairment to express and perceive their ideas more accurately. Additionally, we conducted two experiments for collecting the quantitative data to decide the basic specification guaranteeing the high usability for all age people with visual impairment including the children. The results showed that people with visual impairment felt that our device was easy to write when the pen pressure needed to release the inks was lower, and when the radius on the tip was larger. We determine that the recommended values are 50 gram-force. Furthermore, we determined that our Tactile Drawing Pen should equip mechanism to release inks which sizes are 2.0 mm height and 3.0 mm line width because the dimensions are appropriate to understand easily.

This paper proposes a design method that uses electric power steering (EPS) to reduce the effort required for handling in a vehicle. To accomplish this, the design must reduce the physical effort required of the driver, improve the controllability of vehicle dynamics, and adjust steering feedback to adopt the driver's characteristics. The influence of the stability factor and rear cornering compliance on handling and the effects of modifying these conditions were investigated. In addition, in order to compensate for the influence of these factors, EPS compensation features are addressed. Thus, desired steering characteristics are discussed as a function of steering frequency and yaw rate magnitude based on yaw rate and a Lissajous figure of steering torque. The influence of the stability factor and rear cornering compliance on a stable handling feeling are proven by simulation and linear analysis, and the conditions that cause a loss of this feeling of stability, even when vehicle dynamics are stable, are explored. EPS compensation functions are proposed against the influence of the stability factor and rear cornering compliance on the sense of handling. Furthermore, other EPS functions are proposed to compensate for the response from yaw rate to steering torque and to help the driver better understand the vehicle's behavior. Finally, the effects of EPS compensation functions on reducing the effort required for handling are demonstrated by a test where a single lane change was performed.

The purpose of this paper is to present a graphical method for evaluating task performance of a manipulator for a planar peg-in-hole assembly task. The manipulator has three revolute joints, including a compliant element, and performs the task in a plane. Further, an RCC (Remote Center Compliance) is mounted on the end-point of the manipulator. First, a force condition to avoid jamming on the chamfer is derived. A stiffness condition at the compliance center of the RCC is then obtained from the force condition. Under the stiffness condition, the manipulator can avoid the jamming on the chamfer. Second, a graphical method is proposed on the basis of the stiffness condition and a DMA (Dexterity Measure for Assembly) that was previously derived by the authors. Third, the method allows us to evaluate the task-performance of a manipulator (e.g. PUMA 560). Finally, the evaluation results show that the stiffness condition for avoidance of jamming on the chamfer is important in evaluating task-performance of a manipulator for a peg in-hole task.

This paper is concerned with three-dimensional stresses of a circular elastic rotating disk with a step under centrifugal forces. A method of solution is presented for the problem by using an approximate analytical solution and a body force distribution method. For this purpose, we apply Green's functions for axisymmetric body force problems of an infinite elastic thick plate. Stress distributions in the stepped rotating disk are shown by numerical calculations.

In this study, we proposed a new rotational multi-stable vibration energy harvesting system to harvest vibration energy using elastic spring and piezoelectric element. Theoretical studies such as the equation of dynamic motion of the proposed rotational multi-stable vibration model, the distribution characteristics of elastic potential energy, and the prediction of the periodic excitation frequency by the natural vibration mode measurement experiment will be conducted. Using the developed rotational multi-stable vibration energy harvesting experimental device, we investigated the amplitude increase effect due to the new stochastic resonance phenomenon that occurs in the proposed rotary multi-stable vibration system, and evaluated the performance of the multi-stable vibration energy harvesting.

Several former top players sent a letter to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) encouraging the governing body to revisit the question of rackets. In the letter, the players wrote that racket technology has led to major changes in how the game is played at the top level. This paper investigated the physical properties of a new type of racket with active piezoelectric fibers appeared recently in the market, and predicted the various factors associated with the frontal impact, such as impact force, contact time, deformation of ball and strings, and also estimated the racket performance such as the coefficient of restitution, the rebound power coefficient, the post-impact ball velocity and the sweet areas relevant to the power in tennis. It is based on the experimental identification of the dynamics of the ball-racket-arm system and the approximate nonlinear impact analysis with a simple swing model. The predicted results with forehand stroke model can explain the difference in mechanism of performance between the new type racket with active piezoelectric fibers and the conventional passive representative rackets. It showed that this new type racket provides higher coefficient of restitution on the whole area of string face and also gives larger rebound power coefficients particularly at the topside and bigger powers on the whole area of string face but the difference was not so large. It seems that the racket-related improvements in play are relatively small and the players themselves continue to improve, accordingly there is a gap between a perception and reality.
