<p>Tactile presentation devices using mechanical stimuli require that the stimulus elements are properly contacted with the user's skin. Many researchers have developed various kinds of the haptic display to realize the reproduction of skin sensation. Human body has complex shapes so that it is sometimes impossible to contact between stimulus elements and skin. In this study, we introduce the two-axis gimbal mechanism to haptic display. We referenced the ankle mechanism of walking robots for extreme terrain, which can handle complex shapes. In this paper, we conducted the experiments and evaluated the fitting mechanism with the acquired contact area and the pressure value. The results show that our proposed mechanism makes contact area increase and the pressure value in contactors uniform.</p>

The study deals with automation of deburring by industrial robot. The study focused on automation of deburring with positing error. While general, deburring system using industrial robot decreases error using force control and path based on the CAD data, the system uses displacement sensor to measure trajectory error. From the experimental result, the system is found to be improvement of path compensation accuracy in corners.

In recent years global environmental problems become aggravated, the shift to the sustainable society is required. The quantitative environmental load assessment is necessary to achieve the sustainable society. Though various LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) method is developed for such a demand, it is pointed out that there are a lot of problems in existing LCA. To solve such problems, Eco-Efficiency Potential Assessment (E2-PA) was developed. In this paper, we study on Hazardous Intensity (HI). HI is Materials and Energy for taking hazardous substances into harmless as Potential, but the process for taking hazardous substances into harmless is not decided. So in this research HI is alternated by two methods (Method 1: alternate by the intensity for virgin resources. Method 2: alternate by the ratio of hazardous factor to the standard substance). Then we show the products' assessment result by using alternated HI, and compares it with other LCA. As a result, validity as the potential evaluation of E2-PA is shown.

In this paper, we report an approach to measure mechanomyogram (MMG) using a MEMS pressure sensor. The sensor consisted of an open cavity and a micro piezo-resistive cantilever, which was placed at the cavity's opening. The sensor was attached on a subject's forearm to measure the emitted MMG when the subject was exerting forces with his/her arm. In the prototype sensor, the cavity had footprint radius of 5.5 mm and the height of 3 mm. The gap between the cantilever and the surrounding walls was downscaled to 2 μm to enable the sensor to measure low frequency sound pressure with high sensitivity. In experiments, we used an electromyogram recorder, a low frequency microphone and an electronic stethoscope, and based on the results taken with these conventional devices to evaluate our proposed sensor. The experimental results showed that the sensor was able to measure MMG with the maximum S/N ratio of 50.

This paper deals with the occurrence mechanism of the squeal and chatter phenomena generated in a bicycle disk brake and their countermeasures. From the results by bench test apparatus, it was made clear that the squeal is in-plane vibration in the direction of rotor surface with frequency 1kHz caused by the frictional characteristics with negative slope with respect to the relative velocity generated in the vibration system including brake components and spokes, and the chatter is another frictional vibration with frequency 500Hz in which the squeal occurring in the in-plane direction of rotor and the out-of-plane vibration of rotor due to Coulomb friction are superimposed through the internal resonance relation caused by temperature increase of rotor during braking. The measures for squeal and chatter were taken on spokes and hub, and the validity was confirmed by using bench test apparatus.

Heat transfer enhancing method is more and more needed to decrease power consumption. This study was carried out to develop a high performance vortex generator, and find out the relationship between vortex structure and heat transfer. Double delta winglet pair was developed to reduce pressure drop with keeping up vortex strength. It was clarified that double delta winglet pair had higher performance than delta winglet pair by 10% at flow velocity of 1.4m/s by measuring average heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. It was found out that double delta winglet pair had the position of vortex core at short distance from heat transfer surface than delta winglet pair. Therefore, the heat transfer coefficient was larger than delta winglet pair's one, even though it's vortex strength was smaller than that.

<p>After nature disaster such as earthquakes, flood or typhoon, usually electric breakout will occur during which portable power generators are necessary. Since conventional portable power generators use gasoline as the fuel, the exhaust gas and the smell will do damage to people's health. In this paper, we try to develop the portable power generator whose power capacity is 1 kW by reforming the conventional reciprocal gasoline engine and using hydrogen gas as fuel. An experimental system was established to measure the thermal efficiency and the output power of the reformed engine by adjusting some factors such as compression ratio, position of the intake and engine oil and so on. Based on the experimental results, it is found that output power over 1 kW and the maximum thermal efficiency was 23.42%, respectively.</p>

Since particulate matters (PM) emissions including soot from diesel cars do harm to our health, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been used in the after-treatment of exhaust gas. It is reported that DPF filling with PM causes higher back-pressure and more fuel consumption, and continuously regenerating PM trap system is needed. Then, we have focused on the diesel exhaust gas perfect burning system (DEGPBS) developed by COTEC, Ltd., where soot is trapped and burned by the heater. However, the phenomena in the system are not well understood, because it is difficult to conduct the measurement inside the filter. In this study, we simulated soot combustion and deposition by the lattice Boltzmann method to observe the combustion field in the filter. The inner structure of the filter was obtained by a 3D X-ray CT technique. Results show that the heat and mass transport in DEGPBS are well visualized. It is found that temperature of the filter and oxygen concentration are important factors to burn soot in exhaust gas.

This study deals with the nondestructive discremination between the corona bond and the nugget in the spot welds using a newly developed ultrasonic measurement with the line focussed probe. Four types of spot welded specimens were prepareed. The transmission charactaristics of ultrasound in the nugget was investigated by the measurement of one sheet specimen, which were made by grinding after removing upper plate of spot welds. The nugget size was measured by the scanning measurement over the spot welded specimens with and without the indentation. The measurement result of one sheet specimen showed that the reflected wave from the back wall in the nugget exhibited higher or lower amplitude than that in the base metal, which depended on the water path in the measurement. The scannning results of spot welds also showed that the nugget was possible to discriminate from the corona bond as long as the indentation in the surface was shallow.

The plastic packages of ICs have been changing from insertion types to surface mounted types. Reflow soldering is used for surface mounted ICs onto printed circuit boards. During this process, packages are heated to above 200°C. If the encapsulant absorbs moisture, package cracking may occur during the reflow soldering. It is known that the cracks are caused by vapor pressure generated inside the packages, causing excessive stress in the plastic. In the former report, moisture diffusion analysis in the plastic was performed and vapor pressure could be obtained. Since the edge tip of the chip pad where package cracking occurs is a singular point within the elastic stress field, strength evaluation for package cracking is not established. In this study, the quantitative strength evaluation of the plastic is investigated by using the stress singularity theory.

<p>There are some reports about effects of traditional dances in each country which have been utilized for health program mainly for elderly. However, few studies tried to organize knowledge about effects of the traditional dances on mind and body which was obtained through previous studies and practices. Therefore, this study gathered text data about case examples of utilizing the traditional dances for physical and mental health maintenance and promotion mainly from academic papers. Keywords characterizing the effects of the traditional dances were identified by morphological analysis on the text data and extracting frequent words. In addition, the effects were classified into some categories by data clustering based on appearance patterns of the keywords. Considering the results of text mining and various characteristics such as body movements and expressions of each traditional dance, influencing factors on psychological and physical effects were discussed.</p>

Wheel slips in railway vehicles cause poor acceleration and damage to wheels and rails. Re-adhesion control is widely used to resolve wheel slips in electric motor cars. In re-adhesion control, it has been an important problem to consider appropriately the vehicle dynamic motion, which affects the control performance greatly. In this study, we investigate the mechanism and characteristics of slip misdetection phenomena which occur due to bogie vibration excited during re-adhesion control. We construct a three-dimensional vehicle model including roll motion with parallel Cardan drives. The tangential force coefficient model between wheels and rails includes the influence of translational velocity, slip velocity and wheel loads. The simulation model is validated by comparison with measurements in a test run of a real vehicle conducted in previous research. Simulation results illustrate the behavior of the bogie under traction such as the difference of wheel loads of four wheels and the attitude of the bogie frame. It is shown that continual slip misdetection can occur because of pitch and roll vibration of the bogie frame which is excited during re-adhesion control when the primary vertical damping coefficient is small. The misdetection is prevented by changing the amount of motor torque reduction in re-adhesion control. The appropriate range of the amount of reduction to avoid the misdetection gets narrower as the primary vertical damping coefficient decreases. The primary vertical suspension stiffness and characteristic of tangential force coefficient also affect the occurrence of the misdetection.
