In this paper, we present a new hybrid-streamline-upwind finite-element method, which is based on the finite analytic method developed in the field of the finite difference method. In order to obtain an optimal shape function, we introduce an adjoint differential operator to the differential operator for a steady advection-diffusion equation. The shape functions which satisfy these differential operators are mutually dual. One of them interpolates accurately the functions appearing in convection-dominated flows, the other becomes a hybrid-streamline-upwind weight function. Furthermore, we define a discrete del operator for the reduction of memory storage in the computer. As a result, we achieve simplicity of formulation and high-speed calculation of the finite-element method.

Exactly speaking, requirement properties in running shoes depend on the condition. Here, the condition indicates the runner's skill and running velocity. In the designing of running shoes for high speed, sole bending and torsional module are very important. Because large sole deformation causes energy loss in contact phase. In this study, propulsion efficiency calculated by the horizontal ground reaction force in running is proposed. The reduction in the propulsion efficiency is very effective for high speed running. The propulsion efficiency depends on the sole stiffness. In order to evaluate the propulsion efficiency, sole stiffness evaluation method based on eigenvalue analysis is introduced. After checking of the validity, the practical deigning of running shoes for high speed running is indicated.

We have already proposed a disk brake for robotic use in which the braking torque is generated both by PZT-actuator and solenoid. The action of the solenoid is transmitted to friction pads through a wedge mechanism. In order to make clear the relation between manufacturing accuracy and application force of the brake, dynamic simulations and experiments have been carried out. And the result of this analysis has been utilized in designing a small and light brake.

The present paper, being the continuation of the auther's earlier reports on the Koku Kenkyusho Zasturoku, consists of two parts. The former is the experiments of the air flow characteristics through an ordinary inlet valve and seat. Generally the air flow through an inlet valve has four different flow configurations I, II, III and IV with the increase of its lift as shown in Fig. 7,and at their tranferences there appear discontinuous points in the lift flow quantity curve, which are called as singular points. The latter is the experiments of variations of the flow configurations and the flow quantities, according to the changes or reformations of the shapes of the inlet valve and seat. There are five changeable points in the shapes as shown in Fig. 3. By these reformations the flow configuration and the flow quantity vary considerably, and often disappear the flow configurations II & III. The most efficient reformation is the rounding of the sharp edges of the valve and seat, and by this reformation Hispano Suiza 300 〓 engine increased 10〜15 〓 at 1800-1900 r.p.m.

In aging society, welfare personal vehicles have been widely used to improve the quality of life of elderly and handicapped persons. However, it is difficult for the users to steer the vehicle in narrow buildings. Accordingly, platoon driving of welfare personal vehicles has attracted attention as one of the effective leading methods. The platoon driving system consists of the longitudinal control and the lateral control. The longitudinal control is based on Adaptive Cruise Control. If the vehicle parameters are adjusted for each user’s driving ability, the longitudinal control will be string unstable in the worst case. As for the lateral control, the following vehicle tracks the preceding vehicle according to the target point following algorithm. The following vehicle may collide with a wall due to the large tracking error at a sharp corner in buildings. In this paper, the robust and precise platoon driving system is proposed to realize the safe platoon driving. Firstly, the longitudinal controller stably keeps the inter-vehicle distance regardless of the short time-headway. Secondary, the lateral controller precisely tracks the wheel track of preceding vehicle by using way-points. Thirdly, the robust platoon control for the different vehicle dynamics is designed by Model Error Compensator. Finally, the effectiveness of our proposed system is evaluated by the driving experiments.

Electric-powered personal vehicles have been used as a convenient transportation device. A front-drive-type personal vehicle STAVi, that is easy for elderly but also disabled persons, to climb on from a bed has been focused on. However, front-drive-type personal vehicles are difficult to operate because their over-steering characteristic is strong owing to free casters. If the vehicle can be driven by an easy joy-stick operation, it will be a comfortable function for all users. In previous studies, we proposed a simple modeling error compensator which achieves a desired driving characteristics using a simple reference model, and the effectiveness was evaluated by simulations. In this paper, we propose a control system for STAVi using a modeling error compensator with a non-linear reference model to realize a comfortable under-steering characteristics. At first, the advantage of proposed controller is summarized. The STAVi's over-steering characteristic is modified to be under-steering one by proposed controller. As an experimental result, the additional assistance is necessary for a beginner. The phase-lead compensator for beginners is designed to adjust the maneuverability depending on the skill level. The maneuverability is evaluated by driving experiments on the slope.

Attitude synchronization is a key technology to facilitate the capturing process of tumbling satellites. Tumbling motion of the satellites is a nonlinear system and the inertia ratio of the satellite is a dominant parameter of the motion. Estimation of the inertia ratio of the tumbling satellites is thus important function for a chaser satellite to synchronize its attitude motion with the tumbling satellite motion. The present study is devoted to investigate an adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) algorithm applied to attitude tracking maneuvers. The adaptive law added to the sliding mode control (SMC) algorithm is employed to estimate the inertia ratio of the tumbling satellite. Attitude tracking performances of the ASMC method is studied numerically to compare with those of a quaternion feedback control method and a simple SMC method. It is shown that the precise synchronization can be executed by the ASMC method even if there exist some errors between the real value of the inertia ratio of the tumbling satellite and the estimated one at the beginning of tracking maneuvers.

<p>Hyperloop is a next-generation transportation system plan that is currently being developed which is a railroad running in a tube with reduced pressure. In this research, we aim to understand the behavior of the capsule and to investigate the running stability by numerical analysis of the flow field inside the Hyperloop tube. In this study, the tube is moved at high speed in numerical calculation and the internal flow field is examined. Calculation is performed considering compressibility in non-steady computation. In addition, each parameter was calculated from the relational expression of the shock wave whose Mach number was changed and given as a condition. In the process of calculation, we changed the total pressure applied and verified in which condition shock waves occur in the tube. Also, we investigated the effects on the capsule due to the changed Mach number and the change in the speed, and made it a basic research to examine the running stability of the Hyperloop.</p>

Direct injection (DI) is becoming increasingly popular among gasoline automotive engines, due to its benefits for fuel consumption and engine output. A key component of a DI system is the fuel pump, which must deliver fuel at much higher pressures than a conventional spark ignition (SI) engine. For a DI fuel pump, maximum fuel flow rate, maximum operation speed, electrical power consumptions and noise are conflicting requirements. This paper describes the development of a compact single-cylinder DI fuel pump which achieves increased fuel flow rates while consuming decreased electrical power and generating less noise, compared to conventional DI fuel pumps currently in the market. This is achieved by the introduction of a new concept for the flow rate control valve, so called normally close valve. The construction of this valve allows it to have smallest air gap between magnetic surfaces at valve open position, which makes it possible to generate high magnetic force with less electrical energy. Moreover, the magnetic force is used for handling hydraulic force, which makes it possible to handle higher flow rate. In addition, the flow rate control valve moves passively by the hydraulic forces, such that the impact noise at valve opening is reduced significantly.

This paper describes a new melt drag process for producing magnesium alloy strip with boss. This magnesium alloy part is made by model melt drag process. Model melt drag process replace solidification roll with flat substrate. The substrate has circular cylinder cavity and oval cavity. Molten magnesium alloy AZ31 feed into this cavity and form boss. The diameters of cylindrical geometry are φ5, 7.5 and 10mm. The measurement of oval cavity is width 5mm, length 30mm, depth 3mm. It was possible in the achievement of the filling of shape by keeping the melt temperature high, and the contact time between molten metal and substrate long. As result of microstructure observation, the cast defect such as shrinkage cavity did not exist, and fine and uniformly grain size (50〜70μm) confirmed.

<p>This paper describes the development of a flexible cable type robot aimed to travel in the sand available for rescue operation or marine resource exploration. To realize it, we have developed a robot made of soft tube material driven by pneumatics, inspired by the garden eel capable of diving in the sand quickly and deeply. In this study, we propose a new structure thinner than the previous one, aiming to dive into 350mm of depth with the reduction of consumed air, enhancement of response, and improvement of insertability. Finally, we verify the validity of the proposed structure through the experiment by the prototype.</p>

We developed a new suit for Tokyo 2020Olympic and Paralympic cycling road races. Several clothes were tested by using a truncated cone wrapped with cloth in the wind tunnel. On the basis of the drag measurements, several pilot suits were made. They were tested by using a full-scale mannequin which can pedal the bike in the wind tunnel. Finally, we succeeded in developing the new suit for Tokyo 2020Olympic and Paralympic cycling road races, which is superior to Beijing model.

適度の光学的厚さをもつ多孔性の通気性大層を高温の作動ガスが横切って流れるとき大きなエンタルピ落差が生じ, ふく射エネルギに変換され, その主要部が流れの上流方向に伝般する新しい伝熱系に関し理論解析と基礎実験を実施した. 本原理は応用範囲も広く, 工業用路に適用すると設計の基本概念を変革するほどの大きな効果が期待でき, 小型金属加熱炉の実験を行った結果, 60%もの燃費節減ができた.

A novel liquid-piston steam engine which can achieve high efficiency at low temperature region of T < 300 °C as well as high reliability and low cost is developed. In this study, a numerical simulation tool for designing the liquid-piston steam engine is developed and experimentally verified. In this study, nucleate boiling and thin film evaporation are both considered in the model. It is verified that sensitive heat transport and simultaneous occurrence of evaporation and condensation are the major causes of losses. It is expected that higher efficiency can be achieved if whole liquid which is introduced in the heating section is totally vaporized.
