The methodology of the sportswear design is not yet established. The sportswear is required of the better functions than those of the usual apparels, and its design must always be done with the expressions synergic between the Basic Design (body elements, functions) and the Visual Design (esthetic element, decoration). Especially the former i.e. Body elements, is the basic element of the design, and on its treatment depends the levels of the sportswears. Thus, the way to design purposively, is to analyse a human body anatomically, and to find the joint between the human body and the design. Here as an exemple, the extensibility and the dermatome structure of the skin will be demonstrated. These functions have the deep relations with the motor function, basic function of the sportswear, and will derive the structural principle of the apparel pattern which is its apropriate expression measure.

Such as engines with driving pistons, it is important to understand gas flows in the cylinder to design more efficient intake and exhaust system. Above all, we have to consider the pressure distribution at near the spark plug caused by the shape of flow channel. In this paper, the numerical method of fluid-solid interactions for unsteady flow is used to demonstrate the gas flow driven by intake, compression, ignition and exhaust in the cylinder attributed to the motion of piston-crank system. As a result, the cell-motor torque contributes the piston-crank motion, consequently the compression phase is reproduced properly. In the future study, we try to consider other phases of the four-cycle engine for more detailed analysis.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of biomass gasification in the packed-bed, conducting gasification experiment and analysis of syn-gas in the reactor. In this study, pellets of black pine (ψ6.5mm×8.5mm) are fed intermittently with air as the gasification agent. The gasification experiments were carried out by two type gasification methods, such as updraft and downdraft setups. In the gasification tests, the temperature distribution in the gasification reactor and the gas compositions are measured and analyzed during gasification by thermo-couples inserted from a furnace wall and a micro gas chromatograph, respectively. Product gas before cooling were sampled for determine the amount of tar generation.

In the present paper, unsteady natural convection flows of air in a square cavity with differentially heated walls are investigated numerically using the hybrid-GSMAC (generalized and simplified marker and cell) finite-element method. A direct-numerical simulation of two-dimensional turbulence is shown in the present paper without introducing any random forces. The present result at Rα=1.0×108 is compared with the other numerical results. The present result of calculation is in good agreement with that of the others This study allows us to say that the hybrid-GSMAC method suggested by Tanahashi is clarified. In addition, selected frames from an animation generated from the computational results at Rα=1.0×109 show very clearly the formation of large-scale eddies via the following sequence : initial instability, proceeding through transition, and eventually the statistical steady state. Using this method, it is possible to investigate natural convection and heat transfer phenomena at high Rayleigh numbers up to 1010.

An experimental study has been conducted in order to elucidate influences of additions of hydrogen and methane on the combustion synthesis of diamond films. Differences between the flat flame and the conical flame are first examined, and it is reconfirmed that the velocity gradient is one of the dominant parameters in the combustion synthesis of diamond films. Additions of hydrogen and/or methane are examined on the growth rates of diamond films, crystal sizes, and morphology. These results are also confirmed by conducting the similar experiments with a welding torch, instead of the flat flame burner. It is found that an addition of hydrogen reduces the growth rate and crystal size, while that of methane enhances those although homogeneity of the diamond films is reduced.

An experimental study to synthesize diamond films has been conducted under a well-defined flow field to make clear the mechanism of combustion synthesis of diamond films. Using a flat flame burner, the homogeneous diamond films are synthesized on substrates, above which flat, premixed acetylene/hydrogen/oxygen flames are established. The effect of equivalence ratio and velocity gradient is examined on the growth rates of diamond films, crystal sizes, and their morphology. It is found that not only the maximum growth rate but also the maximum crystal size can be obtained when the equivalence ratio is about 2.50, and that the growth rate, crystal size, and/or morphology are nearly the same when the velocity gradient is kept constant. These results are confirmed by a conical flame with a welding torch. In addition, the scratching treatment for the substrates by diamond powder is unnecessary, the maximum growth rate of diamond films can be obtained when the surface roughness is about 0.11 μm, and the nuclei of diamond appear in scratches on the substrates.

Evaporation behavior of small droplet on wafer with various film was investigated. The droplet evaporation process was categorized into two types, i.e. constant contact radius (CCR) and constant contact angle (CCA) types. In the previous research, the evaporation behavior of relatively large droplets have reported and it was confirmed that the behavior was able to predict by a simple diffusion model. In this study, the same model was applied to the small droplet. As a result, the developed model was agreed with the experimental data in the case of relatively small droplets.

<p>Due to energy shortage and environmental protection, reduction of energy consumption and CO<sub>2</sub> emissions has been demanded. A smart home system is now expected as one of the solutions to satisfy these demands by using various home-energy devices such as cogeneration system, electric vehicle, and stationary battery in cooperation with each other. This paper analyzes the time-series dataset of the optimized home-energy device control, which minimize energy cost including initial investment and CO<sub>2</sub> emission on a sunny winter day, by the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). POD extracts specific rules that discharging a stationary battery in the daytime with higher power unit price and operating a cogeneration system in the time when electricity and heat demands exist are significant for energy cost reduction. Thus, POD helps to consider universal rules which will be effective anytime for home energy management.</p>

In Japan, high-level radioactive liquid waste is vitrified in Joule-heated glass melter. Natural convection in glass melter is predicted by numerical calculations for stable operation. Since molten glass is a highly viscous fluid, implicit methods are used in numerical calculations. However, cold cap above the molten glass shows a large spatial variation in viscosity. Therefore, using the implicit method to compute the cold cap takes a long time. In this study, we focus on Variable Inertia Method that can compute natural convection of highly viscous fluids in the explicit method and verify its applicability to glass melter.

<p>The purpose of this study is to make observations of the behavior of fatigue damages at a CFRP surface. Matrixcracks called transverse crack, splitting and delamination in a CFRP are occurred under fatigue loading. Generally Ultrasonic Test (UT) and X-ray Test are used for CFRP inspection. However, it has been known that the inspection on a CFRP surface with UT is a task of extreme difficulty. And X-ray Test is expensive. So,we applied Fluorescent Penetrant Test to a woven CFRP surface with fatigue damages. As the result, matrixcracks are detected during the cyclic tensile test. In addition , it was also found that splitting in terms of woven CFRP were formed 45° direction cracks look like the edge of a saw.</p>

交通事故死者数の半減が日本の国家目標になっている。技術史上の大発明であるシートベルトと車体構造の進化により、交通事故による24時間以内死亡者数は減少しているが重傷者数は増加しており、交通弱者である子供(15歳以下)ならびに高齢者の死亡・重傷者合計数が増加している。死者・重傷者の半減に貢献するために、最適化設計されたシートベルトと故池田正彦氏が発明した衝撃緩衝装置を組み合わせて、乗員保護効果を極大化することを提案する。さらに、高齢者の認知・反応機能劣化に対応して、RFID装置を歩行者・自転車乗用者認識用のエージェント指向通信・放送システムとして適用することを提案する。

Chuhachi Ninomiya, who didn't have access to information about airplane development in Europe and America, succeeded independently in flying a miniature aircraft which resembled a crow. This flight took place 12 years prior to the Wright brothers' success. And he also conceived an aircraft design resembling a jewel beetle. His achievement should be valued more highly. However, his name is not well-known even in Japan, and likewise his name is not present in world aviation history. Approaches to evaluating the achievements of Ninomiya more fairly and to ensure his name become present in world aviation history are examined.

Chuhachi Ninomiya had succeeded quite independently in flying a powered miniature aircraft 12 years in advance of the Wright brothers' success with "Wright Flyer". The miniature aircraft had wheels but the Wright brothers' airplane did not have them. Moreover, while the Wright brothers' airplane had two propeller blades, Ninomiya's aircraft had four propeller blades. Even though Ninomiya's aircraft was a miniature model, the originality and the flight results must be recognized as a big achievement. However, Ninomiya's name never appears in the aviation history of the world, and his name is hardly known in Japan compared with the Wright brothers. In this research, his development of the miniature aircraft, the possibility of a real airplane, and the evaluation of Ninomiya by future generations were examined.

On machine design, various knowledge and processes for design solution are needed. One of author has developed design support system to make it easy for design task. But developed design support system is restricted to support for certain design object and task In this research, we developed the design support system having two functions, named YU-PrOReS. One of function is proposing design object corresponding to designer purpose. Another function is reforming the design solution. YU-PrOReS is realized more widely support on mechanical design.
