In this paper, we propose a method to achieve a given desired tracking property with only minimal information on the control target by combining FRIT with some extensions to the intelligent PID control system. The intelligent PID control system has a simple structure and can stabilize a system using only parameters without requiring much dynamic characteristics of a control target. Here we firstly extend the intelligent PID to Proportional differentiel leading typed PID controller, which is abbreviated as iI-PD controller, to guarantee the stability of the closed loop for broader class of plants compared with the original inteliggent PID control systems. Secondly, we apply FRIT to decide the parameters of a controller with only one-shot experiment to follow the desired response. Thus, by combining FRIT, we obtain controller parameters which is adjusted so that it enable not only output to follow the desired response but also guarantee the stability of the closed loop system with only an initial experimental data. We also verify the effectiveness of the proposed method with numerical examples.

This paper considers an interpolated distributed cooperative observer design and its online update for the situation that intelligent transport systems (ITS) and vehicles estimate vehicle platoons' positions in a two-dimensional plane. ITS observes some vehicles' absolute positions, and each vehicle interpolates its position based on the observed relative distance to the surrounding vehicles and the vehicles' estimated position. The observers of each vehicle use the interpolated positions to estimate their vehicles' positions. The interpolated positions are updated depending on the communication status of the surrounding vehicles using sparse modeling. We provide a distributed search algorithm to generate the shortest communication path that can share the estimated position among the observers in a short time. These methods enable us to estimate the distributed position of vehicle platoons under the condition that the positional relationship between vehicles changes on a two-dimensional plane.

This paper proposes an algorithm for synthesizing music suitable for emotions in moving pictures. Our goal is to support multi-media content creation; web page design, animation films and so on. Here we adopt a human dance as a moving picture to examine the availability of our method. Because we think the dance image has high affinity with music. This algorithm is composed of three modules. The first is the module for computing emotions from an input dance image, the second is for computing emotions from music in the database and the last is for selecting music suitable for input dance via an interface of emotion.

Laborsaving is a major issue in production. In an automotive production line, a yard that is used as a temporary storage for vehicles before shipping. The vehicle-loading robot that operates autonomously has been proposed to automate the alignment of vehicles in the yard instead of human driving. In this study, the dynamic wireless power transfer system that includes the structure of the roadside for the vehicle-loaded robot is proposed. It is proven that the transmitter coil has enough durability for the load of the robot weight using simulation and actual measurement. It is also shown that the reinforcement bars of the road structure cause considerable eddy current loss even with stainless steel. This is similar to loss by coil resistance. This system achieves a 1.8kW dynamic wireless power transfer with an automated coil detection system and a frequency control system, under factory conditions.

Feature values of the current are rapidly becoming online indicators of faults in motors and load equipment. Diagnosis by analysis of the stator currents is called motor current signature analysis (MCSA). Compared with vibration analysis, this method can be applied without sensors, and additional long wiring. MCSA detects incidents peculiar to motors, such as bearing failures and rotor bar faults, before breakdown. In this study, we introduce relationships between the failures and current features. The MCSA sometimes has difficulty in identifying anomalies and there is the possibility of false-positive results; hence, we propose some solutions to these problems.

There has been an increasing interest in biological effects owing to magnetic field exposure, because wireless power transfer systems for electric vehicles are expected to be widespread in the 85kHz band. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a magnetic field generator and evaluate the biological effects through experimental verification. In particular, the exposure area needs to be expanded for the development of magnetic field generators to offer sufficient number of exposure subjects. This paper presents the design procedure of a two-winding inductor for expanding the exposure area of a magnetic field generator. Two-winding inductors connected in series and in parallel are shown, and circuit configurations using these inductors are presented. It is revealed through impedance analysis that the difference in circuit parameters restricts the operable frequency band in a magnetic field generator with a two-winding inductor connected in parallel. The two-winding inductor connected in parallel can expand the exposure area to 321% of that of a conventional magnetic field generator. Moreover, the validity of impedance analysis is confirmed through the experimental verification rated at 100V.

This paper describes how to smoothly restore the power system from blackout using a hydro power plant. Various kinds of abnormal phenomena could occur during the period of blackouts and restoration. Taking various possible abnormal phenomena into account, the authors first performed an analytical study of power system restoration processes using the proposed method with a simplified power system model consisting of a generator, some transmission lines and transformers. Based on this study, an actual power system test was then carried out. A transformer voltage goes to increase after its voltage application. This voltage increase causes an over voltage problem to a transformer. The authors are proposing practical countermeasures on the over voltage problem at restoration with a hydro power plant.

This paper proposes a search algorithm using particle swarm optimization (PSO) with virtual pheromone for swarm robots. Swarm robots are attracting attention in disaster relief works to search for victims. The search algorithm involves a combination of global and local searching. The conventional search method consists of random walk as the global search and PSO as the local search. However, random walk is not efficient in complex environments. For efficient searching, PSO with virtual pheromone is used for the global search. The virtual pheromone drives the swarm robots to an unsearched area, dose not need map data, and has low calculation cost. In addition, it is not necessary in the proposed method to switch algorithms between global and local searching. The validity of the proposed method was confirmed from the simulation results.

Contact-force control of propeller-driven systems achieves aerial tasks that require contact motions with objects. Conventional contact-force controllers for propeller-driven systems utilize a contact-force feedback controller. Although the feedback gain should be high to achieve high target tracking performance, a high gain causes a large overshoot. This paper therefore proposes a novel contact-force controller which utilizes an airframe's velocity and an airframe's acceleration. An estimated acceleration and an estimated velocity of the airframe are fed back to the contact-force controller. A rotor angular velocity is utilized to estimate the acceleration. The validity of the proposed controller is verified through frequency analysis, simulation, and experiment.

So far a single-stage neural network has been proposed to forecast insolation of next day. In the present paper, a multi-stage neural network is developed to reduce forecasting error further. A first-stage neural network forecasts average atmospheric pressure of next day from atmospheric pressure data of previous day. A second-stage neural network forecasts insolation level of next day from the average atmospheric pressure and weather data of previous day. A third-stage neural network forecasts insolation of next day form the insolation level and weather data of previous day. Meteorological data of Omaezaki, Shizuoka at April 1994 are chosen as input data. The insolation values forecasted by the multi-stage and the single-stage neural networks are compared with the measurement ones. The results show that the forecasting error is reduced to 24% (by the multi-stage) from 33% (by the single-stage).

<p>In this study, we used a miniature electrocardiogram (ECG) data-logger and evaluated the physiological response of carrion crows (<i>Corvus corone</i>) to an auditory repellent stimulus. Three carrion crows had an average heart rate of 243 bpm before they were exposed to the auditory stimulus. Their heart rates increased significantly to 302 bpm on initial exposure to the auditory stimulus and decreased gradually as the stimulus was repeated.</p>

<p>In 2017, it became mandatory for universities in Japan to disclose their policies in degree granting (Diploma Policy: DP, hereafter) that state standards to confer degrees. Meanwhile, since 1991, nomenclature of major fields that appear in diplomas has been the responsibility of individual universities, instead of the national regulation. This study examines whether the former reasonably evokes the latter, given that both of them are deemed to represent the learning outcomes that the graduate has obtained. In order to do so, we compared the ability of humans and that of a deep-learning system (which is based on the Character-level CNN), to match DPs and major fields that are randomly given. In the examination of human ability, which was implemented with a large enough number of participants to obtain statistically significant results, we found there were a certain number of DPs that the majority of people failed to match with major fields. Given this fact, we analyzed such DPs to demonstrate that the deep learning system shows a high success rate in sorting out the DPs that poorly evoke major fields.</p>
