Nonlinear electronic circuit is widely used in many fields of electronic devices. The importance of nonlinear electronic circuit is increasingly recognized with improvement in the speed and precision of electronic devices, and the development and expansion of use. Here, I give a trend of nonlinear electronic circuit which is introduced for the purpose of contributing to development of a nonlinear electronic circuit from a viewpoint of analog electronic circuit technology including new fields, such as chaos, neuro, and a neural network. From now on, nonlinear electronic circuit will become more important for the electronics, and the circuit technology will be utilized for many fields.

In this paper, we propose a model-based alignment system using evolutionary computation and particle filter for augmented reality (AR). AR is a technique to overlay useful virtual information on the real world. To realize the AR, alignment between real space and virtual space is a serious problem. In particular, an initial frame alignment for real-time tracking is needed in the prior knowledge based alignment. Therefore, we propose an alignment method using evolutionary computation for the initial frame alignment. In this paper, we use the multiple evolutionary computation methods for designing an effective method of alignment system. Moreover, we conduct tracking of the alignment target using particle filter based on the initial frame alignment results. By using this system, a model-based alignment can be conducted in a non-messy place such as being hard to acquire many feature points.

This paper describes an induction heating system of 1kW 450kHz which is developed for dental casting machines. This system consists of a single-phase diode rectifier, a voltage-source inverter using four power MOSFET's, and a series resonant circuit with a matching transformer of turn ratio 8:1. No capacitor is connected on the DC side of the rectifier except for a high frequency capacitor of 0.47 μ F. Thus, the DC voltage across the high frequency capacitor is fluctuating at 100Hz, that is, twice as high as the line frequency of 50Hz as if no capacitor were connected. Not only does the fluctuation have no effect on heating or melting but also the fluctuation plays an essential role in shaping the line current of the rectifier into sinusoid and unity power factor, because it is seen from the DC side of the rectifier that the inverter plus the resonant circuit acts as a pure resistance.The power control covering a wide range from 50W to 1kW is achieved by power factor control of the inverter which takes the place of DC voltage control of the rectifier.The system efficiency is estimated to be 76% by sophisticated measurement of the actual heating power, which is based on Lissajous's figures for voltage and charge.

To lower the burden on the global environment, renewable energy resources are increasingly being integrated to power systems, in particular, a great deal of photovoltaics (PVs) in Japan are expected to be installed on the roof-top of residential houses. However, this will make the supply-demand balance control and the voltage control of a power system difficult. A measure to reduce this impact is consuming excess power in local area where PVs are located.We have developed a control algorithm for adjusting the operating pattern of multiple heat pump water heaters as a group to maximize the consumption of excess power of PVs in local area. The problem was formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem, and the tabu search method was applied as a meta-heuristics solution. The result of a case study for group control of six consumers that used the same low-voltage transformer showed an operating pattern that has the following features. First, the consumption of excess PV power was maximized. Second, the consumption of commercial electric power was minimized. We also compared the result by controlling a group of six consumers with the result by controlling of six consumers that had been controlled individually, and showed that the consumption of PV excess power was increased by 46% at the same level of commercial electric power consumption.

This paper deals with the speed-up effect of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control for vehicle applications. A photovoltaic panel is set on a car running on a city road and its static characteristics are recorded by the proposed high-speed measurement system. The effectiveness of MPPT controllers with various sampling frequencies is evaluated with the recorded data by simulation. In the car application, a higher sampling frequency achieves higher MPPT efficiency.

Metal foil eddy currents induced with flat (stacked spiral) induction coils are calculated numerically using an almost exact approach. Edge bake phenomena of metal foils are investigated to develop a new all-over heat adhesion method. As our aim, this approach is constructed with basic formulas for theoretically analyzing the induction heating phenomena. Fundamental equations in electromagnetic theory are used and a calculation method of self-inductance is developed using the Neumann's formula. These results can be applied to certification of various computer simulations by software on the market concerned with the eddy current.

Analysis of lightning electromagnetic field using the FDTD method have been studied in recent year. However, large-scale three-dimensional analysis on real environment have not been considered, because the FDTD method has huge computational cost on large-scale analysis. So we have proposed a three-dimensional moving window FDTD (MW-FDTD) method with parallel computation. Our method use few computational cost than the conventional FDTD method and the original MW-FDTD method. In this paper, we have studied about computation performance of MW-FDTD parallel computation and large-scale three-dimensional analysis of lightning electromagnetic field on a real terrain model using our MW-FDTD with parallel computation.

Gas circuit breaker and vacuum circuit breaker are the 2 main types of circuit breaker used in extra high voltage and medium voltage networks. After reviewing the history of these circuit breakers, their present status and technologies are described. As for future technology, computation of interrupting phenomena, SF6 gas less apparatus and expectation of the high voltage vacuum circuit breaker are discussed.

This paper presents capacity planning and economical evaluation of a renewable power system proposed for Okushiri Island, which is a remote island in the southwest of Hokkaido. In this system, the power demand is mainly provided by photovoltaic, wind turbine. Batteries are used as short time energy storage, and a hydrogen storage system (composed of water electrolyzer, hydrogen storage, and fuel cell) is used as long time energy storage. Optimal capacities of these power sources are those meet the required supply reliability, with the lowest cost. As the first step in the capacity planning, mathematical models for characterizing components are explained. The second step is to optimize the capacities of components. The configurations, which meet the required supply reliability with the lowest cost, give the optimal choices. These calculations are carried out with hourly meteorological data and energy demand data of Okushiri Island. As a result, hybrid storage (battery and hydrogen) is the best choice for Okushiri Island when high supply reliability is required. In the range of loss of power supply probability 0.1 to 0, the levelized cost of energy will be about 70-150yen/kWh.

The School of Engineering of Osaka University and the Department of electrical and electronic engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology, coordinated and conducted survey for university students, students and teachers of high schools in order to realize effective activities of enlightenment for high school students. From the results of survey, it was suggested that the high-school teachers the most influential to high-school students. One of the promising contents in open lecture for high school students was the recent advanced technology allowing for the content of the science subjects in high school.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology introduced the recording notebook in the graduation work to understand status of practice and fulfillment of students. Using the recording notebook, the students record practice time and evaluate monthly self-fulfillment. Teachers can guide students based on the record and the self-fulfillment. The system using the recording notebook will help quality assurance of education in the graduation work.

To motivate students in classes by establishment of interactive communication between the students and a teacher, we provided construction-type slides to the students before lectures through a e-learning system and randomly assigned students questions to fill the construction-type slides in the lectures. From comparison between the same classes in two years which were performed with and without this educational method, score in examination was found to be slightly high in the class with this method. In addition, lecture evaluation questionnaires to the students revealed that this method surely motivated students and stimulated participation in the lecture.

Hall elements as mass production magnetic sensors are new application area for thin film technology such as vacuum deposition and MB E. Highly sensitive InSb thin film Hall elements formed by vacuum deposition are often applied as magnetic sensors for DC brushless motors used in electronic equipment. InAs Hall elements developed and produced by MBE have high sensitivity and stability over a wide temperature range and have potential for the present and future applications required by many electronic systems. Here, we review the recent status of application, production and the good characteristics of thin film Hall elements for use as magnetic sensors.

We have developed an eye-gaze input system for people with severe physical disabilities, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients. This system utilizes a personal computer and a home video camera to detect eye-gaze under natural light. The system detects both vertical and horizontal eye-gaze by simple image analysis, and does not require special image processing units or sensors. We also developed the platform for eye-gaze input based on our system.In this paper, we propose a new web browsing system for physically disabled computer users as an application of the platform for eye-gaze input. The proposed web browsing system uses a method of direct indicator selection. The method categorizes indicators by their function. These indicators are hierarchized relations; users can select the felicitous function by switching indicators group. This system also analyzes the location of selectable object on web page, such as hyperlink, radio button, edit box, etc. This system stores the locations of these objects, in other words, the mouse cursor skips to the object of candidate input. Therefore it enables web browsing at a faster pace.

Dynamics of ablation of fused silica by multiwavelength excitation process using F<sub>2</sub> and KrF excimer laser has been investigated by energy analyzed mass spectrometry of ablated species. The number of generated Si<sup>+</sup> ion by multiwavelength excitation process corresponds to that by single-F<sub>2</sub> laser ablation and to approximately 2.1 times higher than that by single-KrF excimer laser ablation. In addition, kinetic energy distribution of Si<sup>+</sup> ablated by multiwavelength excitation process shows almost same as that by single-F<sub>2</sub> laser ablation. We regard that absorption of KrF excimer laser by excited state generated by F<sub>2</sub> laser (excited-state absorption: ESA) causes effective photoionization, resulting in enhancement of Si<sup>+</sup> with higher kinetic energy and then in high-quality ablation.

Term Rewriting System (TRS) is one of the simplest computation models for functional programming languages. It can also be used to model term manipulation required in program verification and transformation. In such applications, an environment for term rewriting with user friendly graphical interface is strongly required for analyzing structure of terms and rewriting processes. Most TRS interpreters developed so far are text, based ones, and hence they do not provide sufficient supports for analyzing structure of terms. We have proposed a new idea for a term visualization based on Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) [11] [12]. This paper shows how to realize the idea with the functional programming language Standard ML (SML). We illustrate the implementation can be easily modified and extended since the rewriting part and GUI part of the program are clearly separated owing to the module system of SML.
