A solid-state pulse generator has been developed to be applicable to drive a high power pulse laser. The new technology provids a promising mean to replace the thyratrons.The pulse generator is constructed with series and parallel connection of MOS FET (Maximum Rating; 1, 000V, 8A) without any saturable reactors for sharpening the current pulse waveform. With 60-parallel and 20-series connected of FETs, the characteristics of the pulse generator are that the switching time is 38ns, the rate of rise of the current pulse is 20A/ns, and that the jitter of the turn-on time to the input signal is ±0.42ns.Appling the pulse generator with 120-parallel and 30-series connected of FETs to a 80mm bore copper vapor laser, the laser power obtained is 112W when switched pulse energy is 2J with a repetition rate of 5kHz.

In developing Cyber Physical Systems such as smart grid and smart cities, risk management technologies plays an important role on providing safe and secure service. In this paper, focusing on changes of recent threats, we show that an approach by the information security psychology is valuable for the risk management of the system.

We investigated method to osmose water and seasoner to dried soybeans fast by pulsed electric field, in order to make soybeans a processed food fast. By applying the pulsed electric field to the dried soybeans in water, osmosis time of water to the soybean became approximately half. Then the emission of the discharge was observed on dried soybean. The color of coffee permeated more into the soybean treated than no-treated by the pulsed electric field.

The increased renewable energy utilization, especially photovoltaic panels using solar energy or wind turbine generators (WTGs) using wind energy, has been expected in recent years from view point of CO2 gas emission reduction and environmental conservation. However, the generated power is always fluctuating because the WTGs are driven by fluctuating wind. Therefore, an energy storage system should be installed to compensate these fluctuating elements. The energy capacitor system (ECS) which combined the electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC) and the electronic circuits are now under development. In this paper, control system configuration for active and reactive output power simultaneous control and the bi-directional inverter using current source EDLC are proposed. Moreover, we discusse control methods required in generating-power leveling for WTGs, and show the effectiveness of the proposed system through simulations.

In motion control applications, servo drive systems have widely applied to various load systems with complicated mechanisms. A robot arm with flexible joints is one of typical examples and it forms multi-mass resonant systems which generate mechanical vibration. Since such vibration gives tracking errors in motion and/or increase of settling time, the vibration suppression is indispensable to achieve the high performance robot arm motion. Many schemes such as model-based feedforward control and modern control theory-based feedback control have been proposed to overcome those problems.This paper presents a new feedforward control scheme using optimal control command shaping to suppress the resonant vibration in robot arm motion. By analyzing characteristics of the conventional position controller with the S-shaped position command, an optimal command design can be examined to eliminate the resonant vibration. Based on these analyses, a new command shaping algorithm is proposed. The proposed feedforward scheme can obtain the same vibration suppression characteristics as those by the conventional feedback schemes, regardless of the simple input position command shaping. Experimental results with a prototype show an effectiveness of the proposed control.

We have newly developed two types of 15" high resolution non-glasses 3-D displays, the one is no cross-talk 3-D display using the double image splitter technology and the other is 2-D/3-D full compatible display using the image splitter and the controllable scattering shutter technology. In this time, in the 2-D/3-D full compatible display, controllable scattering shutter is united with image splitter in order to realize simple construction and short viewing distance of the non-glasses 3-D image. Those displays adopted newly developed head tracking system. The head tracking system detects the viewer's head position without special attachment and adjusts the images automatically. So it can expands the stereoscopic area. With this combination of larger screen, higher resolution and head tracking system, the display enables viewer to have more realistic and enjoyable images.

In this study, we investigated expressive facial reactions in response to changes in the visual environment and their automatic extraction from sensors, in order to construct a comfortable level of illumination in personal living spaces. We conducted an experiment that showed that expressive facial reactions occur when illumination in the visual environment changes. We captured facial images and manually classified them as expressing or not expressing discomfort. We then conducted a second experiment that showed that automatic image processing can be used to extract and identify these expressive facial reactions. We extracted facial features and used a support vector machine to learn the classification in this experiment.

Non-destructive, two-dimensional distribution measurement of rusting under opaque anticorrosion paint was carried out, using a terahertz camera, a quantum cascade laser, and a galvanic scanner. The measurement speed of the present method was found to be 11 times faster than the conventional raster scanning method based on time-domain spectroscopy. A signal to noise ratio exceeding 10<sup>2</sup> was confirmed for both systems, which enables detection of minor rusting.

A digital book has become popular along with the popularization of electronic medium. It is needed that assessment of not only subjective assessment about readability or usability, but also objective assessment of psychosomatic health impact. The objective of this study is an objective assessment of physiological and psychological effects of reading books using electronic or paper medium. This paper focused on hemodynamic parameters. The measurement item was VAS and POMS as a psychological index and hemodynamics parameters as a physiological index. As a result, low vigorous and unreadable were significantly recognized (p<0.05) in reading a book using an electronic medium comparing with a paper medium. Cardiovascular system became active coping because of sympathetic hyperactivity in the hemodynamic reaction. By contrast, using an electronic medium did not fit into stress coping. It was also found that parasympathetic nervous system enhanced with illegibility of the sentence and fatigue by usinig an electronic medium. For all of these results, it became identified a difference in a way to manage in physiologically with reading a book using an electronic and paper medium.

Plants have the capability to purify various atmospheric chemicals. There are, however, few studies on the plant purification-characteristics. In this paper, the purification capability of pothos plant for formaldehyde was investigated. Formaldehyde is one of the typical chemical substances, which cause a sick-building syndrome. The purification capability (Pa) was introduced using a tin oxide gas sensor-output. The experiment was conducted for six different soils. It is recognized that the purification capabilities considerably differ according to the kinds of soils. Namely, the soils, which are mixed with the porous materials such as ceramics, tend to have the high capability. It became obvious that room temperature had also the effects on the purification capability. The optimum temperature, at which the plant had the high capability, was about 22°C.

Renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic generation (PV) have been promoted to be innovated. However, the output of PV is influenced by the weather condition and cause a steep fluctuation. So it is important to forecast the output of PV when an electric power company makes the power supply schedule for demand. In this paper, the authors proposed a forecasting method for amount of insolation closely related to the output of PV. In the proposed method, the amount of insolation is forecasted through the application of Genetic Algorithm which is one of the optimization method by using the past measured data. In addition, the correlation coefficients are analyzed with the weather data and measured insolation data. And, the correlation coefficients are used as the weight of observe value. The authors verify the validity and prediction accuracy of the proposed method. Moreover, we tried to improve the forecasting error by using the latest measured weather data and weather data of the other point.
