This paper presents an interactive face retrieval framework for clarifying an image representation envisioned by a user. Our system is designed for a situation in which the user wishes to find a person but has only visual memory of the person. We address a critical challenge of image retrieval across the user's inputs. Instead of target-specific information, the user can select several images that are similar to an impression of the target person the user wishes to search for. Based on the user's selection, our proposed system automatically updates a deep convolutional neural network. By interactively repeating these process, the system can reduce the gap between human-based similarities and computer-based similarities and estimate the target image representation. We ran user studies with 10 participants on a public database and confirmed that the proposed framework is effective for clarifying the image representation envisioned by the user easily and quickly.

We present a liver surgery simulator using full-HD autostereoscopic displays. We have developed two kinds of autostereoscopic displays to keep on showing a full-HD 3D image to a viewer who moves freely in front of the display. One is a 3D display based on time-division multiplexing directional backlight and the other is a 3D display based on time-division multiplexing parallax barrier. We have applied the developed simulator using the 3D displays with different specifications to the education of medical students. The result of the questionnaires suggests that 3D visualization is effective and that reduction of crosstalk plays an important role to promote medical use of 3D displays.

This paper introduces BumpMarker: a 3D-printed tangible marker that can perform simultaneous tagging, position tracking, and weight measurement of objects on pressure sensor sheets. The markers baseplate features several pins (raised dots) whose locations encode embedded information. A matrix pressure sensor sheet captures the pressure map of a marker-attached object on a sheet. The embedded data and object weight can be retrieved by processing the pressure map. We propose our design to achieve robust detection of the pins. We also show that our system has the ability to monitor weight changes in tagged objects. Through a series of evaluations, we investigate the technical feasibility of BumpMarker.

Random telegraph noise (RTN) that occurs at in-pixel source follower (SF) transistors and column amplifier is one of the most important issues in CMOS image sensors (CIS) and reducing RTN is a key to the further development of CIS. In this paper, we clarified the influence of transistor shapes on RTN from statistical analysis of SF transistors with various gate shapes including rectangular, trapezoidal and octagonal structures by using an array test circuit. From the analysis of RTN parameter such as amplitude and the current-voltage characteristics by the measurement of a large number of transistors, the influence of shallow trench isolation (STI) edge on channel carriers and the influence of the trap location along source-drain direction are discussed by using the octagonal SF transistors which have no STI edge and the trapezoidal SF transistors which have an asymmetry gate width at source and drain side.

Tracking objects at a distance is a problem in wide area surveillance. This paper introduces a realtime active vision system that can track a moving object from 1 to 200 meters. This visual servo system is mainly structured with three mechanical freedoms: pan, tilt and zoom. An eagle eye mechanism is proposed to obtain a wide field of view and high resolution on the target. A fusion scheme has also been developed that combines the results of the three separate zoom cameras to detect and track remote targets. A high performance pan-tilt unit and an algorithm of high frequency motor control are proposed to achieve smooth tracking. The experiments of tracking a person walking outdoors and indoors have been carried out. The results show that this system is valid for tracking in a wide area.

地上デジタル放送への完全移行後は,アナログ,デジタル並行放送期間中に暫定的に使用されていた710~770MHz までの周波数帯域から470~710MHz までの周波数帯域への周波数の移行(強制リパック)や,受信品質を確保できない一部のデジタル放送送信親局,および中継局の周波数の移行(改善リパック)があり,効率的な周波数移行と受信対策を行う必要があった.受信機が雑音の少ない信号を選択する性質を利用し,ISDB-T方式のワンセグ部分に送信側からノイズを付加すると確実に固定受信機が新しい波に移行することを確認し,「ワンセグノイズ付加法」と名付け実験,検証を行った.この方式では,固定受信の品質を損なうことなくリパックが可能で,全国の対象局所で多用され,対策期間,規模の縮小と受信者の不利益を最小限に押さえることに貢献したと言える.なお,この手法は,今後のデジタル置局計画や混信回避等による周波数変更にも引き続き有効な手法である.

本稿では,漢字画像の特徴が漢字一文字を用いたRSVP実験における注意の瞬き現象に与える影響を検討した.画像特徴量として,漢字画像の離散コサイン変換(DCT)を用いてDCT係数による2種類の指標を導入した.すなわち,DCT係数でのDC成分で表される画像の平均輝度に相当する値と,画像間にDCT符号相関を適用して算出する画像間類似度である.これらの指標とRSVP実験での注意の瞬き現象との関係を分析した.その結果,時系列での画像特徴の変化によって,注意の瞬きの生起に影響することを確認した.具体的には,ターゲットと妨害刺激の漢字画像間での輝度変化や類似度変化の極性によって,注意の瞬きが抑制されることを明かにした.

Three channels, which will cease to be used for analog satellite broadcasting in July 2011 and 4 channels of the BS-17 19, 21, and 23ch, which were assigned to Japan at the WRC-2000, will be used for new digital broadcasting services after 2011. In these channels, a new broadcasting system called "Advanced Digital Satellite Broadcasting System" will be available as well as the current ISDB-S one. The new system can increase transmission bit rate by 30%compared with the current ISDB-S system by using LDPC codes and a roll-off factor of 0.1. The Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) conducted evaluation tests to acquire its C/N-BER and synchronous performance as well as confirm how well the TMCC signal functions. Demonstrative tests to transmit Super Hi-Vision were also performed. The tests were done using a satellite simulator and a real satellite transponder. The tests showed that the system performed very well, and the details are reported here.

イスラム模様を入力カラー画像の上に描いたようなイスラム模様風画像を生成するノンフォトリアリスティックレンダリングの方法を提案する.提案法は,まず入力カラー画像にインパルスノイズを規則的に加え,その後係数シフトバイラテラルフィルタを拡張した係数シフトカラーバイラテラルフィルタをかけることでイスラム模様を発生させる.提案法の有効性を検証するため,様々なカラー画像を用いた実験を行い,生成されるイスラム模様風画像の見栄えを視覚的に確認する.

We developed a high mobility polycrystalline oxide semiconductor, IGO (Indium Gallium Oxide), which is the crystalline In<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> based random orientation polycrystalline material. The polycrystalline IGO has two unique characteristics. One is the high mobility with a wide window for fabrication process and the property is much stable. The other is the wet etching tolerance which enables the merged photolithography process. In spite of the low temperature process below 300°C, the mobility of polycrystalline IGO TFT was over 20cm<sup>2</sup>/Vs with the standard deviation smaller than 1cm2/Vs and the shift of the threshold voltage after positive bias temperature stress (Vg=Vd=15V, 10, 000s) was smaller than 0.3V. These results imply that the interruption of carrier conductivity at the grain boundaries of polycrystalline structure can be neglected with respect to the TFT characteristics and the reliability. From these properties, we concluded that the polycrystalline IGO is one of the promising channel materials for the backplane TFT of future OLED displays.

Recently, augmented reality (AR) by using a projector, which is often called projection-based AR, has been focused on and widely studied. We propose a projection-based AR system, named "Lumipen" for a high-speed or high-frequency object, using a 1000-fps vision sensor and a high-speed optical axis controller. Conventional research on projection-based AR has mainly focused on static objects or circumstances. In our system, the projected direction and projected image can be controlled based on the dynamic object behavior detected by a 1000-fps vision sensor. Instead of a rotational basement, the high-speed optical axis controller is an essential subsystem to catch up with the speed of the 1000-fps vision sensor. Lumipen is expected to provide high-quality visual information addition even in dynamic live content (e.g. a play, sport game, music concert) similar to CG in video content.

We have developed a single-chip HDTV encoder LSI for H.264/AVC High422P@L4.1 that is optimized for broadcasting transport systems. Significant bit-rate reduction around 50% or more relative to MPEG-2 can be achieved by originally developed motion vector coding algorithm and subjective quality enhancement through adaptive bit allocation considering human visual system. It also enables low-delay encoder implementation with at shortest 50ms encoding delay, with advanced coding control that optimizes the balance of buffering delay and coded image quality as well as variable delay time control mechanism. We adopt a hierarchical multi-CPU framework and CPU interface those enable flexible encoder control per GOP/Picture/MB, to realize various image quality and encoding delay adjustments. This LSI is fabricated in a 90-nm CMOS process and can be integrated in a 9x9 mm<sup>2</sup> chip.
