As shown in Fig. 1, the spines on the dorsal surface of the Japanese topshell, <i>Turbo cornutus</i>, a-e usually divided into four types according to their position. In June 1949 the writer liberated 258 topshells into an artificial pool 15m×7m wide in Kominato Marine Biological Laboratory, Chiba prefecture. Here the environment, from the standpoint of salinity, current, bottom. character and available food, was not as suitable for this species as was its natural habitat. In June 1950, 58 specimens were recollected from the pool. Observing their spines, it was found that peculiar changes had occurred during the year of transplantation into the artificial pool, asshown in Tables I and 2. The groups produced shell spines that lower in position (A→B, A→C. and O→C) are proved to be superior in increased weight and length of shell (Tables 3 and 4). nes, the upper spine being related to excurrent action, the lower to incurrent action. Anatomical observations on this snail (Fig. 2) and on the parasitic gastropod, <i>Amalthea conica</i> (Table 5). bear out this conclusion.

We had the experiments on after effect of 250 D 2/6 (Upper twist: 63 and lower twist: 115 for lenght 20cm), 2/4 (Upper twist: 76, lower twist: 121) and 3/6 (Upper twist: 62, lower twist 113) amilan cords heated up to various temperature.<br> From this experiments the results obtained are as follows;<br> (1) Elongation of 250 D 2/6 amilan cord under constant tention increases the temperature-rises for high temperature than 100°C (Fig. 1.1 and Fig. 2.1).<br> (2) As seen in Fig. 1.2 and Fig. 2.2 inflexional points of elongation of 250 D 2/6 amilan cord due change of tension has been found about 1.5 and 3.5kg respectively. The relation between of tension and variability of elongation, as shown in Fig. 3, these curves has a minimum of variability at about 2.0kg.<br> (3) Tensile strength and elongation of 250 D 2/6, 3/6 and 2/4 amilan cords decrease with the temperature-rises, and variability of tensile strength increases with the temperature, but variability of elongation decreases: the tensile strength of amilan cords fells in proportion as temperature increases, and then the tensile strength of its cords has somewhat unequal, while the deviation of elongation (at break) fades.

In the ordinary and the red meats of "Higan-Buri" (yellowtail, <i>Seriola quinqueradiata</i>, caught in spring), it was found that the yields (%) of cerebrone sulfuric ester (CSE) from the red meat was higher than that from the ordinary one, and the unsaturation of component fatty acids of CSE from the former was higher than that from the latter.<br> In both types of meat, a main sugar of CSE was galactose while a minor one, glucose.

ツクシトビウオの成熟と産卵の実態を明らかにする目的で, 定置網, まき網, 船曳網の漁獲物について性比, GSI, 卵径の測定, 卵巣の組織観察等を行った。岸側の漁獲物では漁期初めに雌の割合が低く, その割合は徐々に高まった。沖側では漁期を通じて約80%が雌であった。GSIは岸側で低く, 沖側で高かった。卵巣内には今後排卵されると思われる卵群の他に発達するであろうと考えられる卵群の分離が見られた。また, 最大の卵径は岸で小さく, 沖で大きい傾向を示し, 岸側の卵巣では97%の高い比率で排卵後濾胞が認められた。ツクシトビウオは産卵期に雌雄別群として来遊し, 最初雄が接岸し, 後から成熟した雌が接岸して産卵が行わると考えられ, 1産卵期中に複数回産卵を行っていると推察された。Investigations were carried out by using the samples caught with set nets, seine nets, and boat seines from 1992 to 1996. Most of the catches with set nets, operated in the near shore, were male in the early fishing season, and according with passage of fishing season the female ratio increased gradually. Eighty percent of the catches with seine nets, operated in the offshore, were female. GSI of females was higher in the catches of the offshore than the near shore. The frequencies of the oocyte diameter showed that ovaries have a small and middle sized oocyte group, and large sized maturing oocyte groups. Ovaries of the offshore catches have large sized oocytes, and ovaries of the near shore catches have small and middle sized oocytes or the transparent oocytes remaining unspwned at the latest spawning. Ninty seven percent of the female catches in the near shore have postovulatory folicles in the ovaries. These results show that the male and female come to the north west coastal waters of Kyusyu in spawning season as separate groups : the male is in the near shore, the female is in the offshore. When ripened, the female go to the near shore for spawning, and immediately after spawning come back to the offshore. The spawning times of C. heterurus doederleini are thought to be at least twice during a spawning season.

麻痺性貝毒により毒化した養殖マガキの無毒化を目的として,貝毒原因プランクトンAlexandrium tamarenseによって毒化したマガキ(26~30MU/g)を,ろ過して貝毒原因プランクトンを除去した海水を流下させた水槽で垂下蓄養し,毒の減少過程を調べた。供試したマガキの毒力は,5日後には規制値(4MU/g)以下となり,毒化したマガキを,ろ過海水中で数日間飼育することで,毒力が規制値以下となって生鮮貝としての出荷が可能となることが示された。

We examined the effectiveness of removal by angling in order to control the population size of the invasive exotic bluegill in Hananoko Lake, Gifu, Japan. A total of 15, 966 individuals were caught by angling. Estimates based on a mark-recapture method revealed that the population size was reduced from 24, 231 to 10, 092 individuals over 15 months of population control. The change in the size distribution suggested that removal by angling not only reduced the number of potentially mature individuals but also decreased the recruitment of juvenile fish. This evidence indicates that removal by angling could control the population size of the bluegill, although a complete extermination by angling alone may be difficult.

刃物の刃先角度は切れ味を決める重要な要素であり, 刃物の切れ味を把握するためには, 刃先角度を正確に計測する必要がある。本論文では, 光の反射原理を応用した刃先角度を計測するシステムを開発し, その計測精度について検討した。結果の概要は次のとおりである。1. 3種類7本の片刃の刃先角度を計測したところ, 刃物各部の刃先角度は不均一であった。手仕上げ作業が原因と考えられる。2.レーザ光のビーム拡がりによる計測精度への影響は小さく, 実測の誤差は0.1度であった。3.本計測システムの使用により, 刃物の加工工程での抜取り検査が可能となり, 出荷品の均一化に寄与できる。The cutting edge angle of a knife is an important factor, affecting the cutting performance. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the cutting edge angle of a fresh fish knife comparing to cutting performance. This paper described a new measuring system of cutting edge angle using a laser light, and the measuring precision. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The cutting edge angle of seven single-edge knives of three kinds, was not uniform, which might be the result of handwork. 2. The influence of laser light beam diffusion on measuring precision is very small. The measurement error was about 0.1°. 3. It is possible to use the method for sampling inspection in the production process, and it makes a major contribution to the uniformity of the products.

A. catenellaの増殖に及ぼすB群ビタミンの影響をバッチ培養系において調べた。本藻はB群ビタミンのうちビタミンB_<12>を増殖に必須に要求し, 増殖のB_<12>半飽和定数(Kμ)は0.22ng/L, 最大比増殖速度(μ'm)は0.55 day^<-1>, 最小細胞内B_<12>含量(q_0)は0.65fg/cell, 単位細胞体積当たりのB_<12>含量は27分子/μm^3と算出された。本藻は, 他の栄養物質が充足されている場合, 富栄養化の進んだ沿岸・内湾域のようにB_<12>供給量が多い海域では最大に近い比増殖速度で増殖できると考えられた。また, Kμ, μ'mを他の赤潮プランクトンと比較した結果, 本藻は低B_<12>濃度下で一部の赤潮プランクトンよりも優位に増殖できると推察された。Physiological growth characteristics of Alexandrium catenella (Whedon et Kofoid) Balech, toxic dinoflagellate, were examined in axenic, batch cultures with specific reference to B group vitamin requirements. A. catenella required essentially vitamin B_<12> among the B group vitamins for their growth. It was found that growth rates and final cell yields were dependent on the vitamin B_<12> concentrations in the media. Under the conditions of our batch culture experiments, the half-saturation constant for growth of vitamin B_<12>(Kμ) and maximum growth rate (μ'm) were 0.22ng/L and 0.55 day^<-1>, respectively. The minimum cell quota of vitamin B_<12> was estimated at 0.65 fg/cell or 27 molecules/(μm)^3 of the cell volume. In this experiment, A. catenella could grow at almost a maximum growth rate at high vitamin B_<12> levels of eutrophied coastal waters. The comparison of Kμ and μ'm between A. catenella and other red-tide species suggests that this organism can win competition with some red-tide species under low B_<12> concentrations.

1993年6月&acd;1995年11月にかけて, 利根川水系鬼怒川の小支流において, イワナ, ヤマメの生息数, 当歳魚の移動分散, 成長の季節変化を調査した。3ヶ年の総採捕個体のうち, イワナは81.4%(1073個体中873個体), ヤマメは98.8%(244個体中241個体)が当歳魚であった。ヤマメ当歳魚は2月から採捕され, 8月以降はほとんど採捕されなかった。これに対して, イワナ当歳魚は3月から採捕され, 6月以降は1回の調査あたりの採捕数の変化はなかった。一方, 1995年に鬼怒川本流で採捕調査を行ったところ, 採捕された当歳魚のうちイワナが8.0%, ヤマメが92.0%を占め, ヤマメ当歳魚が優占した。以上の結果から, 小支流は特にイワナ当歳魚にとって重要な成育場所であると考えられた。We investigated the seasonal changes in number, dispersal and growth of juvenile Japanese charr Salvelinus leucomaenis and masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou masou in the Karatakisawa Stream, a small tributary of the Kinu River in central Japan. 873 (81.4%) of a total 1073 charr caught by monthly sampling from 1993 to 1995 were age-0,and 241 (98.8%) of a total 244 salmon were age-0. Most of the newly emerged age-0 salmon were caught in the spring of 1995. They shifted downstream, and the number of fish decreased markedly by early summer. The number of the age-0 charr caught at any sampling from any month did not decrease until the end of autumn, although the distribution of the age-0 charr shifted downstream. In contrast, of a total 387 age-0 fish captured by samplings in the adjacent Kinu River in 1995,356 (92.0%) were salmon, whereas only 31 (8.0%) were charr. These results suggest that small tributaries play an important role as nursery habitats, especially for Japanese charr.
