Host responses against mycobacterial infection result in protection and granulomatous inflammation. Mycobacterial and host factors participate in the process. Mycobacteria are rich in lipids that may be involved in the pathogenesis. Host responses against the infection include both cell-mediated immune responses (host defense) and delayed-type hypersensitivity (expression of lesions) . A surface glycolipid of tubercle bacilli acts as both nonspecific inflammatory stimulus and specific T cell-dependent immunogen. Hosts produce chemokines, proinflammatory and immunoregulatory cytokines in response to glycolipids. The event leads to the recruitment of mononuclear cells, angiogenesis, and apoptosis. Mycobacterial glycolipid is a pleiotropic molecule, which induces pathogenesis and protective responses in the host. The pathogenesis of mycobacterial disease is a multistep process, involving a complex interaction between a range of bacterial and host factors.

There are several things interfering with the implementation of Quality Engineering in R&D and production departments. I am in charge of promoting implementation of Quality Engineering in Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. Therefore, I have heard many criticisms about Quality Engineering by engineers and managers. I would like to talk about "things interfering with the implementation of Quality Engineering". The reason I chose it as the last theme for my series is because it is important to organize and analyze them in order to spread Quality Engineering.

都内, 近県の2医科大学生1,470名, 4看護専門学校生692名に対し喫煙に関するアンケート調査を実施し, 次の結果を得た.<BR>1) 喫煙率は医学生全学年35.4%, 看学生12.5%, 医学生1~3年28.7%と差があり, 医学生高学年の喫煙率は高く, その要因は不安やストレスと推測した.<BR>2) 医学生は喫煙の有害性の知識が禁煙に結びつかないが, 看学生は, 知識を得ることにより禁煙を行った者が多い.<BR>3) ブリンクマン指数の重回帰分析の結果, 医学生の場合は, 年齢, 性, 母の喫煙が重要な要因となり, 禁煙運動の推進には, ストレスからの解放, 喫煙率の高い男子学生重点の指導, 母の禁煙が重要であると示唆された. 看学生の場合は決定係数も小さく取り上げられる要因も少なかった.

In the last edition, I explained that we used the SN Ratio to show system functionabilities and dispersions of output characteristics in "Quality Engineering". ln this edition, I would like to explain how we should evaluate the functionabilities and the dispersions in various conditions. When people evaluate the characteristic dispersions, they make many samples repeatedly, and wait for random errors to occur. However, engineers who know Robust Design forcefully change the levels of noise(the causes of dispersion) and input signal to see how the output actually vary.

本論では,ザカート(喜捨)を原資とする社会基金であるバイトゥル・マルを事例として,日本占領期ジャワにおけるイスラーム教理の制度化の歴史的背景を考察した.分析の結果,バンドゥン県のイトゥル・マルの導入というイスラーム教義の制度化は,ウィラナタクスマのロイスの構想とエリート官吏としての指導力,困窮者救済を義務とするイスラームの教理,そしてジャワ軍政当局のイスラーム対策の構造的欠陥と住民の動員・統制の必要性―という3つの歴史的条件が重なって行なわれたことが明らかになった.また,1942 年6月という軍政初期に導入されたバンドゥン県のバイトゥル・マルは,その規模や機能は限定的とはいえ,ジャワ軍政における事実上はじめての大衆組織としての性格をもっていたことが指摘された.

In spite of strict laws prohibiting it, criminal cases involving marijuana abuse are increasing, resulting in a serious social problem in Japan. The most common method of ingestion is smoking, since abusers feel that this method produces quick psychological effects controversial. Marijuana is known to induce psychological addiction, but it's genotoxic effects are still argued. Marijuana smoking tar has been extracted from seized pipes. The amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in the tar were weighed and the mutagenic activity was tested.The results are as follows:1) Five of the seven PAHs were detected in marijuana tar, although benzo (e) pyrene and perylene were not.2) There was more pyrene than any other substance detected in the tar, with fluoranthene having the next highest concentration.3) Mutagenic activity was observed in all samples, with relative mutagenic potency ranging from 0.03 to 1.59.4) The type of smoking pipe and burning temperature may affect the mutagenic activity and the amount of PAH.5) Since marijuana smoking tar contains carcinogens, promoters, and mutagens, there is a risk of developing cancer just as in the case of tobacco.

In order to teach and work effectively at survey and photogrammetry, one should understand basic semiological abbreviations which derived form foreign languages to Japan. This paper describes that several technical abbreviations in surveying correspond closely with Dutch words which were imported into Japan in the Edo era (1600-1867) .It was considered that, as established theory, symbols“B”and“L”were German abridgments of“Breite”and“Länge” (i.e. latitude and longitude), respectively, by force of making an amendment form French triangulation system to German triangulation system which had employed by the military serivice of Japan in 1882.Nevertheless, “B”and“L”also coincide with Dutch terms of“breedte”and“lengte..which were transfered to Japan at least since 1803. Moreover, it reveals that symbols“B”, “P”and“C”being utilised for eccentric triangulation might be said as abridgments of Dutch terms form“bevordelijk standpunt”for instrumental center, “piramidaale centrum”for center of measuring tower (namely“pyramid”) and“centrum van geodesische monument”for center of hurried mark, respectively.
