I have divided the translation of and commentary on Nan Taiheiki into two parts. In part one, I outlined the main concerns that influenced Ryōshun to write the text: the loyalty of the Imagawa to the ruling Ashikaga family, his frustration with Taiheiki (Chronicle of Great Peace), and his resentment toward Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The overarching theme of Nan Taiheiki, then, is the protection of the Imagawa legacy. In part two, I continue my analysis of this theme through an examination of Ryōshun’s description of Hosokawa Kiyouji and his rebellion against the Ashikaga. Ryōshun’s father Norikuni proposed a plan to the shogun that would have sacrificed his son in an attempt to kill Kiyouji and nip his rebellion in the bud. I then examine the significance of the Kamakura outpost, its overlord the Kantō kubō, and his deputy the kanrei for both Kiyouji’s rebellion, which took place as a result of the strife surrounding the position of kanrei, and later, for Ryōshun’s participation in the Ōei Disturbance, which resulted from the discord between Kyoto and Kamakura. What Ryōshun likely perceived as similarities between his participation in the Ōei Disturbance and Kiyouji’s rebellion motivated him to include the Kiyouji episodes in Nan Taiheiki. Accordingly, Nan Taiheiki demonstrates, through Kiyouji, how easy it was to fall from grace, and, through the idealistic origins of the Kamakura outpost, just how far the Ashikaga had fallen under Yoshimitsu’s rule.

Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine) is a most popular herbicide in agricultural practices throughout the world. It is possible that glyphosate spread in the ecosystems can reach plants, animals. The present work was directed to investigate the glyphosate residue in different organs of broiler chickens using ELISA and to study the possibility of its neutralisation using humic acid, Chlorella vulgaris and Saccharomyces boulardii. Results showed that glyphosate residues could be detected in the animal feed and different organs as liver, spleen, lung, intestine, heart, muscles and kidney. Humic acid, Chlorella vulgaris and Saccharomyces boulardii showed neutralization of the antimicrobial effect of glyphosate in vitro. Also, feed supplementation of commercial broiler with humic acid (0.2%) leads to a significant decrease in the glyphosate content, i.e. by 53%, 28%, 44%, 50%, 56%, 16%, 63% and 0% in serum, liver, spleen, lung, gastro-intestinal tract, heart, muscles and kidney, respectively. There were no significant effects of humic acid on the production parameters. This enlightenment will help to overcome the negative effect of glyphosate residues on gastrointestinal microbiota and protect consumers from glyphosate residues in chicken meat.

Background:Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA)-derived fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) is an established tool for identifying lesion-specific ischemia that is now approved for use by the Japanese insurance system. However, current clinical reimbursement is strictly limited to institutions with designated appropriate use criteria (AUC). This study assessed differences in physicians’ behavior (e.g., use and interpretation of FFRCT, final management) according to Japanese AUC and non-AUC site designation.Methods and Results:Of 5,083 patients in the ADVANCE Registry, 1,829 from Japan were enrolled in this study. Physicians’ behavior after interrogating CCTA and FFRCTwas analyzed separately according to AUC and non-AUC site designation. Compared with AUC sites, patients referred for FFRCTfrom non-AUC sites had a higher rate of negative FFRCT, less severe anatomic stenosis, and a slightly lower rate of management plan reclassification (51.2% vs. 61.3%), with near-identical utility in both groups. Actual care corresponded equally well to post-FFRCTplans in both groups. The likelihood of revascularization for positive or negative FFRCTwas similar between the 2 groups. Importantly, AUC and non-AUC sites were equally unlikely to revascularize patients with negative FFRCTand stenosis >50% or patients with positive FFRCTand stenosis <50%.Conclusions:Compared with AUC sites, non-AUC sites had lower disease burden and reclassification of management plans, but nearly identical clinical integration. Actual care corresponded equally well to post-FFRCTrecommendations at both sites.

Novel green-chemistry synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is introduced as a low-cost, rapid and easy-to-use analytical method for mercury ion detection. Aqueous fruit extract of water apple (Syzygium aqueum) was used for the first time as bioreductant to synthesize stable AgNPs. The prepared AgNPs have a yellowish-brown color with a surface plasmon resonance peak at 420 nm. The addition of Hg(II) ions then changes the AgNPs color to colorless. The color change was in proportion to the concentration of Hg(II) ions. The presence of other metal ions in the system was also evaluated. The proposed method shows good selectivity and sensitivity towards Hg(II) ions. Using UV-visible spectrophotometry, the detection limit of the developed method was 8.5 × 10−7 M. The proposed method has been successfully applied for determination of Hg(II) ions in tap and lake water samples with precision better than 5%.

フラクトオリゴ糖は医療用食品に理想的な発酵性食物繊維源である.医療用食品の典型は液体であり, 多くはチューブを介して患者に給与される.チューブから給与される液体医療用食品は粘度が低くなければならない.フラクトオリゴ糖は可溶性であり, 栄養チューブに詰まらず, 製剤の粘度を大きく上昇させることがない.医療用食品にフラクトオリゴ糖を使用する理論的根拠として腸管機能の正常化, 大腸完全性の維持, 腸管定着抵抗性の回復, 窒素排泄経路の変化, カルシウム吸収の改善が挙げられる.腸管機能の正常化とは, 医療用食品を給与されている患者での便秘または下痢の治療もしくは予防を指す.フラクトオリゴ糖は結腸内の細菌による嫌気性発酵と短鎖脂肪酸の産生を介して大腸萎縮の予防や遠位潰瘍性大腸炎の治療に有用と思われる.またビフィドバクテリウム属の増殖を選択的に助ける, またはある種の病原微生物の増殖を促進しない環境 (例: 短鎖脂肪酸濃度の上昇, pHの低下) を作ることから, 腸管定着抵抗性の回復に役立っ.フラクトオリゴ糖の嫌気性発酵では細菌細胞の成長と結腸pHの低下が起こるため, 窒素の排泄経路が尿から糞に移ると考えられる.カルシウム吸収が改善されるのは短鎖脂肪酸吸収と大腸pH低下が関与するメカニズムを介するためと思われる.総合すると, 液体製剤との適合性と患者に対する数多くの生理的利点が, 医療用食品にフラクトオリゴ糖を使用する十分な根拠となる.

"褌は本来表着であり,それを仕事着として受け継いでいるのが力士のまわしである.相撲の歴史は古く,わが国でも「古事記」等に記述が残っている.奈良・平安時代には天皇による節会相撲が行われ,武家時代は武士の心身の鍛練のために盛んであった.江戸時代には力士が職業となり,勧進相撲が行われ,明治末期に風俗や規則が確立されて今日に至っている.初期のまわしは,まわしと化粧まわしの区別がなく,平安時代には白い麻の犢鼻褌,武家時代は白と茜の麻であったが,江戸時代に力士が職業となると,素材として最高の絹が用いられるようになる.そして,デモンストレーション用として豪華な化粧まわしが分離するのである.また,紐衣の呪性も残され,特に横綱の衣装は前面を化粧まおしや横綱,四手等によって,後面は魂を結びこめた綱や化粧まわしの結びによって,幾重にも悪霊から身を守っている.一方,それはまた,力と地位を示すための最高の飾りでもある.以上のように,力士のまわしは形こそシンプルではあるが,紐衣の呪術性,褌の装飾性と機能性,結びの魂等,さまざまな要素が集約された最小にして最高の衣である.最後に,本研究にあたり貴重な資料の写真撮影をさせて頂き,また懇切な御助言を頂きました相撲博物館の方々および,力士の方々に深く感謝申し上げます."

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of laser acupuncture and electroacupuncture on postoperative pain and analgesic requirements in cats. In a prospective, randomized and blinded clinical study, thirty cats undergoing ovariohysterectomy were sedated with intramuscular (IM) ketamine (5 mg/kg), midazolam (0.5 mg/kg), and tramadol (2 mg/ kg). Before the induction of anesthesia, the animals were randomly distributed into three groups of ten cats each: LA: bilateral Stomach 36 (ST-36) and Spleen 6 (SP-6) acupoints were stimulated with an infrared laser; EA: bilateral ST-36 and SP-6 acupoints were stimulated with an electrical stimulus; Control: no acupuncture was applied. Postoperative analgesia was evaluated in the first 24 hr post-extubation using the Interactive Visual Analogue Scale and UNESP-Botucatu Multidimensional Composite Pain Scale. Rescue analgesia was provided with IM tramadol (2 mg/kg), and the pain scores were reassessed 30 min after the rescue intervention. If the analgesia remained insufficient, meloxicam (0.2 mg/kg IM, single dose) was administered. Data were analyzed using t-tests, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Friedman test. P<0.05 was considered significant. The pain scores did not significantly differ between the treatment groups at any time point (P>0.05). The prevalence of rescue analgesia was significantly higher in the Control group than in the LA and EA groups (P=0.033). Preoperative laser and electroacupuncture reduced the need for rescue analgesia during the first 24 hr after ovariohysterectomy.

Zygapophyseal, or facet, joints are complicated biomechanical structures in the spine, with a complex three-dimensional (3D) anatomy, variable mechanical functions in different spinal movements, and effects on the overall spine mechanical behavior. The 3D morphology of the facet joint is linked to its biomechanical function. Failure of the biomechanical function of the facet joint leads to osteoarthritic changes in it and is implicated in other spinal disorders such as degenerative spondylolisthesis. Facet joints and intervertebral discs are part of an entity called the spinal motion segment, the three-joint complex, or the articular triad. Functioning together, the structures in the spinal motion segments provide physiological spinal motion, while protecting the spine by preventing activities that can be injurious. Loss of intervertebral disk height associated with disk degeneration affects the mechanical behavior of facet joints. Axial compressive load transmission through the tip of the inferior articular process can occur in the extended position, especially with reduced disk height, which may cause capsular impingement and low back pain. The 3D curvature of the articular surfaces and capsular ligaments play important roles in different spinal positions. In this review article, we will summarize the anatomy of the lumbar facet joint relevant to its biomechanical function and biomechanical behavior under different loading conditions.
