Evaluation of the hemodynamics in the portal venous system plays an essential role in many hepatic pathologies. Changes in portal flow and vessel morphology are often indicative of disease.Routinely used imaging modalities, such as CT, ultrasound, invasive angiography, and MRI, often focus on either hemodynamics or anatomical imaging. In contrast, 4D flow MRI facilitiates a more comprehensive understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms by simultaneously and noninvasively acquiring time-resolved flow and anatomical information in a 3D imaging volume.Though promising, 4D flow MRI in the portal venous system is especially challenging due to small vessel calibers, slow flow velocities, and breathing motion. In this review article, we will discuss how to account for these challenges when planning and conducting 4D flow MRI acquisitions in the upper abdomen. We will address patient preparation, sequence acquisition, postprocessing, quality control, and analysis of 4D flow data.In the second part of this article, we will review potential clinical applications of 4D flow MRI in the portal venous system. The most promising area for clinical utilization is the diagnosis and grading of liver cirrhosis and its complications. Relevant parameters acquired by 4D flow MRI include the detection of reduced or reversed flow in the portal venous system, characterization of portosystemic collaterals, and impaired response to a meal challenge. In patients with cirrhosis, 4D flow MRI has the potential to address the major unmet need of noninvasive detection of gastroesophageal varices at high risk for bleeding. This could replace many unnecessary, purely diagnostic, and invasive esophagogastroduodenoscopy procedures, thereby improving patient compliance with follow-up. Moreover, 4D flow MRI offers unique insights and added value for surgical planning and follow-up of multiple hepatic interventions, including transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts, liver transplantation, and hepatic disease in children. Lastly, we will discuss the path to clinical implementation and remaining challenges.

Serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels increase with age. This elevation has been associated with better outcomes in very elderly subjects; however, little is known about the relationship between TSH below the lower limit of the reference range and health-related outcomes. Here, we investigated the association between cognitive impairment or depressive symptoms and low-normal serum TSH (<1.0 μIU/mL, in the reference range) in elderly subjects and whether the use of methimazole in subjects without dementia but with low-normal TSH could affect cognition or depressive symptoms. From 293 healthy adults ≥65 years old with normal TSH included in the sectional phase, only subjects without dementia were prospectively analyzed: 1) TSH ≥1.0 μIU/mL (observation; untreated); 2) TSH <1.0 μIU/mL (observation; untreated); and 3) TSH <1.0 μIU/mL (methimazole therapy). Cognition was assessed, using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and depressive symptoms (at MMSE ≥ 13) by the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Age >80 years was the sole independent factor associated with dementia (OR=2.89; confidence interval [CI] 1.72-4.86; p<0.01). Prospectively, 93 completed follow-up, with 7.5% (7) receiving methimazole intervention. Untreated subjects with lower TSH showed the greatest declines in MMSE scores during follow-up that was not observed in those with serum TSH ≥1.0 μIU/mL. Lower MMSE score reductions were associated with elderly subjects receiving methimazole. There were no significant changes in depressive symptoms and GDS scores among those with serum TSH <1.0 μIU/mL. In this study, low-normal TSH was not associated with higher prevalence of dementia. However, in elderly subjects without dementia, low TSH was associated with worsening cognition.

フィリピンのルソン島バタンガスで採集した輪紋症状を示すパパイヤ(Carica papaya)からウイルスの1分離株(PRSV-P-B)を得た。このウイルスを各種植物へ汁液接種したところ,全身感染したパパイヤ,ズッキーニ(Cucurbita pepo),メロン(Cucumis melo),シロウリ(Cucumis melo var. conomon),ニホンカボチャ(Cucurbita moschata),およびキュウリ(Cucumis sativus)と局所感染したC. amaranticolorの7種に感染した。電子顕微鏡観察ではパパイヤ病株や汁液接種したズッキーニに幅12nm,長さ700~800nmのひも状ウイルス粒子と細胞質封入体の破片とが認められた。PRSV-P-BはELISAでパパイヤ輪点ウイルス抗血清(ATCC)と陽性反応を,ズッキーニ黄斑モザイクウイルス抗血清(ATCC)および真岡哲夫博士より分譲を受けたパパイヤ奇形葉モザイクウイルス(PLDMV)の抗血清とは陰性反応を示した。ウイルス外被タンパク質の分子量は約36Kであった。以上の性質から,フィリピンのパパイヤから分離されたPRSV-P-Bはパパイヤ輪点ウイルスと同定,確認された。PRSV-P-Bに対する抗血清を作製し,健全ズッキーニ葉汁で吸収してからELISAに用いた。PRSV-P-Bは新鮮なあるいは乾燥したパパイヤあるいはズッキーニ病葉からELISA,DIBA,そしてTIBAによって検出された。さらに,PRSV-P-Bは渡辺ら(1998)によるPRSV特異的合成プライマーを利用したRT-PCRによって増幅された。PLDMV(真岡哲夫博士から分譲)は同プライマーで増幅されなかったので,RT-PCRはPRSVとPLDMVの迅速な類別に有効と考えられた。

The authors produced a demonstration electric vehicle, "Deep Green Research," based on a Honda Civic, in which critical electrical connections were soldered with a lead-free Sn–Cu–Ni–Ge alloy. This paper reports on the team's participation and completion in the Global Green Challenge, the world's largest solar car and eco car race, from Darwin to Adelaide, Australia that was run in late October, 2009. The successful completion of this course under the harsh conditions of the Australian outback proved the high reliability of the Sn–Cu–Ni–Ge lead-free solder joints in the control panels, cables, and connectors that had to carry the heavy current required to propel the vehicle over long distances at speeds of up to 104 km/hour. The vehicle set a new record for the longest distance travelled on a single charge by a car that satisfies relevant Australian safety regulations. This distance of 360 km was achieved using lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 33 kWh and resulted in an award in the category "Modified Production Class — Small Car (Electric)".

Matching documents is to find similar ones of a given document from an existing document database. It is an important problem in practice as well as in research. This paper presents a method for matching document applying to identify duplicate errors in network systems. The database we used is CISCO network errors database (CNED), a collection of documents that describe error cases occurred in network systems. The rabies virus is one of the most neurotropic of all viruses infecting mammals. During the terminal phases of infection, the virus spreads to peripheral tissues, including the skin. The external skin of the nose, called the nasal planum, is a sensory organ where numerous nerve bundles and terminal nerves are distributed. Therefore, the nasal planum is expected to serve as a postmortem diagnostic material. However, the distribution of rabies virus antigens in the nasal planum in rabid animals has not yet been studied. In this study, the nasal planum was obtained from 45 rabid dogs. In all rabid dogs, the viral antigen was detected in the peripheral nerve tissues, Merkel cells, and squamous cells. The viral antigen in the epidermis exhibited three patterns: first, a diffuse positive pattern from the basal layer to the squamous layer; second, a reticular positive pattern along the cell membrane in the squamous layer; and third, a basal layer pattern of the epidermis. In the dermis, viral antigens were detected more often in lamellated corpuscles just beneath the rete pegs. These results suggest that the nasal planum could serve as a useful alternative source for postmortem diagnosis in rabies endemic countries.

Seventeen species of Dorippinae, distributed among eight genera, are recognized from the Indo-West Pacific region. The genera include Dorippe, with five species, Paradorippe, containing four species, Dorippoides, with two species, Heikea, new genus, recognized for two species formerly assigned to the genus Nobilum, and Medorippe, Neodorippe, Nobilum, and Philippidorippe, each containing one species. Representatives of all but one of the recognized genera of Dorippinae, Phyllodorippe Manning and Holthuis, 1981, containing one West African species, occur in the Indo-West Pacific. One genus and species that occurs in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean, Medorippe lanata (Linnaeus, 1767), is known from off South Africa and Madagascar. Otherwise the members of this subfamily are restricted to Indo-West Pacific localities. Several species of Dorippinae hold objects or species of anemones on their backs with their modified fourth and fifth legs, and representatives of several species play prominent roles in Chinese and Japanese folklore. In general, distribution patterns of known species are limited; no species extends across the Indo-West Pacific from the Red Sea and South Africa to Japan.

The bioluminescence of dinoflagellates involves air-oxidation of luciferin (enzyme substrate) by luciferase (enzyme). On the other hand, Euphausia krills utilize highly fluorescent substance F not only as the catalyst for air-oxidation of a protein but also as the light-emitter. Fluorescent substance F exhibits chemical properties similar to those of dinoflagellate luciferin. Using alumina and ion exchange chromatography at low temperature under inert atmosphere (Sheme 1), the substance F (1) was successfully isolated from Euphausia pacifica. The structure of F was elucidated on the basis of degradation reaction summarized in Fig. 1 as well as the spectroscopic data of F (1) and oxy-F (2). The ring D part of the proposed structure, including relative stereochemistry, was unambiguously established by chemical means; ozonolysis of F, followed by CH_2N_2 treatment, yielded the expected product 7, the structure of which was determined by chemical synthesis. Dinoflagellate luciferin could be isolated from the dinoflagellate Pyrocystis lunula (Scheme 2). The structures of luciferin 8, oxidized luciferin 9 and blue compound 10 were elucidated by comparing their spectroscopic data with those of fluorescent substance F and oxy-F. Dinoflagellate luciferin and krill fluorescent substance F are apparently a member of the bile pigments. To the best of our knowledge, however, these are the first naturally occurring bile pigments, which structurally relate to chlorophylls rather than to haems. Studies on the mechanism of dinoflagellate bioluminescence is in progress.

We present a new method for imaging surface phonon focusing and dispersion at frequencies up to 1 GHz that makes use of ultrafast optical excitation and detection. Animations of coherent surface phonon wave packets emanating from a point source on isotropic and anisotropic solids are obtained with micron lateral resolution. We resolve rounded-square shaped wave fronts on the (100) plane of LiF and discover isolated pockets of pseudosurface wave propagation with exceptionally high group velocity in the (001) plane of TeO2. Surface phonon refraction and concentration in a minute gold pyramid is also revealed.

本研究は,亜熱帯地域に属する南米のパラグアイ国における,放牧牛の生産性と繁殖成績を改善するために,放牧牛のミネラル栄養に及ぼす種々の環境要因の影響を明らかにしたものである。得られた成果は,以下のとおりである。1. 東部のブエナビスタ牧場及びバレリート牧場の自然草地の草のP,Na,Zn及びCu濃度が非常に低かったので,草からのそれらの摂取量は放牧牛に対しては不足していることが推察された。また,草のFe及びMn含量の過剰によるミネラル不均衡もあると思われた。2. ブエナビスタ牧場及びバレリート牧場の自然草地の草のP,Na,Zn及びCu濃度に季節変化がみられなかったので,放牧牛は年間を通してそれらの不足していることが推察された。3. 東部の自然草地における草のP,Na,K,Zn及びCu濃度が低い値を示したことは,主に土壌中のそれらの含量が低いことによると考えられた。しかし,草のFe及びMn濃度の過剰は,土壌中のそれらの含量よりも,むしろ他の要因によると思われた。4. 一牧場,あるいは小地域での土壌分析から,牛のミネラル栄養の状態を診断することは困難であるが,草の分析は重要と考えられた。人工草地の草は,自然草地の草と比較するとミネラルを多量に含有し,また,東部の自然草地内では,樹木のある草地の草が樹木のない草地の草よりもミネラルに富んでいることが示唆された。5. チャコ地方の草のミネラル含量とミネラルバランスは放牧牛に対してほぼ適切なものであったが,Cuはやや不足していた。6. 水は少量のミネラルを含有していた。放牧牛は草から大部分のミネラルを摂取していたが,Zn及びCuの摂取では土壌も一部分は重要な役割を果たしていた。濃厚飼料及び他の飼料のミネラル濃度は非常に異なっていた。7. 東部のコルデルリータ牧場の自然草地の草では,P,Na,Zn及びCuが不足し,またFe及びMnが過剰であった。血清分析から判断すると,牛はややCu欠乏の状態にあると思われた。8. 牛の血清のCa,P及びMg濃度はほぼ適正な値を示したが,Cu濃度は低い値であった。パラグアイにおいては,放牧牛はややミネラル欠之の状態にあり,放牧牛のP及びCu欠之が重要な問題であることが示唆された。

11才の雌ドーベルマンの喉頭に発生した腫瘍を摘出し, 検索した. 腫瘍は種々の大きさで多形の細胞のシート状配列で構成されていた. 腫瘍細胞はデスミン, ミオグロビン, アクチンに強陽性, ビメンチンに弱陽性, 高分子ならびに低分子のサイトケラチン, 上皮細胞膜抗原ならびにミオシンに陰性であった. 電顕的には, 一部の腫瘍細胞の細胞質に, クリステに富むミトコンドリが多数存在し, 不整形で電子密度が高くZ帯に類似した領域が認められた. 以上の所見から, 本腫瘍は横紋筋肉腫と診断された.

The GEOTRACES Intermediate Data Product 2017 (IDP2017) is the second publicly available data product of the international GEOTRACES programme, and contains data measured and quality controlled before the end of 2016. The IDP2017 includes data from the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, Southern and Indian oceans, with about twice the data volume of the previous IDP2014. For the first time, the IDP2017 contains data for a large suite of biogeochemical parameters as well as aerosol and rain data characterising atmospheric trace element and isotope (TEI) sources. The TEI data in the IDP2017 are quality controlled by careful assessment of intercalibration results and multi-laboratory data comparisons at crossover stations. The IDP2017 consists of two parts: (1) a compilation of digital data for more than 450 TEIs as well as standard hydrographic parameters, and (2) the eGEOTRACES Electronic Atlas providing an on-line atlas that includes more than 590 section plots and 130 animated 3D scenes. The digital data are provided in several formats, including ASCII, Excel spreadsheet, netCDF, and Ocean Data View collection. Users can download the full data packages or make their own custom selections with a new on-line data extraction service. In addition to the actual data values, the IDP2017 also contains data quality flags and 1-σ data error values where available. Quality flags and error values are useful for data filtering and for statistical analysis. Metadata about data originators, analytical methods and original publications related to the data are linked in an easily accessible way. The eGEOTRACES Electronic Atlas is the visual representation of the IDP2017 as section plots and rotating 3D scenes. The basin-wide 3D scenes combine data from many cruises and provide quick overviews of large-scale tracer distributions. These 3D scenes provide geographical and bathymetric context that is crucial for the interpretation and assessment of tracer plumes near ocean margins or along ridges. The IDP2017 is the result of a truly international effort involving 326 researchers from 25 countries. This publication provides the critical reference for unpublished data, as well as for studies that make use of a large cross-section of data from the IDP2017.
