Background: Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective non-interventional study of stroke prevention in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular AF (NAVF) that is being conducted in 35 countries. Methods and Results: A total of 52,081 patients with a new diagnosis of NVAF were enrolled prospectively in GARFIELD-AF. Of these, 4859 (9.3%) were recruited in Japan (2010–2016). In cohort 1 (2010–2011), few patients were on non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOAC) globally. From cohort 2 onwards (2011–2016), however, there was a rapid increase in NOAC use around the globe, especially in Japan. By the last year of enrolment (2015–2016), 67.9% of patients in Japan and 43.1% of patients globally were on NOAC±antiplatelet therapy (AP). In Japan and globally, 17.0% and 12.2% of patients, respectively, did not receive stroke prevention treatment. Few patients in Japan (5.7%) received AP only. Compared with the other countries, the unadjusted rates of all-cause mortality and major bleeding were low, while rates of stroke/systemic embolism were similar after 1 year of follow-up. Conclusions: GARFIELD-AF continues to provide important information on the homogeneity and heterogeneity of baseline characteristics and treatment patterns in patients with newly diagnosed NVAF. This diversity reflects the differences in outcomes in Japan compared with the rest of the world.

詩人デーヴィッド・タッカー(David Tucker)は,ニュージャージー州のピューリッツァー賞を受賞したこともある朝刊紙『スター・レッジャー紙』に勤務する記者でもある。彼が詩人として発表した最初の詩集Late for Work には,「とりとめのない空想」や「夢想」,「無為の楽しみ」を主題とした複数の詩が収録されている。この詩集は,詩人フィリップ・レヴィン(Philip Levine)によって2005年度のキャサリン・ベイクレス・ネイソン詩作賞(the 2005 Katharine Bakeless Nason Prize for Poetry)の受賞作品に選ばれ,同賞はミドルベリー・カレッジ(Middlebury College)およびブレッド・ローフ作家会議(Bread Loaf Writers' Conference)によって授与された。本稿は,同詩集に収められた45編の詩の中から8作品を取り上げ,タッカーの詩における主題としての「静寂」と「静穏への細心の注意」に焦点をあて検討することを目的としている。そのうえで,「愛」,「死」,「家族」,「神」,その他多様な主題を扱うタッカーの詩について,新たな研究と解釈の視点と方法を提示する。

The amount of excess 210Po activity injected into the atmosphere by the 18 May 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens was greater than that of 90Sr released by the 16 October 1980 Chinese test explosion of a 0.2 to 1 megaton nuclear device. The occurrence of a ‘mystery’ cloud prior to the 28 March 1982 eruption of El Chichón volcano was accompanied by an increase in the 210Po/210Pb ratio in rain samples collected at Fayetteville, Arkansas, during the months of January and February, 1982.

Four species of European Cardamine have been considered to occur in Japan. Cardamine impatiens L. and C. ftexuosa With, have been treated as pan-Eurasian species that are also native to Japan. Cardamine hirsuta L. and C. parviflora L. have been listed as introduced species. In this study, we compared material from Japan and Europe to evaluate previous treatments. We confirmed the occurrence of C. impatiens and C. hirsuta in Japan, and consider the latter to be an introduced species, as indicated in previous treatments. The Japanese plants identified as C. flexuosa are likely to be different from the original C. flexuosa of Europe. The eastern border of the natural range of the European C. flexuosa is in European Russia, with a wide geographic disjunction between the European and eastern Asian plants. Cardamine flexuosa in central Europe occurs along the edges of montane forests, but the plants in Japan are most common in ricepaddy fields. We found no specimens from Japan of true C. parviflora in the major herbaria of Japan. Further rigorous systematic and nomenclatural studies are required to determine the status of the plants that have been treated as C. flexuosa in Japan.

A 14-month-old, female mini rex was referred for a detailed examination because of exercise intolerance with associated dyspnea. The thoracic radiograph demonstrated severe cardiac enlargement and elevation of the trachea. The echocardiography revealed dilatations of the right-side heart and pulmonary artery, and the color flow Doppler echocardiography demonstrated an atrial septum defect with left to right shunt, resulting in a disturbed flow. The rabbit died 19 days after the initial presentation, and a necropsy was performed. At the necropsy, a defect, 5 mm in diameter, was detected in the atrial septum. Based on the location of the defect, an ostium secundum type atrial septal defect was diagnosed. This is the first clinical report of atrial septal defect in rabbits.

A 12-year-old intact male Welsh Corgi was presented with enlargement of the right scrotum. Both testicles were surgically removed and histopathologically examined. On gross examination, white nodules were found in the epididymis and ductus deferens. Histopathologically, the nodules developed continuously from the tunica vaginalis testis of the right scrotum and consisted of spindle-shaped neoplastic cells that invaded the surrounding tissue. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were diffusely positive for vimentin, cytokeratin and Wilms tumor-1 (WT-1). Based on these findings, the tumor was diagnosed as sarcomatoid mesothelioma. The dog presented with respiratory distress 122 days after surgery and clinical examination found multiple metastatic lesions in the lung, abdominal lymph nodes and peritoneum. The dog died 144 days after surgery due to disease progression.

Cleaning habits are changing day by day with the development of new technologies, new soil substrate systems and diversity of water. The rapid growth and diversity of detergents, market requires continuous consideration of new materials to meet the demand of new, improved and modified products. Detergent gels are exciting new type of detergent, represent now a days attractive subject for advanced technology. Gels are non-conventional detergents, used for fabric cleaning. Detergent gels are not as popular as conventional detergents like powders and liquids because of their high cost but from performance viewpoint detergent gels are better than conventional detergents due to its compact nature. This paper attempts to review types of detergent products, features, formulation technology, ingredients & their functional properties and applications of detergent gels.

It happens frequently that the observational data is not complete but missing partly by various reasons. A preliminary study for supplementing adjusted values to such imperfect data based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is executed. IRAS 3 colors of mass-losing stars and their expanding velocity on the ground based observations are adopted for the experiment. One of these 4 data is eliminated for each star and the adjusted value is restored. A hard palate mass was surgically removed from an Australian green tree frog (Litoria caerulea) and examined pathologically. The tumor consisted of sheets of small cells arranged in a tubular structure and cords or rosettes with fibrovascular stroma. Immunohistochemically, neoplastic cells were diffusely positive for cytokeratin and neuron-specific enolase and partially positive for S-100 and doublecortin. These findings indicate that the tumor originated from the neuroectodermal tissue. Based on these findings, the tumor was classified as a neuromastoma (neuroepithelioma). Sensory cells located in the hard palate of the frog were considered to be the origin of the tumor. The frog died after going through 3 surgeries and experiencing difficulties closing its mouth.
