The 'Communicative Approach', originated in Europe in the 1960's, encompasses a variety of methods that apply new concepts in the field of foreign language teaching. This term literally refers to a combination of language teaching approaches that aim to improve communicative language skills, discourse skills, and social linguistic skills. In Japan, for the last 40 years, the audio-lingual method, which emphasizes drilling and memorization, has been the main focus of elementary Japanese language teaching. But this authorized teaching method has come under criticism in recent years, and this has caused a certain amount of consternation amongst Japanese teachers accustomed to the previously established teaching system. This paper will propose a new style of teaching which combines the best of audio-lingual method and the communicative approach.

1947年以降、アメリカ占領軍はその「逆コース」によって、当初の目的であった日本社会の非武装化・民主化を徐々に放棄し反共的復興に方針を転換した。その中、学生主導の反米主義は力を増し、「教育復興闘争」のイデオロギー化、全学連の結成へと結びついていった。日本共産党は全学連の反米的「反帝闘争」に対して否定的な立場をとり、党本部と学生細胞は対立していった。1951年の4全協をきっかけに共産党はより過激な反米主義を軍事闘争というかたちで唱えるようになるわけだが、それに至るまでの全学連と共産党における反米主義について考察する。

1952年の血のメーデー事件は戦後日本共産党の最も大規模な武装闘争であり、講和発行のわずか3日後に起こったため日本国内、海外に強いインパクトを与えた事件であった。ここでは、共産党の武装闘争の主役を担った学生運動家などに焦点を当てながら・血のメーデーが如何に経験され・意味づけられたかを検証する。共産党の武装闘争方針下の学生運動は大衆的な盛り上がりを見せることがなかったが、血のメーデーにおいては通常不法デモに参加することがない「一般学生」の多くが参加し、共産党の闘士たちと共に血に染まった人民広場 (皇居前広場) に立った。彼ら、彼女らの多様な経験をさらに掘り起こしていくことによって、1950年代前半の大学及び社会全般の政治文化の一面を鮮明に描き出していくことができるだろう。

This paper attempts to identify problems in opinion essays, comparing writing of high scores (=H-writings) and writing of low scores (=L-writings), and H-writing and writing answering a question (=AQ-writing). In the quantitative analysis, there was little difference in the average number of logical expressions between H-writing and L-writing, and between H-writing and AQ-writing. In the qualitative analysis, adequate grounds for argument or explicit answers to the question were seldom seen in L-writing and AQ-writing even though logical linguistic expressions were used with equal frequency in H-writing. These results suggest that it is necessary to focus on coherence of content to develop second language writing skills.

This oral history focuses on the experiences of Togawa Yoshio as a student member of the JCP during its military interlude in Korean War period Japan. Although the effect of the Korean War as an economic boon has been well-emphasized, narratives of postwar Japanese history tend to treat activities by the JCP during this period as a minor footnote to the period. This is not surprising. Even specialized histories of those who conducted these activities-the JCP, zainichi Koreans, and the student movement-pass over this period as an unfortunate mistake. By introducing the experiences of Togawa Yoshio, this oral history seeks to contribute to the process of giving voice to this long-silenced history.

In this thesis, we will analyze with a new approach the Japanese language reform through what I called 'Chukan gengo=Standardization of the language' inducing From the concept of modernizing Egyptian language. The meaning of the term 'Chukan gengo' is the compromise between the conventional written language (bun-go/fusha) and the vulgar language ('amiya/zoku-go) in the attempt of creation of a language variety that can take place of the other two and be reformed as a national language. The final modernization of the language through the Language Reform&Policy in both countries was never the correspondent of the 'vulgar language reform' in Europe. In the case of the two countries (Egypt and Japan), there was a trial to form a unification between the written and the spoken language in order to simplify reading and writing between the public for the spread of enlighten and education. Still, the conventional written language was adopted as the official language. Until the end of the 2nd world war, the Diglossia Phenomenon was predominantly the language consciousness in Egypt and Japan. In this thesis we will divide the process of formation of the 'Chukan gengo' historically into three terms; 1. Period using vulgar variety in the press by foreigners and language reformers during the 2^<nd> half of the 19^<th> century 2. Occurrence of the nationalism movement at the beginning of the 20^<th> century until the end of the 2^<nd> world war. 3. Establishment of national language consciousness in both countries post 2^<nd> world war. Finally, I will attempt to define that the recognition of the 'Chukan gengo' as a national language is a matter of the establishment of The Nation State in the first place.

在从事日文中訳工作時,経常会遇到一些問題。其主要原因,是由于受到両国各自不同的地理条件,風土人情,思維方式以及不同文化特徴的限制。本文以中,上級日語教材《日本社会再考》中的両篇文章為例,从詩彙的微妙差異,漢字的不同発音到語法難点-使役被動句的理解,慣用句在特定条件下的翻訳等几个不同側面,逐一進行了探討及翻訳上的嘗試。前三部分主要指出翻訳中遇到的詞彙方面的問題,后ニ部分談的是翻訳中的語法難点及慣用句,諺語等在特定条件下出現的問題。

This report tries to discuss about the result of actual in -class use of SFJ/SD, which is issued in 1991 by Tsukuba University. SFJ dose not follow a conventional type of textbooks those which put stress only on step-by-step learning of the grammatical knowledge or practical ability of the conversation skills. In order to make SFJ the most effective on Japanese learning, following three conditions are needed; (1)According to learner s ability, teachers should prepare explanation for grammatical particular which takes place of Notes' (2)To make learner's grammatical ability stable, teachers should change the regular order of learning (SD→Conversation Drill→Task) on demand. (3)Not for loosing the advantage of SFJ, teachers should understand exactly what the editor of SFJ aims at in each drill. By preparing those conditions sufficiently, it can be said that SFJ makes a contribution to the improvement of Japanese ability of the element learners by giving chance to have imagination and positive attitude towards learning Japanese.

This study analyses the sufficiency of "methods of requesting clarification" as taught in class and contained in Japanese language textbooks. The results indicates : (1)Requests for clarification were frequently used by learners, but not effectively. (2)Only a few textbooks contains information for clarifications strategies that learners need complement.

呂赫若(1914~1951)不但是日本時代台湾文壇代表作家而且是以声楽家聞名.但是,呂赫若研究一向有重視文学方面,而軽視音楽活動方面的傾向.1996年12月,在台北挙行的「呂赫若文学研討会」上,有両個値得注目的論文報告,蘇友鵬「談芸術家呂赫若的面貌」和藤井省三「呂赫若與東宝国民劇」.両篇論文都是研討呂赫若的音楽活動方面,尤其是藤井論文考察呂演出「東宝声楽隊」的経過.本論文,以台中師範的音楽教師磯江清的経歴和音楽家呂泉生的書簡等的新資料補足藤井論文,考察更詳細的呂赫若的音楽活動.本文第1章,将介紹台中師範学校提供的音楽教育内容.第2章裡,考察台中師範的音楽教師磯江清的経歴,指出磯江和東京音楽学校教授長坂好子的関係.第3章裡,査証呂在籍東宝声楽隊的事実.第4章,将介紹東宝声楽隊的活動内容,考察山田耕筰対台湾文化協進会的影響.

I compare the phonological systems of Japanese language and Finnishlanguage and clarify differences. Second I discuss which finnish syllable can be used for each Japanese syllable from the material I collected in teaching Japanese to Finnish students. This research demonstrates that Finnish native speakers have the most difficulty in finding a similar sound in their own systems for voiced vowels. Although some Japanese palatalized consonants can be replaced by the Finnish vowels o and y. Even the geminaata and long vowels in Japanese and Finnish are not, exarrhly the same.

Visual images and videotaped materials are often very useful for a class of 'Introduction of social and cultural background of Japan', but we have few well-edited visual learning materials for this area. So we have welcomed the series of videotaped texts edited by International Student Center, Tokyo Foreign Language University since 1990. My interest has been taken especially to the texts 'Rapid Economic Growth' and ' The Constitution of Japan and Our Daily Life' in this series. 'Rapid Economic Growth' consists of the scenes of important events after World War II picked up from news movies. Some scenes are full of significance not only on economic and political but also sociohistorical ground, which is regretfully not given enough explanation. As a result, this visual text only presents a glance of the history of after-war Japan and sometimes valuable images. Another text, 'The Constitution of Japan and Our Daily Life', on the contrary, lacks historical perspective, which makes this text not so much deserving of discussion at this critical moment as the title suggests.

Japan is often said the country of dual system or double standards. The Japanese people are criticized that they differentiate between honne (reality) and tatemae (facade or enunciated principle). The situation concerning international students' workpermit in Japan is not the exception. The policy of Japanese government as tatemae is that the Certificate of Eligibility which guarantees international students the entry to Japan as residents is issued only to those students who have either sufficient financial background or who have guarantors supporting them financially. The reality, however, is that almost all international students without Mombusho scholarship apply for the work permit. Since the work permit is automatically granted, they are engaged in broadrange of part-time jobs. Comparing with the policy of the U.S. I argue the inconsistency of the policy of Japanese government concerning international students' work permit.

臺湾,經過了日本50年的統治,『文藝臺灣』『臺灣文学』等雑誌為中心,産生了臺灣作家的日本語文学。邱炳南在臺北高等学校時期,身為最年輕的詩人,参與西川満主宰的『文藝臺灣』,發表描術南臺灣異國風情的作品。本文的第1章,將介昭和分析邱之似往不曽被論及的作品。第2章裡,藉由ニ・ニ八事件発生後,經香港亡命到日後的邱所發表之小説來討論日本對邱的「認同(identity)」形成如何影響的問題。

Lu Xun (1881~1936), a world renouned Chinese writer, came to Japan in 1902 to study to become a medical doctor. Later, however, he changed his mind and decided to be a writer. Although in Lu Xun's case his change of heart was approved, present interpretations of Japanese immigration law usually does not allow foreign students' changes of heart. This is due to the overriding emphasis on "the continuity of the purpose of study". This paper examines the reason behind Lu Xun's change of heart and proposes that the current policy of Japanese immigration authority be reconsidered to make the birth of another Lu Xun possible in the future.

本稿は文学場の基本概念に基づき、植民地台湾における文壇と文学サークルの独自の問題を、検閲、教育改革、技術革新の影響に注目して論じるものである。台湾・日本の台湾人文壇と文学サークルの言語的変化は教育制度に起因すると同時に、技術革新による印刷と流通の高速化、さらには、文学同人間のコミュニケーション手段の発達によるものである。また、検閲が出版場所や文学的内容に影響したことにも注目する必要がある。本稿では植民地の文学場の二元的分析方法の不適切さを指摘するとともに、多元的分析方法の長所と必要を強調する。

This paper examine the difference of the interaction style between Japanese women and men through analyzing the interruptions that appear in the same-sex multi-party conversations. These are the findings. Women tend to use adjustment type interruptions such as confirmation, repair or related questions more than men. These interruptions work to show the listener's interest toward the topic which the speaker presents, and to involve them in the conversation to share and develop the topics together. Men tend to use the independence type interruption such as summary, topic development, and topic change more than women. These interruptions show the difference in the levels of the speaker and listener and levels of independence and superiority. In conversation men tend to make much of presenting and developing the topics by themselves. Contrary to the above, most frequently, rapport type interruptions such as agreement and understanding which encourages the speaker and contributes to solidarity are used by both Japanese women and men. There is almost no difference in the frequency in use.
