Recent flood damages in urban areas have increased the need for urban planning and building measures to respond to inundation risks. In this article, in order to obtain suggestions for building and land use management based on inundation risks, floodproof retrofitting plans are examined for two types of existing condominium models in an urban area. Then, the floodproof retrofitting work costs, and the amount of damage reduction due to floodproofing are estimated. Finally, the applicabilities of such floodproofing measures are examined by analyzing the cost-effectiveness of plans under various conditions of inundation probability.

In this paper, to achieve the fast and detailed evaluation of seismic damage, the novel diagnostic imaging applied multiple image recognition techniques (Classification, Detection, Segmentation) in deep learning is proposed. Dataset from images generated by Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) brings the high-accurate recognition of the real damaged images. It is revealed that the diagnostic imaging can extract precisely the damaged area with minimum noise. Furthermore, the result of the damage extraction can calculate the seismic damage rate of the exterior wall.

In this study, I drafted a super-long-term repair plan. As a result, I made it clear that: (1)Super-long-term repair plans cannot accurately calculate future payment amount for repair reserve. However, it is possible to predict when there will be a significant shortage of repair reserve fund. (2)A factor that will increase future repair costs is the life environment improvement work that is carried out in conjunction with extensive renovations. (3)For ultra-aged condominiums, it is important to announce in advance that the payment amount for repair reserve will increase by using super-long-term repair plans.

In this study, external thermal insulation retrofitting was performed in four complexes of condominiums, constructed in 1971-72, located in a larger conglomerate of condominiums in Yokohama. Through interviews, we analyzed the process of renovation of each complex. The owners’ association of the first complex that underwent the renovation decided to keep a common room open for the visitors to see the effects of the renovation. The knowledge and experience of the preceding renovation were transmitted in this way to encourage the others to adopt the same method, and the following renovations took place as if in a chain reaction.

We carried out microtremor measurements of wooden framed houses constructed in the Bingo region, Hiroshima. The microtremor measurement of the house was carried out considering the construction stage. We tried to identify the structural characteristics which are vibration period, damping factor, mass and stiffness. We compared the obtained data of the measurements with the structural calculation documents by the allowable stress concept.

In urban areas, there are many culverts (underground rivers) and inland flooding occurs easily around them. This study focuses on how development type of culverts influence on residents’ cognition of culverts and flood risk perception. Three areas were selected from Setagaya Ward with varying physical features, and questionnaire was distributed. Compared to road that is not a green road, culverts under green roads highly recognized as culverts. Although flood risk perception did not differ significantly between the areas, on an individual level, development type of culverts and interaction with them may influence on risk perception via cognition of culverts.

In recent years, enhancing worker productivity is being recognized as one of the important management issues of companies in response to global environmental issues and work style reforms by governments. In Japan, the CASBEE-Wellness Office was developed in 2019. To disseminate this assessment system and widely expand wellness offices in the real estate market in the future, it is important to demonstrate the benefits to the related market participants. In this study, we report the findings of building performance assessment using CASBEE-Wellness Office for office buildings and a comparison of rent, which is considered to affect building value.

The purpose of the study is to reveal the full picture of the relocation and reconstruction of the Former Imperial Hotel (1923-1968) designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) and to investigate the “preservation of the architectural style” proposed by Yoshiro Taniguchi (1904-1979), the first director of the Museum Meiji-Mura. This paper considers the documentary materials concerning the pre-dismantling survey conducted by Shindo Akashi laboratory of Waseda University and the “preservation of the architectural style” as seen in the dismantling and reconstruction materials from the relocation of the Former Imperial Hotel’s entrance lobby.

Our target are unemployed living alone seniors in the apartment complexes. We conducted a questionnaire survey and extracted 3 patterns of lifestyles. We analyzed lifestyle characteristics according to the presence or absence of loneliness and subjective health status. We also asked what kind of facilities and events they wanted in their apartment complexes. And we compared the features of them by levels of loneliness, subjective health and lifestyles. Finally, we identified some features in terms of facilities and events which are aligned to certain lifestyle that can contribute low level of loneliness and high subjective health.

Because of COVID-19, people are required to refrain from leaving their homes unnecessarily. In this study, the relationship between the stress levels of Japanese university students and their home-based learning environment was investigated through a questionnaire survey. The results show that stress levels decreased as the number of days passed for those who lived with their families. Moreover, days with lower stress levels were those when the students had opportunities to meet others in an online setup, suggesting that having opportunities to communicate with others and making plans to do so may contribute to stress reduction.

This paper is a report about the actual condition of financial aid for building demolition and restoration in Fukushima prefecture after Great East Japan Earthquake. Over 10,000 buildings were demolished by public expense after this disaster. 19 buildings which had cultural value were included. This building demolition by public expense was free for general people, and architectural professionals didn’t take part in the decision process of the demolition at all. These may had become the reason which made the demolition easy to choose.

In case that a geodesic dome is constructed using wooden panels, the frame section of each panel becomes a parallelogram. Therefore, when constructing frames, it is necessary to obtain angles of the member section and cutting angles of the edge. We attempted to determine these angles by an illustration method using Japanese stereotomy traditionally used by carpenters in Japan. We examined an alternate 2v-type geodesic dome and consequently established the correspondence between results of geometric calculations and those of the illustration method. Further, a prototype dome was built on the basis of these results.

An earthquake disaster prevention system was developed. It predicts ground motion intensity and building response just before the arrival of strong motion, using the information of P-wave observed by an onsite seismometer. The prediction accuracy of the system was evaluated and compared with that of Earthquake Early Warnings provided by Japan Meteorological Agency. The prediction errors of the two methods were comparable to each other. The best estimate combining the two methods was proposed. It was also confirmed that the system performs well under an assumed environment using numerical simulation.

The potential of using Phase Change Material in wooden house has been proved. Since the cost of the PCM is high, searching for a laying position with high heat absorption and dissipation efficiency has been shown as a problem. In this study, we examine the laid position that maximizes the heat absorption and dissipation of the PCM when the PCM is set under the floor finishing material by utilizing the direct gain in winter.

In Meiji-era there used to be several thousands of wooden playhouses but nowadays there are only a few dozens of them left. We made field-studies on 15 playhouses and investigated the acoustic characteristics of these playhouses. In Edo-era, mainly Kabuki or Joruri were performed but after Meiji-era koto or shamisen concert came to be held in these places. The purpose of this study is to preserve the acoustic characteristics of these places as the form of the acoustic impulse response, and to seek favorable acoustic spaces for the traditional Japanese music in terms of the acoustic simulation.

<p>This study explored changes in spatial radiation dose rate both indoor and outdoor associated with a decontamination operation for a wooden house in a high dose rate region in Fukushima. As a result, the averaged spatial dose rate at 1m height from the floor before the decontamination was 1.73μSv/h and the dose rate after the decontamination was 0.86μSv/h. Furthermore, the results of a comparison of the dose rate between pre- and post-decontamination indicates a decrease in the dose rate at almost all points. The reduction rate of spatial dose-rate was 40 to 50% at the center of the house.</p>

There are Voluntary disaster prevention organization and Local disaster management center in &ldquo;Mutual-help efforts&rdquo; system in disaster. This purpose of study is the examination of the state of &ldquo;Mutual-help efforts&rdquo; system in disaster by analysis of the exchanging views with committees of local disaster management center in Hodogaya Ward, Yokohama City. As future&rsquo;s direction of &ldquo;Mutual-help efforts&rdquo; system, it is necessary to clarify each role of voluntary disaster prevention organization and local disaster management center and promotion of a measure with redundancy in local disaster prevention.

This paper is a study on the imports of building materials and components in Japan. The followings are shown by analyzing both domestic statistics and Trade statistics: firstly, changes in the import quantity and rate of eighteen building materials and components from 1971 to 2016 are classified into four types. Second, the import rate of seven materials are higher than 10% nowadays. Third, the increase of the import rate has been basically caused by the globalization from the early 1990s, although the resource nationalism and the growth of Korean industry increased the import rate of same materials in 1980s.
