Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is one of the multipoint search methods to find global or quasi-optimum of non-convex function. The important characteristics of multipoint search methods are diversity and centralization of search points. In this paper we propose Improvement model to aim at the diversity and the centralization. Through numerical examples, it is examined that indicator of parameter decision, diversity, centralization, and the search ability of the Improved PSO.

This paper addresses an issue of spontaneous software evolution, which is a modern form of software evolution observed in social coding platforms such as GitHub. In the spontaneous software evolution, feature additions and modifications of software are achieved by spontaneous proposals from individual developers, not by the request from the project manager. In this paper, we investigate project factors that can boost such spontaneous software evolution. Specifically, we first introduce a governance framework of the spontaneous evolution, inspired by a smart city execution model, and then consider relevant factors that can motivate developers to propose actions. Finally, we discuss necessary features for the governance framework from viewpoints of (1) motivation of developers, (2) individual sense of value, (3) skill and competency, and (4) characteristics, quantity, and deadline.

In the present paper, we applied a new optimization method using a stochastic process to the design of the hang glider. As for this problem, not only the hang glider design but also its flight path are optimized at the same time. The method obtains a solution as an expectation (probability average) using stochastic process. The advantages of this method are not to be affected by initial conditions and not to need techniques based on experience. In this optimization problem, the numerical calculation results show that the method has a sufficient performance.

On machine design, various knowledge and processes for design solution are needed. One of author has developed design support system to make it easy for design task. But developed design support system is restricted to support for certain design object and task In this research, we developed the design support system having two functions, named YU-PrOReS. One of function is proposing design object corresponding to designer purpose. Another function is reforming the design solution. YU-PrOReS is realized more widely support on mechanical design.

Today's project management of mechatronics development is difficult to manage, because mechatronics product is becoming highly complicated. This paper proposes an integrated model of the project information based on representation of mechatronics product and product development process. Based on this project model, this paper also addresses a management method of the project. The project model is represented as a process of design tasks and resources. The product model is represented as a design parameter, product function, and product structure. The dependencies between/inside the product and process are modeled as a MDM (Multiple Domain Matrix) matrix and DMM (Domain Mapping Matrix). The system finds and suggests the gap between designer's recognition and derived dependency. This suggestion can help the designer to elaborate and improve the project model. A proto-type system is implemented and applied to the design example of an electric solar boat. The result shows the elaboration process of the project information.

We have simultaneously measured both the explicit movement of palms and the implicit movement of the whole body in the hand contact improvisation. And, we also have compared and analyzed the difference of the measurements between the time when the sympathetic embodied awareness is being generated and when it is not. We have obtained the following results from the comparison and the analysis under the condition that the self-other inseparable relationship is being created through the sympathetic embodied awareness between two persons. First, the implicit movement comes before that of the explicit. Second, the time when those movements occur corresponds between the two persons. Furthermore, chaos attractor is generated within the movements of hands, and there exists a rhythm of a cycle variation for a few to ten seconds. These results suggest that the space-time structure of the inner self changes through the bodily expression. It is expected that this will be an important clue to clarify the dynamics of "Ba" in the co-creative expression.

<p>Today changes are so frequent and extensive so that we cannot predict the future. To cope with this situation, we have to team up to solve the problems. But if we team up with 11 best players, the team will not be the best. The best team is realized when every member of a team can adaptably change his role. Such an adaptable team will be the final winner. But our engineering education has focused on how we can grow up best players and we did not pay too much attention to how we can make our team adaptable enough and how we can increase such adaptability of each player. We should make our efforts to grow such adaptable engineers.</p>

Japanese tourism industry is less competitive compared with other countries worldwide. One of the problems Japanese tourism companies have is that they do not have an efficient way to design package tours. This paper proposes a computer aided designing method of package tours that meets various tourists' favors while controlling cost. Tour service is modeled as network that comprises activity, place, capability and enabler. In this model, a tour is described as a flow of activities, which is linked with place, capability and enabler to attach the detailed information. There are three steps to design a tour lineup. First, the network is redesigned by adding improvement if necessary. Second, all possible sequences of activities (tour candidates) are extracted from the network, which are then combined as a lineup. Finally, after feasibility of the lineup is checked, it is evaluated from the viewpoints of tourists and providers. The proposed method has been verified by using developed prototype system through the case of Tokyo day tours.

In this study, we developed a finite element simulation program for a three-dimensional stress analysis of the rim of a road bike wheel. The cross-sectional model of the rim structure is created based on the boundary data of the rim and a three-dimensional model is created by extruding the cross-sectional model. Aluminum alloy, generally used for the rim of the road bike wheel, is assumed as the material of the rim because it is inexpensive and isotropic material.

It is difficult that assemble a minute machine using still minute parts. If assemble it, space and friction between the parts cannot disregard in the micro world. However, such a problem is solvable if the objective function is realized by one continuum. The continuum having such a specific function is called "Functional Continuum (FC)". In this study, the FC for the key switch of the keyboard of a notebook PC is proposed, that is the one structure key switch using the stainless thin plate. On the other hand, the existing notebook PC has the rubber dome and the pantograph as a key structure part, and the number of parts is very much. In this paper, the two kinds of test pieces are actually manufactured, and the characteristic evaluation is performed experimentally.

Recently various measures are made towards realization of low carbon society. Water-power generation is one leading policy. However, development of the small-scale water-power generation to power consumption, such as a plain part, is not fully progressing. Therefore, this research aims to develop the micro water-power generation equipment which used the new type of turbine. For developing new type of turbine called the tornado type, its prototype model experiment and numerical simulation are performed and the various parameters of the turbine are determined and the manufacturing checks are performed. Then, we conducted the profile data of turbine generated by the 3D-CAD, production of the prototype model by using RP equipment, and the check experiments of operation by the produced the prototype model. Moreover, cutting of the actual turbine by using 5-axis processing machine with the tool path data generated by the 3D-CAM was also performed. As a result, we confirmed that the rapid prototyping model is possible to rotate in the water flow. In addition, in the actual cutting experiment of the turbine, we confirmed that it is possible to manufacture of the turbine by 5-axis processing machine.

Systems integrators have developed IT service systems with computational hardware, software application and human resources. This integration has traditionally been conducted one-by-one for each client, and acquired tacit knowledge such as target domains, business rules, and constraints has not been shared effectively across several projects. To have sharable and reusable knowledge through development processes, this paper presents an asset-based IT service development framework which consists of preliminarily asset development, asset management, and asset reuse. The asset includes formalized deliverables of IT service development such as architectural diagrams and structured tacit knowledge required for designing and integrating the system, and enables evaluation of service quality under design constraints in early design phase. The evaluation results indicate reusability of assets from other projects. The framework stipulates these activities about developing and reusing assets, and aligns them into a new development process. Therefore, the framework can reduce the cost of development, improve the quality of the developed IT service system, and enhance the collaboration between developers.

Bayesian network is the is one of the probabilistic graphical models that represents a set of random variables and their conditional dependencies via a directed acyclic graph. In this study, Bayesian network is applied for the stock price forecast. The present method classifies stock price into three situations; normal value, positive and negative outliers. Different networks are defined by data in three situations in order to forecast the stock price. The effectiveness of the present method is discussed in the numerical example.

The present design education using the two-dimensional CAD software and the engineering education based on classroom lecture in our university cannot respond to the rapid environmental change of the manufacturing industry appropriately. In addition, willingness to study engineering and enthusiasm for manufacturing of university students are vanishing. In order to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to experience the whole process of product manufacturing including three-dimensional computer aided design, computer aided engineering using finite element method and fabrication, Faculty of Environmental Engineering of The University of Kitakyushu attempted the engineering design and manufacturing education by use of 3D CAD and CAE. In this paper, we report the experiences and the results of the educational activities.

Collaborative product design implies that multiple designers will cooperate during the design of a product, by sharing knowledge and information. For practical design teams, expertise in a wide area is needed, but the area that a single designer can proficiently handle is usually quite narrow. Therefore, facilitated collaboration is indispensable to achieve efficient results from a practical design team. In recent years, customer requirements have become increasingly diversified, and companies have focused upon developing unique or increasingly sophisticated products to maintain their market share. As a result, achieving especially creative designs has become more important than ever. An additional aim of collaboration is to maximally assist this type of creative design process. This paper discusses an advanced collaborative system supporting creative design processes that depend on interactive communication among a number of designers. To implement such a system, this paper proposes a method for structurizing and visualizing communication processes.

Trial-and-error optimal design discussed in this article is an optimization process which is basically performed based on the designer's own intuition and experience. Such an approach does not have any rational or objective background; it is, however, widely used in the practical design process in many engineering fields. In this preliminary study, we conduct an evaluation of this optimal design process. A simple structural design problem is considered and a computer program which supports as well as records the designer's trial-and-error process is developed. The optimality and other properties of the trial-and-error optimal design process is discussed based on the obtained results.

This study develops a dialogue model and a command interpretation technique for service robots to obtain interactively the necessary information of actions for the tasks requested from users. A request from users sometimes misses some data necessary to complete the requested task because a voice command is usually requested depending on context and situation. The developed command interpretation technique first divides a command into words. Then, it analyzes the content of the command paying attention to the verb used and object included. If there are some missing data in the command, it sequentially generates queries to obtain them. The applicability of the dialogue model and the technique is demonstrated by dialogue experiments using a robot arm system.

In this paper, we will explain our collaborative PBL between academic and industry in Kagawa University. We have strarted this program since 2004. We asked local industry to give our students a theme which they are interested in, but which is not clearly defined. Then three or four students make team to solve that problem. They start from thinking about what they are required. They have discussed and negotiate to define their theme for detail. Then, they will benchmark and propose a solution for the problem. From these processes, we expect them to get ability of team working, referencing, negotiation and collaboration.

An integrated system with both Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) has been developed. Most of these systems mainly focus on the effectiveness of constructing Finite Element (FE) model In these systems, a FE model is automatically constructed and calculation is automatically carried out. But a good design candidate cannot be obtained since some analysis tools for finding out it effectively are not included. In this paper, firstly some problems in current CAE systems are made clear. Secondly, in order to overcome these problems, two new analyses, that are FOA( First Order Analysis) in a concept design phase and a optimization tool based on a reduction technique in detailed design phase, are presented. Finally, in order to perform these analyses in a integrated system, a few concepts of necessary technique are proposed.
