The Train Information Management System (hereinafter, referred to as TIMS) was first adopted for the 209-950 series that was operated on the JR Chuo-Sobu Line. Since then, further development of TIMS has been done in terms of achieving higher performance, reliability and the additional functionalities, as it is adopted for the E531 series and E233 series. The TIMS has been adopted as the information control system for the new E259 series, which are to be introduced on the Narita Express limited express services to and from Narita International Airport, replacing the conventional 253 series. As the "TIMS" is to be used in an express train, some new functions are developed for the new equipment, with the further improvement of the performance of the conventional functions of the TIMS. This paper describes these newly adopted functions, design and the enhanced performance of the TIMS.

Intelligent Multi-Mode Transit System ("IMTS") based on fully automated Bus has been developed as the medium-scale transit system as the next generation transport system. Functional features of IMTS are summarized to the advanced lane guidance without the guide rail, the platooning formed by the electronic vehicle link and the collision avoidance emphasized by ITS technologies. The system configuration of IMTS, vehicle control technologies are described in this paper.

BTM (Belt Type Transit System by Magnet) has timing belts at whose surface permanent magnet devices are fitted. It uses magnetic attraction-force to steel beam for driving force. As this force is more powerful than adhesion force between wheel and rail, it is possible that BTM runs at steep slope like 30 degrees. This paper describes design policy and experiment results of BTM, concerning structure of belt, method of driving, brake system and automatic operation.

Though it is useful for future design or maintenance to know the actual stress on railway axle, not many cases has been reported. The dynamic stress was measured and clarified for some vehicle and root. The effect of track and running condition was also analyzed. Some difference by track variation was observed. The stress and also the speed dependency on stress were found to be higher on tighter curve. The stress increasing rate on each curve was same even if the vehicle is tare or loaded.

Electric brake system in 103 series has been used for over 40 years, but it has a lot of troubles. So we tried to solve the following two troubles. ・ the lack of the brake effect in a high-speed region with the old-type-control machine called CS20C. ・ the lapse of the brake effect in about 30km/h region with the new-type- microcomputer-control machine called CS20D.

Than doing the actual experiment, in order to evaluate the safety of passenger flow and passenger evaluation station, the consideration by the simulation model is realistic. System for safety evaluation of the station in the event of failure by utilizing simulation technology, in this study, we have examined the specifications of sub-models that are required there. In addition, conduct a case study that assumes a situation where using a part of the sub-model for the models studied, underground station is flooded due to the tsunami and heavy rain guerrilla, we have confirmed the effectiveness of the system.

The railway rails occurs expansion and contraction by thermal expansion in accordance with the variation of the ambient temperature. Therefore, a substantial amount will be accumulated in the rail should be expansion and contraction. This thermal stress is generally referred to as the rail axial force. In this study, the lab test using the rail bending fatigue test machine was executed and the rail axis force evaluation X-ray stress measurement by cosα method was fundamentally investigated.

Recently, the designed railway vehicles are expanding in Japan. Odakyu Electric Railway Company has 6 kinds of vehicles "Romancecar"; each of them has different design. Showing the effect of quality designed vehicles for passengers contributes to vehicle development. This study aims to develop the Train-Choice-Model what is able to estimates the effect. This model built by utility function that has some variables of design. The 930 sample data were collected by qxiestionnaire for passengers. As a result of analysis, it became clear that the quality designed car increase Train-Choice-Probability.

Railway vehicle is the most energy-saving vehicle. To improve a further energy-saving performance in existing cars, We Tokyo Metro have done various adjustments. The performance has been advanced, and the possibility and the technique have been established. The brake performance adjustment considered service line circumstances that it has been the problem so far has been done at the same time, too and the technique of coexisting with the energy-saving performance has been established.

We are developing a train communication and control network "INTEROS", which adopts the Ethernet transmission technologies and has the ability of high-capacity data transmission for a next-generation railway operation system. This paper describes characteristics of the present train's transmission line in order to clarify the problems and to develop new transmission lines which are suitable for the Ethernet transmission.

In order to reduce deformation of ballasted tracks during large earthquakes, a new method to reinforce ballasted tracks with stacked geosynthetic bags that are filled with ballast was proposed. In this study, some performance tests of geosynthetic bags method are conducted. In triaxial test, geosynthetic bags filled with ballast revealed higher strength than ballast with no bag. In cut strength test, bags made of polyethylene and polyarylate that is one of high strength fibers revealed good performance. In ultraviolet ray resistance test, geosynthetic bags revealed less than 60% loss of pull strength at 5000h irradiation of super xenon weather meter. In construction test on commercial lines, it is confirmed that the new method has good workability.

One of the primary aims of Digital ATP (Automatic Train Protection System) for JR's Tokyo metropolitan commuter line is to expand the transportation capacity. Traffic simulation showed strong durability of the ATP against disrupted train schedule. Basic performance is provided by assured braking and non-insulated track circuit. Furthermore, re-scheduling gives higher efficiency of recovering from disruption.

We have developed a instrument for measuring coefficient of friction on wheels, moving on wheel tread with small creepage, which is called "Mobile u-tester." The instrument is constructed with support system and measuring unit, which is driven by flexible rack, pinion and a pulse motor. The measuring unit carries a measuring roller, which is driven by timing belt and pulse motor. Controlling above two motors then it is able to obtain small creepage condition. Meanwhile, coefficient of friction is calculated from normal force, which is supplied by a spring, and friction force measured by load cells. At first, we have measured coefficient of friction on real wheels under non-dismantling condition. Then, we have obtained rough characteristics of creep force. Finally, we have captured the effect of lubricant on coefficient of friction.

平成17年9月発行した"自動車技術者のためのビークルダイナミクス"を主な理由として、このたび交通物流部門業績賞を受賞しますことを誠に光栄と感じております。年初に選考委員会の推薦を受けて大変戸惑いを覚え、「発行後半年足らずで読者の評価も未だ定まっていないので」と一度は辞退したのですが、もしも読者の中に「この程度でも受賞できる」と励みに思う方が在るならば、意義無いことでもないと自分なりの受賞の理由を見つけて、委員会の再度のご意向に応えることにしました。自動車の研究開発実務から離れて10数年経て今は最新技術について論じることは出来ないので、拙著に盛り込めなかった事、推敲不十分で説明不足な項、あえて行った普遍化もされてない提案、あるいは現状の問題点など、自分の研究経過も紹介しながら、お話をしてみようと思います。脈絡のない断片的な話の中からでも何かを感じて頂けるならば、もしも読者の方々に何かのヒントにして頂けるならば幸いです。

首都圏郊外では、郊外鉄道は都心までのアクセス手段として充実したサービスを提供しており、高い交通機関分担率を示しているが、日中の地域内交通としては必ずしも高くない。本研究では、日中の地域内交通としての鉄道利用の顕在化を妨げている要因を明らかにすることを目的として、東急田園都市線沿線の郊外地域を対象にアンケート調査を実施した。調査結果より、アクセス交通の問題を含む「総移動時間の長さ」、「鉄道の移動性の低さ」が地域内交通としての鉄道利用の顕在化を妨げている大きな要因であることが明らかになった。

In order to investigate the effect of a hybrid system applied to rolling stock, it was evaluated to compare the fuel consumption of the existing confidential diesel railcars and diesel railcars of series and parallel hybrid systems with various batteries by running simulation. The hybrid railcars are powered by both diesel engines and electric batteries which can be stored the braking energy. Result of simulations, it was found that the maximum effect of fuel consumotion is 26% with Ni-MH battery in parallel hybrid system in main line operation at Takayama line and 33% in local line operation at Taketoyo line.

In the Keihanna line of Kintetsu Corporation opened for service this spring, we have developed and introduced a remote monitoring and control system for automatic fare collection equipment and other station equipment such as elevators, escalators etc., in order to reduce railway station duties. This system uses the network camera product and is applying the VoIP technology, and data streams of video, voice and control are integrated in digital form and transmitted on the IP network, so the system can be simply constructed. And the consoles are placed at two centers and six stations, so remote operation is available from every station, as well as from center.
