This study discusses the communication between autonomous robots and humans through the development of a robot which has an emotion model. The model refers to the internal secretion system of humans and it has four kinds of the hormone parameters to use to adjust various internal conditions such as motor output, cooling' fan output and sensor gain. We surveyed 126 visitors at '97 International Robot Exhibition held in Tokyo (Oct. 1997) in order to exaluate psychological impressions of the robot. As the result, the human friendliness of the robot was confirmed and some factors concerning with the human robot emotional communication were discovered.

<p>Surface texturing is attracting much attention especially in the tribology field because for the effect improving the lubrication properties. However, most of studies on surface texturing conduced in the past focused the lubrication properties under a static load, and there are almost no papers on the dynamic characteristics of textured surfaces under a squeezing condition. From these backgrounds, the purpose of this research is to grasp the oil film behaviour on the textured surface under vertical vibration that simulates repeating squeeze motion. The oil film behavior under squeezing motion was observed by means of optical interferometry with two-color light. The experiment showed that the oil film shape in the contact circle under squeezing motion changed due to the existence of microdimples. Particularly, when the glass surface with 500 nm-depth microdimples was used, the oil film became thicker and the contact area became smaller than that when the non-textured surface was used.</p>

We present a practical method of numerical analysis for optimization problems of domains in which natural vibration problems of linear elastic bodies are defined. In this paper, we apply the traction method that was proposed as a solution to the domain optimization problems to elliptic boundary value problems. The treated problems are those which determine the domain that maximizes a specified vibration eigen value, which is defined by the squared natural frequency, and that moves several specified vibration eigen values in a specified direction. Using the Lagrange multiplier method, we obtain the shape gradient functions for these domain optimization problems from the optimality criteria. We show the successful resolution of the problems of beamlike plates clamped at one end and at both ends.

<p>In the present study aims to build the player model of Hanafuda. Not performed substantially research in Hanafuda, the optimal player model is not clear. So, a player model that prioritizes the "interesting" is a thing to explore what kind of thing. The method evaluates the field using the evaluation value, determines the card cutting based on the evaluation value. Create a player model using this technique, to evaluate by simulation experiments. The results of the experiment, it is a rudimentary but think as a model to create a "interesting" could be created.</p>

The variation of the noise metrics of a group of sound sources due to its movement at a constant velocity along a straight track is discussed in the paper. When sound sources move, frequency and amplitude modulation is observed in the radiated sound field. The frequency and amplitude increase when sound sources are approaching and decrease when going away. We found that when frequency and amplitude modulation were considered, the calculated noise levels LAmax, LASmax, LAeq,T became larger than the calculated levels without their consideration. The difference of the calculated levels between the cases increased with respect to the sound source velocity. This difference was independent of distance between the track and the receiving point. Approximating discrete sound sources in line by a finite line source would underestimate the noise level. The level of this underestimation would increase by decreasing source division. The underestimated level was calculated for sources with reference noise spectrum for rolling stocks with a constant sound power level as we focused on the influence of frequency and amplitude modulation on the radiated sound field. The underestimated level was large for LAmax and LASmax compared with LAeq,T. The difference of the calculated levels between the cases decreased monotonically with respect to the source frequency.

An increase or decrease of the hammer head mechanical energy was caused by an accumulation of the positive or negative handle power which was the product of wire tensile force and handle velocity in the wire length direction. During single support phase a decrease of the wire tensile force was reduced by a fictitious force caused by handle relative pulling acceleration and relative leading velocity to thrower's center of mass (C.M.). Ground reaction force was resulted from maintaining balance with wire tensile force, hammer head centrifugal force, hammer handle coriolis force, and so on under rotational coordinate system. During double support phase handle relative pushing acceleration and relative drawing velocity to thrower's C.M. caused a fictitious force which make balance with the addition of wire tensile force and hammer head rotational force in the wire length direction and with hammer head rotational force in the horizontal direction perpendicular to wire, so that thrower pushed the ground on his/her feet.

Dynamics-based force sensor using accelerometers which measures forces and joint torques has been developed. In this study we have applied this method to hammer throw training aid integrating small sensors, signal processing, short-range wireless transmission, data-logger and biofeedback training system. The purpose of this study was to establish methods for the measuring of rotational movement and the biofeedback training system for hammer throwers. Microelectromechanical systems accelerometers were chosen as the sensor platform capable of because they are noninvasive miniaturized devices and have wide bandwidth. In this system, a wireless data-logger was developed as a wearable device to replace cables and reduce constraint caused by wearing cables. The transmitted data were given as biofeedback information over a speaker through signal processing and voltage to frequency conversion.

The motions of a hammer are commonly regarded as a circular movement which a hammer undergoes around a turning human body. During each turn the hammer rises up toward the high point of the trajectory and passes through the low point. Our interest in this study was to understand the energy transfer mechanism through whole body into the hammer. To elucidate the mechanism novel dynamic equations was derived.

In this study, new models on the new droplet evaporation taking account of the droplet surface temperature related to the modified Spalding model, on the ambient temperature and the mass fraction at the infinite-point was proposed and incorporated into KIVA-II code. These models were compared and reviewed with the droplet evaporation model of KIVA-II original code in relation to the standard Spalding model. As a results, it is found that the calculated results of droplet evaporation by new model agree well with actual phenomena.
